The Retreat Campsites are situated on land owned by the Red Spirit Retreat Center. The beautiful wooded land is perfect for walking in. The stars are like brilliant diamonds, and in mid June the fireflies float up from the prairie into the trees by the hundreds. It is pretty quiet except for the birds and the bullfrogs and your own crackling campfire. In the spring the fruit trees can be seen blooming across the fields. Straw is grown on the neighbor's farm and cut and baled midsummer. The farm buildings are off in the distance but have gleaming white buildings and silver silos. Guests may walk wherever they like on trails or bushwhack through the forests of the Red Spirit Retreat Center. Each campsite is unique and pretty private. While you may see other campers you probably can't hear them as they are about half a city block away through the trees. Staying at the Country Dome Home is an amazing experience. Located on a hill at the top of the prairie, the view of farms and forests is spectacular. To enjoy the view, the front window is 8 feet tall and 11 feet wide. The 12 foot ceiling enlarges the room tremendously. There is an awesome feeling of spaciousness. On a warm day 8 foot wide by 3 foot high screens can be opened up to let and with the screen door to let breezes blow through. The solar fan then pulls the heat right out of the roof. Outside there is a patio sail providing shade. A lovely dinner can be cooked on a propane griddle while watching the view. Refurbished Jordan Brown Tamiami table and chairs and a chaise lounge provide comfortable seating. Deck chairs are out on the front deck as well. Sitting around the campfire is a great way to end the day. About 9 pm hundreds or thousands of fireflies slowly make their way to the tops of the huge trees and the stars start to twinkle as the sun sets. The birds, crickets, and bullfrogs gradually quiet down, lulling you to sleep in the most comfortable bed in the world. You feel at one with nature.. Stay at the dome in the fall or early spring and the wood stove will keep you toasty warm on chilly nights. Three rustic campsites with their own personalities are also on the land but hidden by trees. The Frog Pond Campsite is a in a sylvan glade next to the pond and creek, with parking immediately next to the campsite. The Edges and Deep Forest Campsites are both larger campsites that are located inside the forest near the Prairie. These sites are separated far enough apart to allow for a very private feeling. Each campsite has parking space very close by. All campsites have their own private composting toilets, fire pits, one bundle of wood, sanitary spray, toilet paper, and at least three gallons of water. At the Deer Blind more wood is available at the Deer Blind for $10 per bundle. There are two yoga mats, frisbees, bubbles, and a corn hole game for borrowing. We hope that our guests have a truly beautiful, quiet, and relaxing stay.

Deep Forest Campsite
Nice view and quiet
Overall it was a nice experience, but the other sites were closer than I expected. The firewood was great for cooking, but not a long sustaining fire. Just a heads up. It would be a better site in warmer weather.

Deep Forest Getaway
I had a great time at the Deep Forest site!! It’s not far off of the main road and past a few homes, close enough to feel safe and far enough away for privacy. This was my first time camping alone and I felt very secure here. Also really appreciated the on-site pop up bathroom and table. I would definitely come back!! I found a deli called the Farmhouse deli & pantry about 10 minutes away on the way to the Saugatuck Dunes, they have amazing sandwiches and are very friendly, I had to go twice. I also ordered a cherry pie from Karen and it was delicious! She and Sandra were very responsive to all of my questions! Thank you for allowing me to stay, it was the perfect getaway to relax. The site is near a few others on the same property but I think I was the only one there because I didn’t see or hear anyone else.

The Edges
Dog and Dunes
We had a great time during our stay at The Edges! No one else booked the weekend so we had lots of space and privacy to relax. It's a lovely little site not too far from the Saugatuck Dunes. It was much better than the state campground - a personal self composting toilet, lovely views of the stars, my dog happily being off leash, plenty of firewood for a great weekend. It was just what we needed.

The Frog Pond Campsite
Decent, cozy site
Not as private I as had hoped…. Even with none of the other campsites occupied. Would not recommend the frog pond site, but the other sites seemed slightly more private ( and more complicated to get to). A little too far from Douglas and Saugatuck, my favorites, so I spent too much time driving. Also because of the lack of rainfall, the pond was not a pond, rather it was a mucky hole so my frog-hunting (never catching) dog was disappointed. My host was very accommodating- allowing me to come a day earlier and refunded my pie purchase when they weren’t available.

The Frog Pond Campsite
We loved lots of things about Sandra's, like the fact that it's back in the woods, just minutes away from lake Michigan and South Haven ( our favorite town in Michigan, so far). It's peaceful, clean and open. Just gotta watch out for poison ivy. She makes sure that there is potable water at each site, which we find to be very useful. We give it a 9 out of 10 stars for primitive camping.

Deep Forest Campsite
The Deep Forest campsite is nicely tucked away with one other campsite (the Edges) within view. We liked that we could park the car so close to our campsite. The property is nice to explore a little bit and Fennville has lots of little hidden gems to see. The amenities (compost toilet, water with dish soap, table, fire pit) made our stay comfortable.

Great for last minute camping
Great location 15 minutes from Saugatuck and the dunes. Campsite was very tidy and well equipped. Main downside is that you can hear the noise from the road (cars) and the second campsite is fairly close so it's not as private as you'd think. All in all though great last minute getaway spot.

Great first time!
This was our first time with Hipcamp. Sandy was so welcoming and friendly. She was clear about directions and what to expect at the campsite. We never used a composting toilet or solar shower - it was an adventure that we found was fun! The site was fabulous - we couldn't hear or see our neighbors at night. During the day the Deep Forest camp was visible but far enough away for lots of privacy. The sky at night was amazing!

Deep Forest Campsite
Deep forest campsite was much more than I expected. A nice slice of peace, and tranquility. A wonderful place to camp with friends, family, or some needed alone time. Very spacious campsite with lots of room to spread out and explore. The tour with Sandra was very nice and informative. The solar shower was very refreshing, and the view across the field made it that much better. Would definately come again, and I will be recommending it to others.

Deep Forest Campsite
We had a great time here and particularly appreciated the water provided at the site! It was great having firewood available for purchase as well. Sandra gave us thorough directions to get to the site and pointed us toward the nearest beach. The stars in the prairie were absolutely incredible and the space was exactly the type of move secluded camping we were looking for. I would definitely come back to this spot.

Deep Forest Campsite
I had such a nice time at the deep forest campsite! It was so peaceful, in a quiet area with easy access to all Douglas/Saugatuck has to offer. The filled water jug & bundle of firewood were really nice to have included with the site as well. I was a little worried about driving back to the site since I drive an old sedan, but had no issues whatsoever! The dirt road back was really well maintained & didn't wash out at all with the rain we had during my stay.

The Edges
We had a great time staying at the edges. It's as described, not too many accoutrements but hey, you're camping. Great stargazing and fireflies in the field, lots of bird songs and a thick canopy in the forest. Enjoyed the fire pit with complimentary bundle of wood, and the solar shower was handy for a quick rinse. Great location, biking distance to a couple beaches, virtue cider and more. Sandy was easy to communicate with. Only thing worth noting is that the "deep forest" campsite is within eye/earshot so you aren't totally isolated but it's way more spacious than your typical state park campground.

Mother-daughter campout
Deep Forest site: Mom's favorite part: the wood thrush symphony resonating through the woods...acoustically perfect! My daughter's fav was the wild roses and their aroma Finally got the fire figured out on night #2. The new hammock was an unexpected delight. Hope you enjoy your stay.!

Loved the weekend we spent here! The ground remained firm despite the intense rain and the hospitality is unmatched! Only thing to mention is the lack of a picnic table - didn't affect our stay but plan ahead since you can't pull the car far back into the site. We recommend the pie :)

The Frog Pond Campsite
Accommodating host/ unexpected site
Sandra and the amenities provided were incredibly accommodating! However, I booked this site over a state park because I wanted to be secluded. This site is near other sites on the property, there is a bar (I think) near by that plays music loins enough to hear from the site, and you can still hear cars on the road. Also when we went part of the pond was dried up, so not quite the environment I was hoping for. Don’t get me wrong, this is still a wonderful place, but for half the price you can stay in the state park.

Deep Forest Campsite
We loved staying at the Deep Forest campsite for a couple of nights! It’s an easy walk in from the car, and the site was beautiful. Very easy to set up two tents with plenty of room. We heard a Whip-poor-will both evenings - truly amazing. Would recommend to anyone who likes a more private camping experience than big campsites. We also loved visiting Fennville - the restaurants were great!

The Frog Pond Campsite
Quiet nights + firefly lights
This was our second time staying at the Frog Pond + we had a great time. The frogs were in full evening song mode + the fireflies were nature’s fireworks. Other people were also staying on site, but you really wouldn’t haven know it. Super quiet + restful just like last time. Toilet, a water jug, and on-site firewood make camping here so easy we have no choice but to come back. Again! :)

Deep Forest Campsite
Great rustic deep woods feel.
Was an excellent camp site in the woods. Sandy was very friendly and a great hostess. Only suggestion is I wouldnt used the bathroom, it was a clean toilet and didnt stink. Just it was in a changing tent which was too low and narrow, cant stand up in it or your head will be hitting the top with the spiders and the door is up against you. This is only bad because the spiders will be on you. Better off to bring a shovel. Other than that it was amazing, a 5 gallon jug of drinking water was provided, a chord of wood to get you started was provided, and nature was amazing. Highly recommend to anyone and will for sure go back whenever i plan to camp in the area.

This was a great campsite. It was convenient to have a compost toilet and solar shower. The site is very well shaded and all you hear is birds calling and singing. Super serene! The entire place is so beautiful. I would definitely recommend this to anyone

The Frog Pond Campsite
Definitely visiting again!
My boyfriend and I stayed at The Frog Pond Campsite for a weekend away from Chicago and we had a wonderful time. Sandra communicated with me from start to finish and the trip was a complete success. The campsite is definitely large enough for two people. We had a giant 10-person tent and still had enough activity space. The pond is pretty stale but it was fun to watch the tadpoles, hear the bullfrogs, and see the turtles and chipmunks at play. The campsite is under some pretty dense foliage but we still had a decent amount of sunshine come through. The outhouse/bathroom is a little small but it worked for what we needed - though anyone with a fear of flying insects should be warned that they tend to get trapped up at the top so be prepared to sit or go outside. Sandra also has a few other campsites that are available and a little more secluded so we might try that next time. We also ordered one of the Happy Tart Pies from Karen and the strawberry rhubarb pie was DELICIOUS! We ate half of it between the two of us in the first night. (Don't judge us.)

Deep Forest Campsite
Perfect!
This is my third and actually my favorite HipCamp experience so far. The camp site is fairly private, spacious, and has ample shade. I appreciated the on-site composting toilet. Not having to walk far to go to the bathroom in privacy is a huge bonus! Only had to walk about 30 feet from our car to the tent spot. The site is somewhat near another campsite called The Prairie on this property (pretty sure that’s the name?). No one stayed at that campsite during our visit, but it was far enough away through the trees that we would have still felt fairly secluded even if someone were camping over there. The fire pit was sufficient, but do bring a grill cover if you want to cook over the fire though. There is a Meijer and Walmart 15 minutes away if you need anything. The campsite was mostly flat. There are a few other campsites closer to the entrance surrounding the pond as you drive into the property and we heard those campers partying at night in the distance, but otherwise didn’t see anyone else during our stay. I was torn between booking the Deep Forest site and the Frog Pond site initially, I’m personally glad I chose the Deep Forest site though. It’s both more open and more secluded. The property isn’t in a massive forest by any means, it’s a large-ish wooded area near farm land. This was totally sufficient for our needs though. We wanted to camp in peaceful nature with the option to drive to nearby attractions and this place fit the bill perfectly. In my opinion this place is so much better than the typical public campgrounds where campers are jam packed into sites with no privacy.
