As a first-time camper and a solo one at that, I wasn't sure what to expect, but this experience exceeded every hope I had.
Art was incredible from start to finish. He made me feel genuinely welcome and at ease, shared helpful knowledge about the area, and even lent me a walkie-talkie since I didn't have cell service. That small gesture made a huge difference. I felt safe and looked after the entire time.
The location itself is beautiful and full of life. Don't be surprised if you get a friendly visit from cows, deer, or turkeys wandering through your campsite, it's part of the charm.
I would absolutely camp here again, and I'd recommend it to anyone, first-timer or not.

Art’s land was beautiful! Saw a bobcat one night and that was awesome! Tons of space and privacy. One note, there is a lot of poison oak throughout the site that was hard to keep our pup away from, so he has developed a small rash. But if you are more careful or don’t have pets you can probably avoid it.

My wife and I didn’t actually have a chance to go down and camp this weekend. However Art very graciously offered to give us another night for free at some point in the future, even though it was a last-minute cancellation. He did this unprompted. I’m sure the place is everything it’s cracked up to be and we look forward to seeing it at some point.

The Upper Meadow
The view at the top meadow is pleasant, however expect cow patties pretty much everywhere! There is no water, no tables and only a porta potty at the bottom of the hill, so pack accordingly. The bottom of the hill had a lot of flies and smelled like manure so I’m glad we stayed on the top. The cows are friendly and curious, we gave them space and didn’t have a problem even with the dog. We had a nice time. Thanks.

The Upper Meadow
Art was generous and communicative at all times.
There was a big storm coming in and our car wasn’t able to make it up the hill, and Art graciously offered another area to allow us ease of movement in our comings and goings.
We enjoyed a lovely evening with the wind and frogs, and a rare moment of sunshine for the weekend on top of the ridge at sunrise.
Great for anyone exploring the vast natural beauty of the Santa Cruz Mountains and seaside beyond!

Beautiful secluded ridge with a peekaboo view of the ocean. Easy access for any AWD (assuming dry conditions). Watch out for poison oak though!

I loved car camping at Bear Gulch Hide Out. The views from the ridge were incredible — we had views from sunset and sunrise. Art was also incredibly kind and hospitable. Highly recommend this opportunity!

We had such a great time here, the property is absolutely beautiful! We stayed in the open grassy field, which was flat, well-maintained, and perfect for a simple, peaceful campsite.
The views were incredible, with rolling hills stretching out toward the ocean and a stunning sunset. There were cows in the nearby pasture, but the highlight was when a whole herd wandered right up to us at dusk. They politely grazed around us while we ate dinner and it felt totally surreal. My 11-year-old called it “magical,” and I agree.
The site felt private, quiet, and just really special. The host "Art" was also super kind and welcoming.
Highly recommend... We’d absolutely come back.

Me and my son had a great time camping at the Ridge campsite on Art's land. The site is secluded with beautiful views to both east and west. Sunset and sunrise were awesome. We will come again!

This site is very private, beautifully situated in a gnarly oak forest. We loved camping there, as did our golden retrievers. Art was very hospitable, friendly and helpful. If you like primitive camping, no toilets, showers, fire rings, picnic benches, etc., just you and natural beauty, I'd highly recommend this site!

Beautiful site! So super quiet and peaceful. A little tricky to get to with our car but Art made it happen for us. The fire pit was an awesome addition, we would definitely recommend. Thanks again Art! We’ll be back for sure.

This is a great site to relax- beautiful sunsets, quiet and not too far from a super cool general store with live music! This is basically a meadow where there are a couple other longer-term sets ups along the edge but they’re a good distance away and we didn’t really notice them except the occasional car coming/going. Art was great and very helpful showing us our site. We’ll be back for sure!

We stayed two nights at the Ridge campsite, and it was heavenly. It was just as advertised: gorgeous views in all directions including sunsets over the Pacific, total privacy, quiet and dark at night. This time of year (March), everything is so green and the cows dot the nearby hillsides. Art was a delightful host, and our dog loved sniffing and exploring the grounds. We'll be back!

The Ridge
This place was seriously incredible. The views are beautiful and it feels so serene and peaceful the moment you get there. It’s quiet in the best way and just has this calm, grounding energy.
Art was amazing. Super friendly, helpful, and genuinely welcoming. You can tell he cares about making sure guests have a good experience. He was available when needed but also gave us space to enjoy everything.
The site is great for both novice and experienced campers. There’s a table and bench, which made meals and just hanging out really comfortable. Overall, such a special spot. We would absolutely come back.

This campsite is completely secluded with breathtaking views. My dog had a blast as well. Be prepared to hike a bit to the site if you don’t have 4WD. The host is a great communicator and was very descriptive about expectations. An issue came up which he immediately remediated and then some. Truly great experience, I hope to come back again and would absolutely recommend to others!

Upon booking, Art was immediately helpful and recommended The Ridge for the best view and moat privacy. His directions to his farm were clear, and he was quick to reply every time. He met me at the gate to escort me up to the top. I felt safe with him and on his property as a single female camper. He was extra generous with offering me anything that I may need. I really appreciate how comfortable he made me feel. Truly a sweetheart and genuine human.
I'm glad I switched my booking to The Ridge. It's a long strip of land overlooking a valley on both sides and an ocean view. I personally enjoyed the farmland view a little bit more;) I could see cows all around in different pastures. It's a great spot to soak in nature, which I did. I headed a bit down the ridge from where I set up camp, found a sunny patch with a great view, and took a nap. You can find all sort of special spots along the ridge which you have to yourself!
