Unplug at Branigan Farm, a 75-acre working creative homestead with a dirt road running through it. It sits in New Brunswick’s St. John River Valley, near Florenceville-Bristol — the “French Fry Capital of the World." It’s a quietly creative corner of New Brunswick: visit the Andrew and Laura McCain Art Gallery, walk or bike the NB Trail along the river, paddle the Saint John, wander Potato World and the restored Shogomoc railway station, or walk a covered bridge and a farm market. After dark, the skies out here are wonderfully clear for stargazing.Stafford’s Place is a cream canvas bell tent set on a raised wooden deck in a private clearing — “Deer Clearing” — on Branigan Farm, our 75-acre, off-grid creative homestead in the rolling forest hills of the St. John River Valley. It’s designed for two people who want to genuinely disconnect: no traffic, no screens humming, just woods, wind, and stars. (It can accommodate 3 people with advance notice. We will add an air mattress.)
Inside, it’s glamping, not camping. A proper queen bed made up with soft linens sits at the centre, with layered rugs across the floor, a wooden storage trunk, and a pair of folding lounge chairs for reading, writing, or playing cards.
There’s a little coffee-and-tea station in a vintage cabinet, a basket of poetry and a journal (this is a poet’s place, after all), usb-charged lamps, a battery lantern, and a fan for warm nights.
Out front, a fire pit and outdoor kitchen let you cook and linger in the open air, with a dedicated parking spot just steps away.
There’s even a private hot-water shower just a few meters away — yes, a real hot shower, off-grid.
It’s a creative place. Branigan Farm is being built as an off-grid arts and community centre, and Stafford’s Place is our first guest stay. Inspired by poet William Stafford, this glamping site includes a writing desk, journal, and William Stafford's books. Bring a notebook, a sketchpad, or just your quiet — the clearing has a way of opening people up.
Where you’ll sleep
One open canvas room with a comfortable queen bed and quality linens, layered rugs, and soft lamp lighting. Sleeps 2.
Guest access
The whole tent, deck, outdoor kitchen, and your private clearing are yours during your stay, plus your own parking spot. We encourage you to explore the land at Branigan Farm, pick berries, identify plants, and look for animal tracks. You are welcome to gather fallen wood for your camp fire and pick wildflowers to decorate your tent.
You will share the outhouse and shower with other guests, but they are both close by, private, and include everything you need.
Good to know before you book (off-grid living)
This is a true off-grid stay. Here’s the honest picture so you can decide if it’s your kind of getaway:
Washroom: a private composting toilet near the tent, an outdoor sink for handwashing, plus a private hot-water shower heated by an on-demand propane heater.
Drinking water: We provide 5 gallons of rainwater that has gone through a 4-part filtering process, including a UV filter. This is the same water your hosts drink daily. You are welcome to bring your own drinking water if you'd prefer. The shower water is for washing, not drinking.
Power: a solar battery power station for charging phones and running the induction cooktop, plus lantern lighting. No mains electricity. This is eco-glamping, after all.
Heating / season: This year, we’re open July-October. Nights can be cool; we provide extra blankets in the wooden chest at the foot of the bed.
Connectivity: Cell signal is spotty at Branigan Farm, and WiFi is only available upon request — part of the reason you want to visit is to switch off technology, but we understand that you might be working on a novel that needs research or mixing music that requires access to the cloud. Let us know if you need WiFi, and we’ll provide a Starlink mini for an additional $25.
Getting here: the last stretch is a gravel woods road left here by the lumber company that used to own this land. It’s a bit bumpy, but even small cars manage it without much trouble. Full directions sent after booking.
Pets: well-behaved dogs are warmly welcome. Please leash your dog when outside and pick up what they put down. This is to protect them from wildlife and for the comfort of other guests.

Firepit, private. We provide the fire pit and 75 acres of land where you're welcome to collect dried, fallen wood. Please check for fire bans, and ensure your fire is fully extinguished by tossing water on embers.
Toilet available
Composting toilet. The toilet is a few meters from the glamping site and includes a camp sink for handwashing.
Pets allowed
On leash. For the safety of your pet and for wildlife, please keep your dog leashed when outside the tent. Pick up their waste and place in the compost or garbage. Dogs are not allowed to roam freely at Branigan Farm.
Potable water available
Bottled water or jugs. Your glamping site includes 5 gallons of rainwater that has gone through a 4-stage filtration process, including a UV filter. This is the water your hosts drink daily. However, you are welcome to bring your own drinking water if you prefer.
Showers available
Hot water . The hot-water shower is a few meters away from your glamping site. It includes a private outdoor shower with a locking door, hooks to hang clothes and towels, body wash, shampoo, and conditioner.
Bins available
Compost bin, recycling bin, trash bin. Your glamping site includes a trash can inside the tent and a compost bucket with secure lid in your outdoor kitchen. Next to the bathhouse, you will find garbage and recycling barrels. Please note that you must not leave food or scented items unattended in your tent or at your site. This is bear country. Please lock them in your vehicle.
Cooking equipment present
Grill over firepit, private, stovetop or hot plate, cookware, cooking utensils, dishware, cutlery, basic seasoning and oils, sink or other dishwashing station. Your glamping site includes an outdoor kitchen with a cooler, sink, and water. Inside your tent, you'll find an induction hot plate, pans, cutlery, and dishware. Please do not cook inside your tent. (It's okay to brew coffee or tea inside.) The fire pit includes a foldable grill for wood-fired cooking.
Wifi available
We can provide access to Starlink for an additional charge of $25. Please ask after making the reservation.
Picnic table absent
Your site includes a large wooden spool that may serve as an outdoor table, but it's a bit too tall to be used as a picnic table.
Laundry absent
There is a laundromat about 25 minutes away.

Branigan Farm is 75-acres of mostly undeveloped off-grid land. There's no playground, but there are lots of opportunities to search for berries and mushrooms or to go birdwatching and forest bathing.
