This is one of two listings on our property and comes with electricity and water hookups. Our homestead is located in the heart of Citrus County, FL. We are a small 5 acre operation which includes various livestock, mown pathways, and garden plots with electrical hookup (50 and/or 30 amp), water, outdoor sink, and composting toilet. Laundry may be available for an extra fee. We are 17 miles inland from the Gulf of Mexico on Florida's Nature Coast. St. Petersburg, Tampa and Orlando are all within 100 miles. The manatee capital of the world in Crystal River is just a 30 minute drive, where you have access to fishing, kayaking, SUPing and so much more. Our homestead is within walking distance of the Citrus Wildlife Management Area in the Withlacoochee State Preserve where you will find caving oportunities, horseback riding, mountain biking and off roading as well as excellent hiking. In addition, Citrus County is home to the Tsala Apopka chain of lakes, and the Withlacoochee River runs right through it, increasing opportunities for motor boating, airboating, and fishing experiences. There is a wealth of springs within a very short drive. The 46 mile Rails to Trails of the Withlacoochee Bike Path runs adjacent to the lakefront in downtown Inverness, where you'll find a thriving area of locally owned shops, restaurants and our very own brewery. We hope you'll visit our homestead in Inverness, a "small town done right"!

Not really an open field camping ex

The host was super nice since the moment we got there she gave us a tour of the property and told us to pick a spot . We walked around and picked a spot in the back of the property . The only thing I did not like is that there is not open land or space that is not close (by 50 feet) from the main House, the work shop or other houses in the back. The only part of the property that was private was full of rusted car parts, trailers and other stuff scattered around. So there was not to manny choices to the contrary of what I tought having in mind that the add stayed it is a 5 acre property. I really felt like I was camping in the backyard of a home rather than in the open field. That said the rest was great. the compost toilet inside of a
(camping tent) was clean, water hoses everywhere to use at our discretion the animals where a nice touch, if you dont mind waking up at 6 am by the ruster.

Gosh, sorry you didn’t choose to stay out behind the barn further from everything, Lester. I believe that was because you wanted the water and electricity options which of course were not available away from the buildings in our more open area. And, yes, the older vehicles, which are on our neighbors property, can be seen as a bit of an eyesore, but hopefully the hedges we’ve planted will help to rectify that in the near future. Thanks for staying with us!

Easter weekend stay.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Helton Homestead. We had two nights free in between state parks and chose this location because there were a couple of animals on premises which out daughter loves. Susie and her husband were really kind and welcoming. Susie showed around their beautiful property, gave us some history on it, and showed us where we could get comfortable. We were there on Easter weekend and they even let our little one join in on their families Easter egg hunt. What a nice family! Our little one had so much fun and we were very grateful. We would highly recommend staying there and would definitely stay there again.

The Helton Homestead was absolutely wonderful. It was exactly what I had been envisioning for our camp out.
Their piece of land is very natural and accommodating. Their two donkey's and horse, very charming, not to mention the chickens!
We would definitely stay again when we visit Florida.

Susie and Mark were Awesome Host. They meet us when we arrived and told us exactly where we needed to park our camper to get setup.

We really enjoyed hearing about their working farm and the visions they had for its future. The stay was very peaceful and relaxing. We are from the Florida area and definitely plan to return. You definitely need The Helton Homestead to your list of places to stay.. Very Clean and peaceful.

Thank you so much for the hospitality Susie and Mark!!!

Susie and Mark were excellent hosts! They went out of their way to make sure we were happy and comfortable. It's a working farm so there are animal noises, but they didn't bother us! Fun place to stay and very nice people!
