Located near the Red River Gorge, Creekside Hideaway offers nearly 300 acres of virgin territory to enjoy the nature unique to the hills of Eastern Kentucky. This property was once an illegal coal mining operation and has been reclaimed into a family friendly getaway, Double Crossing Trails. Whether you're looking for a peaceful camping retreat and campfire chats with friends and family or adventurous activities this property has something for all nature lovers.

It's a perfect spot to enjoy: hiking, kayaking, cave exploring, rock climbing, fishing, swimming in the creek or river, Off-Grid ORV adventures and camping.

You can choose one of our semi-primitive sites with fire rings and picknick tables located at the creekside valley.

For the more adventurous backpack-campers or trekkers you're welcome to hike the hills and creek to find your own perfect spot in the woods.

The hilltop views are great for hikers and drone enthusiast as well as hiking throughout the Long Shoal Branch Creek which runs through the entire property and empties into the birth place of the Kentucky River called the Middle Fork Kentucky River.

Because we have created an animal friendly sanctuary we don't allow hunting. However, you're welcome to take as many pictures as you like and enjoy the beauty of wildlife native to Eastern Kentucky, ranging from rabbits, foxes, raccoons, deer, bear, wild turkeys and a host of other birds.

Creekside Hideaway is the perfect spot for visitng the gorge without being smothered by the typical tourists and traffic.

Its a lovely secluded spot, just a quick 20-30 minute drive to all the best trailheads and has some of its own beautiful hiking and foraging opportunities on its 300 acres. I managed to find a bit of chicken of the woods and fatwood for our fire after just a few minutes of wandering.

I brought my husband and son down for a mini camping trip, while I am an experienced camper and hiker, neither of them are big fans of the outdoors.

Ralph was kind enough to set us up with a picnic table and deliver firewood at the appropriate intervals, the table and outhouse gave them just enough comfort to keep the whining to a minimum and the ponies, hound and alpacas kept them entertained.

Will for sure be coming back solo soon to enjoy the area a little more indepth on my own!

Looking for some quiet relaxation? Looking for privacy? This host can make it happen! We were greeted and given choices for our site upon arrival. We had a few guests from time to time (horses, alpacas, and a few deer), but enjoyed the time spent In the peaceful outdoors! Thank you for your hospitality…we will be back!

We loved everything about this place. The creek, the spot, the shade. And the owner was amazing as well. He gave our family a tour of the property and told us all the unique history that was spread through out the whole place. I was even able to catch some fish in the creek as well. Our kids loved the freedom that was offered. We will definitely be back with friends and family.

I drove 5 hrs from Atlanta to find a place where we could put some tent stakes in the ground, soak in some nature and have a secure basecamp for our gear while some Red River Gorge/ Lexington adventures were to be had.
It couldn’t have been better!
The property owner was nothing other than inviting and hospitable. The alpacas and ponies roamed free and made the camp quite entertaining... The property was serene, expansive, dynamic, with some history built in!
In my opinion, it’s a Kentucky camper’s paradise in the making and I will be returning!
