Built in the 1930s and refurbished in 2011, Durbin's Barn has been a favorite campsite for Camp Ondessonk visitors since it's founding in 1959. Situated away from the main area of Camp but easily accessible by car, this unique campsite has plenty of tent space and trees for hammocks outside, and a roomy loft inside the barn giving campers lots of sleeping options no matter the weather. Durbin's Barn has a firepit, benches, picnic table, trash can, recycling bin, and outhouse. Water can be delivered for no charge. Many of Camp Ondessonk's hiking and biking trails converge at Durbin's Barn making it the perfect basecamp for exploring our 983 acres and adjacent Shawnee National Forest. It's a short hike to Cedar Falls, the tallest freefalling waterfall in Illinois, as well as other great hikes on and off our property. Fishing is allowed at nearby Kane Lake, but no boating or swimming.

Our stay at Durbin’s barn exceeded our expectations! The staff was friendly and organized. The barn provided great shelter the first night it rained and helped keep us warm during the cooler nights. We hiked everyday and were continually mentioning how incredible the land is. We miss it already.
