Our guesthouse is situated on an old Finnish homestead, on the traditional lands of the Anishinabek and Mississauga Nations. The property is a mix of field, wetland, small stream and forest, along with our active organic vegetable market garden. While the guesthouse is its own private accommodation, we live and work on the same property. We run Missing Link Adventures, focused on providing cycling retreats and farm fresh meal packages. For short-term rentals, we have options for purchasing farm fresh veggies or prepared dishes during the farm season. We are close to Doe Lake and the Magnetawan River system, where you can launch a boat, paddle and fish, and there are two public beaches suitable for small children. Other possible day trips could include a visit to Screaming Heads (walking trails & disc golf course) and The Crystal Cave, an amazing geological museum and crystal shop with other local artisans. Come experience winter! Get cozy in the quiet guesthouse on our farm. With on-site snowshoe and fat bike trails, a hill for tobogganing and an outdoor fire pit, there is non-stop fun in the winter! We are only 35 minutes from the popular skate trail and groomed cross country ski trails at Arrowhead Provincial Park. In spring, summer or fall, discover the fantastic road cycling routes in the area, swim at nearby beaches, walk our farm trails or simply use our space to relax, watch the birds and savour some quiet time on a large screened-in porch! Please note that while you have the guesthouse to yourself, the guesthouse is on our farm, and we share the property. It is a quiet place for people to connect with the outdoors and enjoy each others' company. If you are looking for a place to have a loud gathering, play loud music and do a lot of drinking, this is not the right place for you. We are a working farm, and sound travels very easily throughout the property and to our neighbours. Our guesthouse looks out over a field that used to be grazed by cattle and is now succeeding into a meadow with patches of trees. You can also see our upper field and forest from the upstairs windows. Guests are welcome to use our on-site trails which travel through a wetland with a stream, our organic market garden and a mature maple bush. The farm is a series of rolling ravines and flat plateaus, and the trails range from flat to steeper inclines. The guesthouse is a brand new accommodation that we've built over the last three years. It was built under commercial building code, with adherence to strict fire safety regulations. We have put a lot of effort into finishing the building to provide guests with a clean, open and comfortable space. We used sustainable practices and materials wherever possible to make the building as eco-friendly as we could, such as using non-toxic paints and stains, re-purposing furniture and reusing older items. Inside the entrance, there are stairs that lead up to three bedrooms and two bathrooms. Two bedrooms are the same, each with one double/single bunk and one single/single bunk. Each room can sleep five people. The bunk beds are handmade for adults and are very solid. The third bedroom has a queen bed and sleeps two. The mattresses are certified organic, and all bedding is sustainably produced. There are two bathrooms, one smaller and one larger. Each has a shower, sink and toilet. There is a small sitting nook at the top of the stairs with a beautiful view outside. A perfect place to read! There is a washer and dryer in the large bathroom for use at an extra cost. If you need to use the laundry, please ask in advance, and we’ll get you set up. We will provide the laundry detergent. The kitchen, dining room and living room space are on the main floor and all in one space. You can make a great meal here! The kitchen serves as our commercial kitchen for the farm and for special events we host when we have no guests. We have a good assortment of pots and pans, along with other functional kitchen items like bakeware, measuring cups, spoons, graters, citrus juicer, etc. The stove is a gas top with an electric oven. Off the main area, there's a large screened-in porch that can be used in warmer weather. It’s a lovely place to be during hot days! There is a picnic table on the porch that sits 12 and Muskoka chairs for more relaxed sitting. The BBQ is right outside the porch, and the firepit is close by. For those of you cycling, we have bike racks outside, along with a bike wash station. We provide complimentary tea, fair trade/organic coffee and basic cooking supplies like salt, pepper, cooking oil and sugar, along with a few spices that have been grown and dried on-site. As we operate on a septic system, we also provide complimentary eco-friendly and septic friendly dish soap, hand soap, shampoo, conditioner and bodywash. We have a small selection of books to read and a few board games, along with crayons and pencil crayons. For spring/summer/fall visits, we are well connected to paved and gravel routes on quiet roads for cycling that can be accessed right from the door. Off-site, there are a number of spots for launching a canoe, kayak or SUP and there are a number of hiking trails and beaches or swim spots within varying distances in the Almaguin region. For winter visits, we are about 40 minutes to Arrowhead Park (groomed cross country ski trails, snowshoe trails and skate trail) or you can skip the crowds and use our on-site trails for snowshoeing and fat biking. We have a gently sloping tobogganing hill right outside the guesthouse, along with a firepit.
