Olive Farm

40 sites · RVs, Tents100 acres · Murroon, VIC
Welcome to the Olive Farm! We are a working olive farm situated on the edge of the Otway Ranges, between Deans Marsh and Birregurra, 25 minutes to Lorne and the Great Ocean Road, and only a few kilometers from the famous Brae Restaurant. We are in a beautiful part of the world, so please remember to bring a toilet and take all your rubbish with you when you leave. Dogs are welcome, but please be aware that we are full of kangaroos, sheep, and other wildlife, so they may need to be placed on a leash for the safety of fellow campers and wildlife. Fires are permitted in fire pits, and wood is available to purchase on-site. We have a fragile ecosystem here, so we ask not to bring in wood and to purchase it off the farm. Olive oil from 2023 is available, and table olives harvested this year are in brine, ready to jar up. The table olives we have are Kalamata, Spanish Queens, and Jumbo Kalamata.

Secluded Otways Forest Camp

1 site · RV, Tent8 acres · Deans Marsh, VIC
Our property is surrounded by the Otways forest and native Australian bush. Under 2 hours from Melbourne, and only 10-15minutes drive from the Otway Harvest Trail. Find a spot to park your van, tent, camper trailer or caravan on our beautiful natural piece of secluded bush, and you won't see or hear another soul. You may spot lots of birds and wildlife, or enjoy the beautiful view from the road. Please note: this is a spot for people such as hikers who appreciate nature and understand the concept of ‘leave no trace’. It’s not for parties or big groups. There are limited facilities (there is a basic composting toilet to use on site, but it’s not suitable as a caravan dump point) so you need to be totally self-sufficient and take all your waste and rubbish with you. BYO water. We are happy to accommodate up to 8 ppl, but please take everything with you, and leave our beautiful wilderness spot exactly as you left it, don't destroy the native vegetation and don't feed the wildlife. Fires only in the fire-pit please and must be totally extinguished (with water, so bring extra) before you leave, and not on fire ban days. You must BYO firewood and take all your rubbish away with you. Extra charges will apply for any rubbish, food scraps etc left on site.Enjoy!

Bells Beach Camping

2 sites · RVs, Tents10 acres · Torquay, VIC
A beautiful bush block of 10 acres, only 2km from the famous Bells Beach. Torquay town is only a 10 min drive with a range of beautiful food and drinking options. Bellbrae is a beautiful suburb as it is very quiet and peaceful compared to the chaos and noise that comes to Torquay in quite season. Bellbrae would be the closest place to camp to Torquay whilst still getting peace, quiet and privacy.

Erskine Falls Retreat

3 sites · RVs, Tents125 acres · Lorne, VIC
125 acre property on the fringe of the beautiful seaside town of Lorne. The bustling tourist town is home to some of Australia's finest wildlife including koala's, kangaroos, kookaburra's and wallabies... all of which are witnessed roaming around the property with undisturbed nonchalance. In addition to this wildlife, the natural landscape and scenery is one to behold, with lush green grass, waterfalls scattered around the area (including Erskine Falls just a 2 minute drive from the property) and the chance to cool off in the ocean with a short 10 minute drive into the township of Lorne. Your passage to Lorne is an extraordinary one to say the least, spoilt for choice with two incredible routes, the first is the unique and famous Great Ocean Road... exhibit beautiful waves, clear blue water and a road fit for a race-car track. The second route to Lorne is via small regional towns inland with endless rolling hills and healthy green landscapes as far as the eye can see and that's all before you hit Otway national park! This secluded property is special because it is situated in a remarkable position with the perks of both country and coastal living, not to mention unrivalled serenity... being 550m above sea level, snow isn't uncommon on the odd day during winter and surf is only 10 minutes away, so truly extraordinary. There are huge Trees approximately 200ft tall that tower over you in an area of the property we refer to as "valley of the kings" and some in excess of 300 years old. Witness small isolated gulleys (if the weather permits) and you're prepared for a little small hike into our wonderland. My family and I are situated in a modest farmhouse on the north side of the property, with our little camping spots for you scattered around the scenic high points. Water is provided on site, leave the area as you found it. Otherwise get your adventure started.

Matthews Creek Farm

2 sites · RVs, Tents30 acres · Murroon, VIC
Matthew’s Creek Hipcamp is a 30 acre north-facing slope looking out from the Otway Ranges towards the volcanic Western Districts. Behind us lies the grand splendour of the Great Ocean Road with all it’s wonderful attractions. (www.visitgreatoceanroad.org.au) This camp offers a great place to park or pitch the tent and explore everything the region has on offer. We guarantee privacy, seclusion, security, peace, and tranquility. Although, there is Rocky, the Light Sussex rooster to add to the atmosphere! There is patchy mobile and internet at the sites. It is best to arrive in daylight, we are difficult to find in the dark. In the near vicinity we have the Pennyroyal Raspberry farm and Hero’s winery. For lunch or dinner there is The Store in Dean’s Marsh, Dar Teta and the Forrest Brewing Company in Forrest, and Gentle Annie in Pennyroyal who provide grazing platters and picnics featuring many of the locally produced treats found on the Otway Harvest Trail (www.otwayharvesttrail.org.au). At this stage we have 2 camping sites, the Goat Paddock, suitable for larger vehicles and RVs, and the Old Orchard, more suited for tents only due to access issues. Welcome to Matthews Creek Hipcamp!

Camping near Anglesea guide

Overview

Only 37 kilometers from Geelong, Anglesea, a popular seaside community and family holiday destination boasts a lovely surf beach that's back by striking, orange-hued cliffs. The Anglesea River offers canoeing and windsurfing opportunities, while excellent walks abound in Coogoorah Park and the heathlands. Amenities, from supermarkets to cafes, are plentiful.  Anglesea is known for its kangaroo mobs. To see them, get a ‘hoppin to the local golf course (tours offered). Campers can choose from a Big4 to the well-located Anglesea Family Caravan Park where camping sites face the water.

Aireys Inlet

The famous landmark of this low-key coastal hamlet, that’s spread out along cliffs and the marshlands behind (think good bird life), is the Spit Point Lighthouse (1834). Aireys has two parks, a Big4, with full facilities, and Aireys Inlet Holiday Park, on the main road with tent sites (no power). Here, caravans have the choice of private ensuite cabins and there’s a small camp kitchen.

Great Memorial Arch

A short drive from Anglesea, at Eastern View, stands the famous memorial arch and ‘diggers’ sculpture commemorating the 75th Anniversary of the building of the Great Ocean Road. This famous landmark of Australia was erected to commemorate the returned servicemen from World War I who built the Great Ocean Road from 1918 to 1932.

Surf Coast Walk

Stretching for 44km between Point Impossible (near Torquay) and Fairhaven (near Airey’s Inlet), the trail of the Surf Coast Walk follows the coastline. The walk passes through the famous Bells Beach, famous for surfing. Anglesea is a handy departure point to do some of the walk—north to Fairhaven, or south towards Point Impossible.

Fairhaven and Point Roadknight

Heading south, Point Roadknight Beach, near Anglesea, is a beautiful arc of sand framed by orange cliffs and is a handy alternative to the family-filled Anglesea front beach. If you’re heading southwards, along the coast to Lorne, stop at Fairhaven and walk for kilometers along golden sand!

When to go

You’ll need to reserve ahead from December 26 until the end of January when the summer holiday crowds descend on the coast. Be aware of bushfires in the hottest months. At any other time of year, the village takes on a slower pace and you’ll have Anglesea pretty much to yourselves.

Know before you go

  • If driving, beware kangaroos around Anglesea, especially when driving at dusk and in the evenings when they appear to nibble on front lawns. If you do encounter one, allow it to hop away at its will (they may become disorientated by the headlights).
  • As everywhere along the Great Ocean Road, adhere to all bushfire warnings.
  • Anglesea has reasonable services, including a small supermarket; for a wider choice, stock up in Torquay (if you’re heading west).
