As all the land here is born of lava, many moons ago this land began to host plants and critters. Long after, it was sculpted and a number of families and farmers have contributed to what we have today. An abundance of fruit and vegetables within sight of the ocean. Peaceful breezes and warming sun make for unparalleled tranquility. Today the land still gives back to its visitors. Come recharge.

Colin, his wife, and dogs were all amazing hosts! They recommended a great nearby coffee tour to us, which our whole group went to and enjoyed. The Hipcamp itself is on beautiful land and we got a great view of the stars at night. It has a port-a-potty and that’s pretty much it. I would definitely recommend Colin’s Hipcamp!

We stayed one night in a campervan. The farm was very nice and peaceful. Colin the host was helpful and greeted us for a late check-in. The temperature was cool at the elevation of the farm which was nice for sleeping. The location is fairly close to Kona.

Although we did not come across Jim, we did find the campsite and it was very pleasant. Road up is challenging, so ensure you don’t be like Jim and remember to go slow. The tortoise always wins the race. Colin’s dry wit was welcoming and Sally was super helpful and kind.

Colin is just just a salt of the earth kinda guy! Thanks for making us feel so welcome! We loved our stay on his lush farm - the driveway is just part of the experience. The views of the moon and stars are unreal! Follow his instructions and you’ll have a great time.

Great spot to camp! Get earplugs if you like to sleep while it is silent, because there are a lot of frogs who make noise.

Take the Farm Tour!
The property is in a rural agricultural area south of Kona town. At night the sound of the jungle is a full symphony of biodiversity floral aroma of the tropical blossoms and fruit trees. It was not hard to find, the directions were very clear. Sometimes at night, it was hard to find the road from the main highway, so be sure to signal in advance and slow down. The farm tour was a great thing to appreciate where you are, also you'll get great food recommendations nearby, I did not regret ordering based on the recommendation. Take the tour and ask where to get the best Loco Moco nearby.

Rustic campsite-Sky view amazing
The road to get there is very bumpy and a 4WD is a must. Not to drive in the darkness. No water view at all and only service is a dry toilet. It’s a rustic camp site with an amazing sky view.

We had a great time camping on the Avocado farm! Great view of the water with amazing sunset! Great location for exploring the Kona area including Captain Cook and Two Step! The Southern Point and Green sand beach was not far either! The hosts were very helpful and friendly! We had a blast and would highly recommend!

Waste of time
I wish we'd picked somewhere else to stay. The road in was very long and rough. The site itself wasn't level and was very close to a large group who partied late into the night. Despite confirming our time of arrival and type of accommodation multiple times ahead of the stay, Colon seemed annoyed and surprised by our on-time arrival.

Beautiful campsite
Beautiful site, up on a hill and very close to great snorkelling spots. Difficult drive up the hill to get there, limited amenities and i access to water only downsides. Colin had great communication and welcomed us upon arrival to the site, would stay again next time but be sure to take all the drinking water you need and be mindful of no showers.

Colin's tent site was secluded and beautiful! Great place to pitch a tent for the night with privacy and peace. It's very close to the Pu'uhonua O Haunaunau National Historic site and beach. The road getting there is a bit rough (especially since we got "upgraded" to a mustang convertible) so I would recommend getting a car with some clearance.

Colin is a very welcoming and kind host. His farm is nestled on a slope of lush farmland. Driving up to the campsite is amazing, with incredible views of both plants and sea. He brought me a cup of coffee in the morning and provided great suggestions of must-see things in the area. Highly recommend!

Colin’s land was a great tucked away spot to camp at. He was super helpful and friendly. Great for both rent and car top camping. The nature sounds at night were so peaceful. The road up the the site is really bumpy but easy with 4WD

Colin was so welcoming. It was lovely camping in the orchard. There was some toilets (chock the door open if it’s quiet) and an awning if it rains. Colin is a cool guy.

Pretty, but bumpy ride.
Colin is great and the farm is a beautiful and pleasant place to set up camp. I camped in a hammock and had plenty of location choices. As other reviews note, the only problem is the road/driveway. I don't recommend driving it at night, and it's nearly impassible if you have a moped or a car with a low bottom. Expect to drive about 5mph for about 45 min and give your shocks a constant workout. On the plus side, the farms lining the road are gorgeous and most have signs (so you don't accidentally take the wrong one).

Meh.
The camp was nothing more than a parking place for the night. When we arrived there was no indication of where we should go. Our campervan bottomed out multiple times on the way up the mile-long bumpy road and also when driving around to figure out where we should camp. Grass was high and it rained a ton, so very wet. As advertised, there was nothing but a porta-potty (they were clean!). We met Susan in the morning as we were leaving, and she was kind enough to suggest some breakfast spots. We followed her down the bumpy road and she had several tricks to avoid bottoming out! There are much more accommodating HipCamps on the island. The site was quiet and the bird sounds were wonderful. No water view at all.

Overall really nice experience !!
Overall had a great experience! We had booked the tour and had a nice morning walk around the property seeing different trees and other plants. Felt a little pricy considering limited amenities, but everything was as described when booking. Location was in a very private area, high up the mountain side giving a beautiful night sky! Hosts were super friendly and weren’t joking about the rain!

Very private and quiet
It was a beautiful farm. It’s in a very remote location. My vehicle did get stuck however the owner was very very understanding and even came and helped me and my kids. My two kids had a blast even with the little hickup. Please make sure you are in a vehicle higher than 10 inches above the ground. Not a lower van as I was in.

Camping in a jungle orchard
Tent camping here was great - the large awning covering the campsite was an unexpected bonus. It is hard to find; but, reports of the road being a challenge are overblown; we navigated it in a normal rental car without problems. Colin and his wife were super communicative, responsive, and helpful. They met us when we arrived and walked us to our site. They also gave some good tips on things to do and where to eat in the area. It was a delight staying at their remote orchard high on the slopes above Captain Cook. The cacophony of coqui frogs lulled us to sleep magically. As noted in other reviews, the site is rustic, ground isn't perfectly flat (slight slope), and the site is a bit rocky. Regardless, we slept comfortably. When camping in Hawaii it's a good idea to travel with grass mats or some other ground cover to protect tent floors from sharp lava rocks. Also, yes, there are portable toilets onsite.
