The property is an old homestead recently reclaimed and being brought back to life after many years abandoned. Early 1800s Bulgarian immigrants started a little community here called Stein. The old railroad used to pass through and there are alot of artifacts scattered throughout the property. We are in the process of cleaning up the old cabin built in late 1800s suprisingly still standing. The hardwood forest has a creek running through that is virtually untouched and home to wildlife of all kinds. Birds and wildlife of all kinds have a home here and no hunting allowed. Some trails have been cut and there are some natural trails for exploring the property through the hardwoods and campers are welcome to make new ones. A spring fed pond is great for fishing or just relaxing under the majestic live oaks. If Mushroom foraging is your thing you are in luck after a nice rain. This place had the best of southeast Louisiana and truly is a hidden gem. We are still in the clearing process so there are alot of projects going on but we definitely have some cool spots to pitch a tent. Host is on property in shipping container and willing to make accommodations as needed as we have electricity but are pretty much off the grid.. do not have an outdoor bathroom but could set something up with little effort. Have running water for solar shower or creek bath if you'd rather. Since we are still rebuilding there are some piles of lumber and things that may be unsafe for small children and animals. I have 2 dogs on the property with me but are fenced and friendly. If you have any questions just ask!

Homestead at Opal Springs

My 10 year old and I had a great time here. Ashley was so helpful and generous. It was nice knowing her house was right there in case of an emergency, but we still felt very secluded. We camped at the site by the creek, which is close enough for her to run a hose and extension cord. Next time I’d like to camp by the pond, which is long and narrow and lined with beautiful oaks.

Excellent secluded campsite

Ashley was super friendly and made sure everything was ready at the site when I arrived. If you're looking for a nice rustic campsite this is an excellent one! Nice little stream nearby and a fire pit too.

Real raw camping. Beautiful creek. Hammocks we’re the perfect bed for me and my friends here. Ashley is an incredible host. I can see myself coming back for seconds!

Camping with Wife

Ashley was very hospitable and interested in showing us her historical property. There are plenty of places you could choose to set up. She provided a tucked away campsite in a densely shaded canopy around OLD holly trees and brambly tall bushes. She also provided a nice set up with Christmas lights, prep table, tarp, fire pit, fire poker, filtered water, an outhouse situation, and electricity if you need it. We would mostly camp there during the evening and do day adventures to nearby spots like “Bogue Chitto State park” or “Red Bluff”. Her description is accurate so do read it in entirety. I’d agree that her property is indeed a work in progress but is of no inconvenience to a camper. Her property also has its share wildlife, expect: spiders, geese, cows in the distance, and little rustling of small creatures at night. If your into native Louisiana plants and trees this place has some interesting specimens she could tell you more about! I felt safe, and slept easy with the set up I had. Looking forward to going back once there are more trails carved out and some of her projects are fully fleshed out.

A wonderful secluded beauty 🌞🌿

We had a wonderful time! We picked a very secluded area by the creek and loved the scenery, especially the greenery overhead. Owner was the sweetest, we ended up forgetting forks and she didn’t hesitate to let us borrow some of hers! This land has unlimited potential and she plans on upgrading a lot of things, so this place will only get better. Make sure you don’t forget the bug spray though! Saved our lives 😂

Peaceful, secluded, and pleasant.

Had a great time tent camping at the homestead. The creek was absolutely beautiful and the site was serene. I didn't see another person the entire time I was there. Very scenic and amazing spot that you definitely will enjoy. Ashley was completely accommodating and made my stay a delight.

Ashley, I really enjoyed my stay at your campsite. The area was beautiful. Camping beside the creek with only crickets and frogs as my only neighbors was relaxing. I also enjoyed your personal tour and the history of the little community of immigrants that once lived there.
