While the cabana itself was cozy, provided a lovely glamping spot in the Hilo rainforest, and had unbelievable views (sunrise from the hammock was a huge highlight), I can’t in good faith recommend this stay.

We selected our accommodations this trip based on COVID protocols and although this was marked as adhering to them, I’m not sure what those were. Not only was no one masking or distancing in shared indoor spaces (which we luckily managed to avoid due to the shared fridge being full of rotten food, so we used our cooler outside instead), but my husband was vibed for wearing his mask when going into the shared space when we arrived.

Travelers should be definitely be aware that there is a hostel in addition to the cabanas, so prepare for that feel also. While our cabana was clean, the kitchen spaces were filthy, and after cooking there one night (being swarmed by feral cats, one of which took a swipe at my husband’s foot) we ate the rest of our meals away. In fact, we stayed away pretty much except to sleep as there were not any weather conducive, non-indoor hangout spaces.

There were a few smokers on premises and while the semi-outdoor shower should’ve been a perk, even at 6:45 am we were breathing in secondhand smoke while trying to get clean. Other guests weren’t very friendly and didn’t even seem to care when we asked around about a light on in someone’s truck.

We do a lot of camping (and also have stayed in many hostels in the past) and wanted to love this spot so much, but left very disappointed.

I had such a fantastic stay in the hammock cabana! The views were amazing and the facilities were perfect for the stay. Nearby to lots of attractions and hikes. It was the perfect, relaxing getaway spot. Already planning my next stay!

This was great for a night! It is located very close to Hilo and also to Akaka Falls State Park. We had our thermarest pads and sleeping bags with us for other places we were staying so we didn't actually sleep in the cabanas, but it made a good place to stay for a night in close proximity to things we wanted to do. I will note that you should zip up the covers around the cabana before night in case it rains (we only closed them, and it rained, but still little rain water got inside). There was a kitchen area that we didn't use other than to fill up our waters but would be handy if you were staying for multiple nights. I appreciated the access to the shower (and the shower view was great). Wear bug spray if visiting the waterfall in the evening.

The welcoming host and the laid back environment. The hammocks and cabanas were comfortable. The short walk to the waterfall which was perfect for a quick cool off dip. The sunrise from the cabana was breathtaking. I can not wait to go back.

The cabana accommodations were comfortable and so beautiful, and everyone we met working there was incredibly welcoming and informative. Could not have asked for a better stay!

Convenient location close to Hilo. We found the cabana to be quite relaxing, and the amenities were nice as well.

Really wonderful place to stay about 20 minutes north of Hilo. Truly a magical experience sleeping surrounded by the sounds of the jungle. The semi enclosed shower offers breathtaking views all the way to the ocean. Plenty of blankets provided as it can get chilly with the trade winds. Excellent stay all around. Mahalo!

The location of this property was stunning. It was close to Hilo (about 30 minutes) and other sites in the area. I was slightly disappointed with how far away the bathroom was (didn't get a chance to check out the other common areas and the community fire-pit, etc...). I knew it'd be a bit of walk after the manager sent me a copy of the property map. There are around 6 cabanas that are spread out over a long driveway- no longer than a 5 min walk, but in the middle of the night was darker than I expected!

Furthermore, I did love how quiet it was at night. It had rained all day, so unfortunately the light in my cabana would not turn on. I let the property manager know, and she helped me out by providing a rechargeable lantern. It was a pretty chilly night, and I actually woke up a few times from the breeze! Luckily, there was extra blankets and the blinds came down for a little more privacy. Price wise, it was a little over the top for what was provided- but I am happy I experienced this type of accommodation! I'd recommend for anyone looking to escape the hustle n' bustle of the touristy areas and looking to connect closer to the ocean and Hawai'i rainforests!
