This is a secluded spot in the middle of a residential neighborhood in a town of 570 people. I love this little spot of land, it is like a sanctuary. It is open land surrounded by woods. We own a slice of the pond on the edge of the property. It is mostly fenced, private, gently rolling terrain, and quiet. Deer, racoon, opossum, fox, rabbits, squirrels, snakes, hawks, and bees are residents. I do have a beehive on the property. There is a bar/restaurant within walking distance and other restaurants and gas stations two miles away. Rend Lake is less than ten miles away offering biking, fishing, boating, walking, etc. The Shawnee National Forest lies less than an hour's driving distance to the south. The Shawnee is a jewel, offering hundreds of miles of hiking (River to River Trail), horseback riding, rock climbing, bike riding (Tunnel Hill Trail), caves, waterfalls, and natural wonders. Ferne Clyffe, Giant City Park, Little Grand Canyon, and Garden of the Gods lie within the Shawnee. I worked and hiked in the Forest and can provide maps and tips. Pitch your tent, build a fire in the rock fire pit, gaze at the stars and enjoy nature. There is a basic composting outhouse and outdoor shower for your use. I recently have had city water ran out to the property and there is a water spigot available for use.
