Bryan’s land was a perfect getaway. Exactly what we were looking for. A place our dogs could have free range to run off leash and for us to have a good balance of being outdoors but knowing we were in our own private place to relax. We will definitely be back.

We had such a wonderful time exploring the property! It was a perfect distance for a nice get away from New Orleans. The host was friendly and helped answer any questions we had. We were pleasantly surprised by all the amenities in the train car. As an avid rail fan this really sold the experience. Our dogs had a blast wading through the creek and there were many opportunities to take a beautiful stroll around the land. We even saw a full sky of stars for the first time in ages. I was also grateful for the covered patio during a rainy night. We will definitely be recommending to friends and hope to be back one day. Thanks so much for having us!

Pleasant 2-day Getaway
The Choo Choo was perfect for our weekend getaway. A mix of rustic sheltering caboose properly outfitted with a substantial tin roofed covered deck and hot/cold outdoor shower that kept us civilized and clean (during a somewhat rainy weekend getaway). Loved the train ruins and lay of the property. The wildflowers were blooming and the birdsong was a varied delight. Private and peaceful. 100% would return to stay again and explore more. Bryan clearly communicated everything we needed for our stay and was courteous.

Fantastic weekend, we had so much fun. Loved that Bryan only has one group at a time, private camping. Clear creek to splash in. Lovely walks through the property. My son loved the old train cars. Our pups could be off leash, that ran and played themselves to exhaustion. We spent a lot of our time teaching our son wilderness skills and exploring. We will definitely go back, next time in warmer weather so we can spend more time in the creek.

Great amenities, beautiful property
The camping setup at the Choo Choo was exactly what my husband and I were looking for as we sought to "get away" for our anniversary. You can choose your experience, from primitive to almost cabin camping. Because our stay included a few thunderstorms, we decided to stay at the traincar, but opted to put up our tent on the covered porch. This kept us well protected from the rain, and we were able to prepare our meals on the propane grill on the porch. There is also a small charcoal grill if you'd rather. The boxcar was well fit out with a small kitchen, a larger sized mini fridge, sink with running hot and cold water, and various pots, pans, and utensils. Even a hot plate (didn't heat very high) and a slow cooker. The bathroom with flushable toilet, sink and door is inside the hallway. The entrance/bedroom is a rustic little space with an air mattress on a platform, fan, and a small window ac unit. There is also a small electric heater if you need, which we did. Two outdoor showers with hot water top off the amenity list. It was great fun showering with a view to the wetlands just beyond the site. We arrived at night so didn't really have the lay of the land before heading to bed. We were awakened by a loud metal-dragging sound from the woods. Bryan, who is a super host, assured me no one was on the property but us. The next day when we were able to explore, we found a deer feeder, which was likely dropping food on an automated schedule. Mystery solved.

Sooo cool
We got in after dark so it was a little hard to find. Come before the sun sets and the hosts directions are perfect; he emailed them to me. I had to call because I was lost and it was dark. Once arriving we were shocked how cool and big the place is. There was a mini fridge, a/c, toilet, great sitting porch with a grill, and so much more. Also drive into town and have lunch at Dinner Bell.

Despite coming back early due to rain, the Bogue Chitto Choo was a fun camping adventure for us, close enough to New Orleans for a weekend trip but far enough to still feel like a get-away. It's great that you get the whole place to yourself! We read the review of the folks who elected to sleep in a tent on the porch, rather than the cabin, and definitely agree. The cabin was nice to have for the bathroom & mini fridge (and outdoor showers were really nice!), but I definitely wouldn't want to try to sleep in there. If it's not raining, I recommend driving to the end of the road and pitching a tent at the last site, the one closest to the creek. Then just use the cabin as needed for the electricity/ plumbing. (If it's raining, pitching your tent on the covered porch works fine.) The nearby abandoned train cars were fun to explore, as was the creek & abandoned trails through the woods. Bring bug spray & rubber boots if you got 'em!

Had an amazing time at the camp! There was a ton of space on the property, we ended up being a big group and had room to set up as many tents as we needed. We had planned to explore the area but ended up spending all day playing in the creek. It's a great spot for a relaxing soak or a little tubing, and it was shallow enough my 2 year old nephew could play in it Bryan was great, answered all of our questions and was very flexible. We definitely plan on coming back here!

Awesome spot!
The property is unique and fun to explore! We prefer primitive camping, so chose a spot near the old railroad bridge toward the back. There is power, hot water, and ac/heat at the neat little boxcar If roughing it isn’t for you. We loved finding fossils in the creek, reading under the trees, cooking on the camp fire, and walking through the trails. Will definitely be back!

Perfect camping weekend away!
We wanted to get out of town for a quick trip (only a 2 hour drive from New Orleans) and this was the perfect place. We got in after dark Friday night, so having the train car was convenient for a working restroom, fridge, electricity, and lit porch. We set up the tent on the porch the first night, then moved it closer to the stream for the second night. A peaceful visit and you get the place to yourself. Bryan is super helpful to send an email with all that you need to know beforehand. Our dog had a blast exploring the stream and wandering free. We have already told our friends and plan to bring them along next time!

BogueChitto ChooChoo Feb. 2021 trip
We stayed at Bogue Chitto Choo Choo for 2 nights and had a great time. There was enough space for 2 adults, 2 4 year olds and 2 big dogs. Had running water - hot & cold. Showers outside and sink and commode inside. There was also the kitchen with enough space to cook (which I did), has a small fridge (so grateful for this). There was so much yard space for the kids and dogs to venture out. Made s’mores by the fire pit outside and cooked a pizza on the grill that was there. We all walked down by the beautiful, clear water river - very easy to access - lots of added space to camp out with tents or rvs there. I saw electrical hookups and has running tap water. Only thing that we did wrong was stayed too short of a time. Overall we had a great fun time and look forward to going back. One of our friends is interested in going there to camp:)

My 2 kids, dog and I had a great time! Played in the creek, hiked around, checked out the old train cars, and were luckily saved from the all day rain under the huge deck's roof. It's definitely unique and beautiful and would be super interesting to find out more about the history of the place!

Such a Unique Hidden Gem!
We absolutely LOVED camping here! It was close to civilization but yet so so far away. It was so secluded and private feeling! The box car super comfy yet rustic. We LOVED the porch and camp fire area. Honestly the property was way cooler than we ever expected. We sprayed with spray and burned some torches to keep bugs away just in case but were pleasantly surprised at the lack of mosquitoes by the property since it is in the woods near water. We over packed expecting it to be bear bones but it really had everything we could have needed in the kitchen and around the property. We slept both in tents and a night in the box car for the box car for the experience. Also new update is that there are 2 outdoor showers WITH HOT WATER! That was super convenient and so nice to have! The kids got such excitement out of the outdoor showers! In fact, they loved the whole property. The older kids loved exploring into the woods and coming across the bathhouse in the dark. They thought it felt cool and spooky! The clear creek in the woods was spectacular. I’ve never seen water in nature that clear. Do wear hard bottom water shoes though cause there are lots of river rocks. I can go on forever about how much I loved this place! We will 1000% be back! It was worth the drive. Can’t wait to go back in the fall with a larger group. Our new favorite camp spot!!! P.S.- I know I used lots of exclamation points but that’s how much we loved it!!! 😆 Also the hose is super nice and helpful! Bryan thanks so much for letting us explore your unique little hidden gem of a property!

Perfect getaway for a hot day
Our family had THE BEST time at the Bogue Chitto Choo Choo!! Rustic, yes, but that's what we were looking for. Air mattress, camp chairs, mini fridge, fans all provided in the cabin. Even a small cooking range, but you have to bring your own kitchenware. The option of air conditioning was a life saver having a one-year-old along for the ride. Had it been just us adults I would have opted for one of the awesome cliff-side camp sites or just camped out next to the beautiful, clear, cold creek! There really are a lot of options here, and it was sooo nice to know we were the only campers on the grounds. It was like having your own personal park to explore. HIGHLY recommend! Can't wait to go back, maybe with a couple of friends next time. Bryan was a great host and made everything super simple to check in complete with pictures to make finding the place easy!

BCCC Family Camping
Our stay at the BCCC was wonderful. It started with us being pleasantly surprised by inside of the boxcar - there was a double sized air mattress blown up and a twin sized raised sleeping platform. Since it was August, we decided to sleep inside rather than pitching the tent. My husband and I slept put linens we brought on the double mattress and inflated a twin we brought for my son for the sleeping platform. Unfortunately, that ended up not working long term for us because my child was spooked by sleeping in the boxcar due to bugs, etc. So we ended up pitching tent which I shared with my son for the last four nights of our stay. My husband happily slept all nights inside the boxcar and the AC. I ran an extension cord from outlet on porch to tent for the fan I brought from home, and it was surprisingly comfortable for sleeping overnight. There was a firering at the boxcar that we used for cooking in addition to the hotplate. The mini fridge and cupboard space were also great because I was able to set up canned goods on shelves, thin out the food in the ice chest and leave dry goods like bread in the tote (protected from bugs). The result was not having to dig around for supplies during the trip. We all could find our gear which cut down on the "Mom, where is ......" questions. The porch of boxcar is covered with a boxfan installed near ceiling for circulation. It also has chairs and large table. I was so happy with the porch and didn't bother unpacking the folding table I brought from home. Last comments on the boxcar itself is there is a hose which we used for super cold but effective showers. The property itself was amazing. As previous reviewers shared, there is poison ivy on the property, so make sure to bring closed toes shoes. There are several additional campsites and access to the stream across a footbridge. So, you can either camp at boxcar itself like we did or go deeper into woods and have a more primitive experience. The sites past the footbridge do have some trash issues from prior campers and the defunct kayak business. However, the kayak business trash piles are all together by an abandoned bathhouse, so the entire property isn't trashed. I just don't want to give impression of pristine property. And make sure to keep eye on children and animals if they wander toward the abandoned bathhouse. Now to the best part of the trip - the stream. My husband at first despaired of finding it clear as promised. He thought the boggy water near the boxcar was the stream, but that is NOT the case. We found the stream the first time by following the path over the footbridge till it ends at the trestle bridge. There is a clear footpath down the hill to the stream. The next day, my husband found a shortcut to the stream by the bathhouse. It isn't as clear and is hard to explain, but saved us time getting to our desired spot on stream. There is what looks like a road by the bathhouse on the right. Then as you stand where that road connects to the path, your can look into woods and see a tiny bridge which is about two feet long. Go across small bridge, then go straight ahead and follow sound of creek. This shortcut allowed us to not navigate the area by the trestle bridge which were hard to wade with a kid, dog and supplies. Once at the stream, we followed it down to find our favorite beach area. I will post pictures. It had a lovely combination of a rippled current, a few deeper pools for splashing, sandy areas and lots of pebbles for rock and fossil hunting. We hung up our hammock and set up camp chairs to relax. Make sure to wear river shoes, not water sandals. I thought water sandals would suffice, but the rocks are small and wading becomes very annoying when rocks get stuck in the sandal. And the water is incredibly cold. My dog LOVES the water so after the first day at stream, we had to bring leash to enforce warm up periods for her. We also brought bucket, goggles and sifter for my son. And yes, the water is clear enough for the goggles. He had an absolute blast. He celebrated his birthday while we were at the BCCC and said it was the best birthday ever. For perspective, the BCCC beat out the beach last year. We thought because of COVID, our summer 2020 vacation would be ruined, but BCCC saved it and we are all so incredibly grateful.

Outdoors Oasis at the Choo Choo
This was the coolest experience for my little family. My hubby and I brought our two little girls and our dog to get away before school starts back. The train car is so unique and earthy. There were plenty of wall outlets, supplies, and a kitchen and bathroom sink with hot water. The bathroom has a toilet as well. There is no shower, but my girls got nice warm baths in the kitchen sink. The creek was EPIC. The water was beautiful and clear and this is where we spent most of our time. It was raining the whole time, which I thought made it extra beautiful. The photographs we took at the bridge were amazing. We cooked each night on the porch which was so fun. The porch is large and very relaxing. The whole place was secluded behind a gate. You are the only ones there and you have the trails and wilderness all to yourselves. The host, Bryan, was even kind enough to share a story about the history of the property with us. There is a pretty creepy ghost story to accompany the Bogue Chitto Choo Choo experience if you like spooky stuff as much as we do!

Great spot!
Great spot, lots of fun stuff to explore. The creek is clear and cool and nice to wade around in. Bryan, the host was super friendly and helpful. The boxcar is very rustic but has a toilet, sinks, a mini fridge, and electric which is nice. The bridge accessing most of the campsites and the creek is a bit narrow with no rail, but there is plenty of place to set up tents on the boxcar side if you don't want to cart your stuff over it. Right now you have to walk your stuff down from the gate because the road is a mess. They are working on fixing it. The paths are not all that clear, but it's easy to find your way around. We brought our two dogs and had a blast! Lastly there is quite a bit of poison ivy around, even on the paths so be mindful where you step.

The host Bryan was very nice and quickly responds to all questions and goes above and beyond to provide the best experience possible. He arranged last minute for his outfitter Chad to shuttle us kayaking and provided the kayaks. Chad was awesome and even went out the way to accommodate us according to our skill level (dropped us at a spot on the river to fit our needs). The property is beautiful and the secluded creek that ypu have private access to was very relaxing and so beautiful.

Very nice private camp
Bogue Chitto is a private camp built on the bones of a larger campground that went out of business about a decade ago. The camp sites have amazing (really amazing) drainage. We were there during a 3 hour thunderstorm and not a single tent was flooded or even wet on the inside. Everything listed in the amenities is accurate, and the location is really nice and private. This is a good spot for a getaway for the family, or a group of friends, and there is a well-stocked gas station within walking distance in case you forget anything. The creek area is really magical — you're likely to find tons of fossils of shells, honeycomb and flowers if you dig through the rocks, and even yellow ochre (makes great body paint).

Quirky and fun campground!
This campsite was great! We came here because we were looking for a place to camp outside that would also have a rain plan for the potential thunderstorms of the weekend. Brian gave us the run of the place, and let us set up camp under the big porch by the abandoned train depot. We fit three tents and our kitchen and hangout area under the porch and was able to stay dry and have fun while the storm pounded down. Brian was super kind and helpful the whole weekend. There are some sweet hiking trails through the campgrounds which aren't entirely cleared, and a beautiful creek and creek-bank that are perfect for a private, shady afternoon splash. Will definitely come back here. There is quite a lot of poison ivy here so be careful!

We camped here for two nights with two kids and a dog. It was great! It’s EXACTLY what Hipcamp does best: find unique experiences. The setting is gorgeous. The history and surroundings are interesting. Those looking for spooks will be creeped out by the haunted train car and the caves where a bank robber hid money before he died. Bryan and his son were so helpful but also gave us plenty of privacy. Things to help future campers: you will not park next to your site. There is a bit of a walk so be prepared to camp light or make a few trips. We had a hard time building a fire with the wood in the area. It might be our lack of skill, but we wished we had brought firewood. We also needed tic repellent. We pulled tics off everyone by the end.

Super easy to get to but also very private. I loved the Bogue Chitto Choo Choo and can’t wait to return! The river is gorgeous and fun to follow along. The water is as clear as can be. Plenty of room to camp with multiple options. I met the owner, Bryan at my arrival and he was very helpful and friendly. He said he could arrange a shuttle for the Bogue Chitto River and kayak, canoe, or tube. I plan to do that next trip very soon!
