Short-Term Rental Registration# H503 685 174 Welcome to kootenay Born Camping. Enjoy spectacular mountain views with the crystal clear waters of the beautiful Arrow lake. We are just across the lake and are accessed by the first electric shuttle ferry service in BC. If you are looking to escape the crowded tourist areas but want to feel safe and comfortable, then this is your place. We are surrounded by hiking, biking and ATV trails waiting to be explored. We offer complimentary kayaks and bicycles to explore the beauty that surrounds us. A few miles down the road is Saddle mountain hiking trail, a challenging hike with breathtaking views all the way up. At the top of Saddle Mountain is a look out building with 360 panoramic views that is free to use. A short walk or bike ride from the camp site, through old growth cedar groves and orchard will lead you to Arrow Lake where you can enjoy all types of water activities or take a walk to explore many of the areas private beaches. Grab a kayak or SUP board and explore our many secluded, sandy beach spots. Come and enjoy our beautiful wilderness, It's a whole other world over here.....

This space is located on the upper side of the property where the views of the surrounding Scalping knife and Ingrisol mountains are stunning. Enjoy tranquil walking trails and the refreshing waters of Arrow lake. There are many beautiful lakes around us to explore as well. If hiking is your passion, the the amazing Saddle Mountain Trail head is 9 km away. At the top of the mountain is a quaint forestry cabin with 360° views where you can enjoy a picnic or choose to stay the night.

This beautiful locally hand crafted tiny house, is located close to all amenities and has a breath taking view of the surrounding mountains and forests. With private decks to enjoy your views, heat and air conditioning, electricity and water you will feel the wonders of nature without having to give up some of the comforts of home. Your Tiny is equipped with a fridge and it's own outdoor cooking stove and BBQ, coffee maker & tea kettle. All bedding and linens are provided as are cook/dishware and utensils. A quaint, clean outhouse and on demand hot shower are steps from your door. Enjoy walking and biking paths immersed in nature right from your door. We offer complimentary bicycles and kayaks ( we have life jackets but please bring your own if you like and bring your bike helmets) for guests to explore our beautiful surroundings. Sandy secluded beaches await you. Even though it feels like you are in the wilderness out here, we are only 15 minutes from the town of Nakusp where you'll find quaint coffee shops, restaurants and boutiques and a save on food for supplies. There are 4 Natural hot springs within 1/2 hour of Nakusp. Come stay and play!

The cute little ferry was awesome, and the directions to John and Michelle's were straightforward. We got to nest in a bunch of trees and enjoy the lake and kayaking available. We visited too late in the season to fully take advantage of all the fun stuff to do, so we'll be back in the warmer months!

Kootenay paradise!
Mountain view micro cabin
I can’t wait to come back! John and Michelle have created a lovely and thoughtful way to share their piece of Kootenay paradise. The micro cabin has everything I needed and I’ve never slept so well - incredibly quiet with stunning mountain vistas (and the view from the outdoor shower is top notch). Appreciated having the camp stove and propane, hot showers, clean ‘drop’ toilets, towels, wash station with soap and sponge right outside the cabin, bedding, and of course, Boss the friendly dog. I think I saw every star in the galaxy after dark. The adorable (easy and quick) ferry across to their property was icing on the cake.

Camp site was nice with very clean and pleasantly decorated outhouse. Provided with hot shower and sink for washing. All made camping more comfortable. We enjoyed catching the ferry back and forth. View of the surrounding was great.

A very good location and welcome atmosphere by the hosts. There are amenities on the premises and some gear for playing sports. Kayaking and swimming in the lake is possible. Very much recommended.

Mountain view micro cabin
One of the best places we stayed throughout the hipcamp camping sites we have visited. Great place for bikers to pitch tents and use the covered kitchen, or stay in a micro cabin that includes everything you use at home. The showers are great and washrooms clean and easy to use. Peddle bikes available for biking some awesome trails there and pathways down to the lake where they also have kayaks you can paddle out on the lake. We really wish we could have stayed longer because John and Michelle were so accomodating and inviting. We can't wait to go back with our RV and tour the many lakes with our ebikes. I also notice great tenting spots with hammocks deep in the wooded trees, so cool. Definitely booking for next year.

This campsite is truly a hidden gem. The setting is serene, with spectacular views and a peaceful atmosphere. After a long day of hiking, the hot shower was such a welcome comfort and made the stay even more enjoyable. John and Michelle are welcoming, and ensures you feel comfortable from the moment you arrive. The campsite is well-maintained and thoughtfully set up, which adds to the overall relaxing experience. I would highly recommend this place and will definitely return.

One of the best place to camp. Quite, cozy and full of places of interest within an hour drive. Hiking, beach, hot springs, food and stunning mountain views. John and Samantha extremely friendly and helpful hosts! You'll be feeling yourself like at home. Clean washrooms, showers, kitchen.

Beautiful place. Glad we found this gem of a place. It’s so close to Arrow Lake where we were able to kayak and paddleboard. The hosts were amazing and gave us information on areas to visit around the campground. Will definitely go back and recommend.

It is amazing place, kind and friendly hosts and lots of stuff included to spend unforgettable time: kayaks, bicycles and so on. The most surprising was a bathroom with heated water nearby the camp spot.

Our time at Kootenay Born was fantastic. We were welcomed right away and given an orientation about the property and amenities. We loved the trail to the “backyard beach” at the lake. It was great that they had a kitchen & craft space for everyone to use. There were also outhouses and a shower on site. A bonus was that the entire property is fenced in. We enjoyed especially getting to meet so many different people who were travelling through and making new friends. Ask Michelle and John for tips on where to visit in the local area. They gave us some really good tips!

We loved the spot and the hosts were just the right amount of hands on. It is the ideal for anyone doing the Saddle Mountain Lookout hike. Only downside was the shore at the lake, as we were hoping for more of a spot to lay out. But the water, once you got in, was amazing!

RV Sites - stunning mountain views
This place is awesome. John and Michelle (and their lovely dog Boss) are wonderful hosts, and we really appreciated the firepit and the shower setup. The views from this place are fantastic, and the ferry to Hwy 6 is just 2 min away, takes no time to cross. We will be back!

We had a great time at Kootenay Born. The shady sites were perfect for our needs. The location was beautiful and the beach within walking distance was gorgeous with stunning views. The hosts were responsive and very helpful. We would definitely recommend this campsite.

Hospitality + Views of the surrounding mountains was stunning. Lake hike was fantastic and well marked. Hot showers and clean bathrooms. Bought fresh eggs from Michelle. She is super sweet. John was always ready with a warm smile and willingness to answer any questions. Highly recommend.

This campground was excellent and the hosts went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable. Peaceful and off the beaten track. Well looked after. Lots to keep kids entertained (games, kayaks etc). Beautiful area. We had a fantastic time.

This site was more private than some of the others which we enjoyed! It was nicely shaded too which was great on the hot days after spending time on the beach. There was access to a hammock and kayaks which wete great! The beach was nearby and beautiful. The only thing that wasn't obvious upon booking is that there is a second site right beside the one we booked so you'll be in close quarters with whoever books the other site.

RV Sites - stunning mountain views
It’s a lovely, quiet place to stay near Nakusp that has some nice shady spots, access to the water (a bit of a steep hike down for the last few minutes), clean washrooms and a nice big communal fireplace that we could use with firewood provided. My family had a relaxing stay there and would definitely come back :)
