A village rooted in agriculture, Mount Pleasant acts as a top base camp for midwestern adventure. Head north of town to Northern Unit Kettle Moraine State Forest to explore glacial landforms, enjoy beaches, and hike the Ice Age Trail. Campsites are readily available with dump stations, bathroom facilities, and full hookups, while cabin rentals provide hot tubs and furnishings. South of Mount Pleasant, Illinois Beach State Park stretches across 4,160 acres of wilderness and 6.5 miles of Lake Michigan shoreline. Waterfront tent and RV sites are great in summer and provide access to potable water, firepits, and barbecue grills. Lakeside cabin and glamping rentals are also plentiful—find free wifi and cable at most of them. One last stop west of town leads to Chain O’ Lakes State Park for boating and angling on Marie, Grass, and Nippersink Lakes.
