Your Host lives onsite in the stone house that also acts as a hostel for hikers on the Appalachian Trail. Built in the 1930's all from locally sourced hand-hammered stone, the house is open every night from 5pm - 9pm. Note that we offer several campsites relatively close to each other, so you should expect to see and hear other campers on the property during your stay. About the listing Pitch your tent in a forested area just a short walk up from where you’ll park your car. Enjoy unbeatable proximity to hiking and panoramic views while still having basic amenities that ensure a comfortable stay. You’ll have access to a composting pit toilet, and can access potable water from the tap in the lodge. That’s also where you can access hot showers. As noted above, we host Appalachian Trail thru hikers on the property, so you may see them hanging around or sleeping in the bunkhouse near the shared facilities. For meals, we have picnic tables, and you are encouraged to cook over the fire pits that accompany each site. Please practice Leave No Trace practices during your stay, as the property has raccoons and other critters who will be drawn to any food scraps that are left behind. Pets are allowed! Please keep them on leash during your stay. Trash can be disposed of in the bins onsite. Additional details to note Expect to see and hear other campers on the property during your stay. No kitchen equipment is provided, so campers must bring their own supplies if they'd like to cook. We do not offer WiFi, but there is good cell reception for all common carriers.

We offer camping essentials, local art, bike rentals, farm experiences and tours. The property has miles of trails along mountain spring-fed streams, a small pond and access to three private acres on the Robinson River, a stocked Trout stream, just 2 miles down the road. Our property is centrally located to White Oak Canyon and Old Rag Mountain trailheads in the Shenandoah National Park as well as many vineyards and breweries. We are in the process of restoring an 1850s Chestnut log cabin, which will be available for our guests to rent as well as other cottages.

A World Away Farm:Serenity + nature

The land was marched across by Civil War soldiers on ther way to Gettysburg. They were on their way from Brandy Station to cross the Rappahannock River at Kelly's Ford. Much later there were horses in the fields, a well and spring were hand dug, a pond created and slowly buildings were built and expanded, but no barns as it was not really farmed. This meant no chemicals have been used on the land for over 60 years and perhaps ever. The plan is to keep it organic, but do something with it. Ideas are welcome. Relic hunters have found confederate bullets, a belt buckle and an early 1900 Ford logo. Fresh eggs and seasonal vegetables maybe available. Indoor games, frisbees, and horseshoes as well as paper for fire starting in the bathhouse. There are miles of dirt roads surrounding to ride bikes on. Apparently this area is very popular with cyclists, as many of the campers so far have been avid cyclists. We're about 10 minutes to historical downtown Leesburg, Virginia. 1 mile to Stone Tower Winery and Zephaniah Farm Vineyard. There's a gas station 1 mile away and 10 minutes to Walmart, restaurants, outlets and shopping centers. Balls Bluff historical park and other Civil War points of interest are close by and Harper's Ferry, WV is about 40 minutes from here. HUNTER'S PARK BY DC

The campground is situated in the wooded area on the back of 27 acre horse farm which is known as "The Stables at Mezza Luna." Every year in the spring there are 4-6 Thoroughbred foals born that eventually will become racehorses. They live on the farm until they are 2 years old and then they go off to begin their racing career. In the daytime, when you are not sitting around your campfire, you can walk the fence lines and visit with the Mares and Foals or just watch them frolic in the fields. Hint! "They love peppermints, carrots and apples." Who knows, you might get to meet a future Kentucky Derby winner. Nearby attractions include: Vineyard 61 (5 minutes) Stone Silo Brewery (5 Minutes) Leechwood Haunted Forest (5 Minutes) October weekends only There are also chickens, ducks and peacocks that are very anxious to receive your love and affection with any type of treat as well. About

Step back in time to the start of the U.S. Civil War at Manassas, Virginia, near Bull Run (a creek on the property). The rolling plains here mark not one, but two, battles that changed America forever. The visitor's center offers a personal perspective on the bloodiest conflict in American history.

Summertime represents the best season to see the battlefield as Rangers give guided tours. You can also BYOH, (bring your own horse) to explore the grounds just like the cavalryman did 150 years ago. A paved road allows for car tours, and hiking trails let you explore the grounds on foot.

The visitor's center is replete with artifacts, some of which were found on the battlefield itself. Cannons, historic buildings, and picket fences dot the landscape. It looks pretty much the same as it did back in the 1860s.

During the first battle, civilians spread out picnics with tea as they watched the armies advance towards each other. When the bullets started to fly, they fled with their horse-drawn carriages in a panic. People realized the war was serious at that point. You can have a picnic lunch (thankfully without the musket fire) on the grounds of this 5,000-acre park.

Both battles were Confederate victories. If the southern troops had marched another 30 miles to Washington DC, the war might have had a very different outcome.

Manassas Battlefield is large enough to make a day of it, especially if you love history and nature walks.
