Lavender Essentials of Vermont

40 sites ¡ Lodging, RVs, Tents12 acres ¡ Derby, VT
Pierre Capron and Michele Judd started the lavender farm in the spring of 2017. Both Michele and Pierre grew up on dairy farms in the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont, and are proud to be the next generation of farmers, working the same land as Michele’s grandparents once did. We are a multi-generational farm family, hoping to develop a successful business that can one day be passed onto our children. Learn more about this land: Imagine camping at a romantic lavender farm at the top of Vermont. Lavender Essentials of Vermont sits on top of a 1,600' hill in the quaint little town of Derby, Vermont. Nestled in a hillside meadow, the campsites are only a short walk from the lavender fields and 360' of breathtaking views. You will want to bring your camera! Stay with us at our farm, and take in the quaint, picturesque countryside. We offer a peaceful site, away from it all, to relax and experience Vermont. In the meadows you can pick wild flowers, take an afternoon nap, wander the trails, bird watch, or listen to frogs and catch fireflies in the evening. At night you will be amazed at the star filled sky! Day or night it's hard to deny the peaceful and romantic feeling you get from the lavender farm! The farm has a Lavender Labyrinth, fields of sunflowers, chamomile, mint (and other herbs and vegetables), bees, informational placards along walking trails, cozy private seating, a gazebo for special events, a hidden geocache, and even a gift shop! There are lots of things to see and do on the farm. Especially during bloom season—June-September. Check out our event calendar and follow us on Facebook to stay up to date on what's happening at the farm (Lavender-Essentials.com). Whether it’s nature or culture you seek, peace or thrills, this unique area of the Northeast Kingdom offers something for everyone! Your hosts, Michele and Pierre, are locals and they know all the best and unadvertised places to explore. Ask them about local dives and even haunted hikes. Just 30 minutes away is one of the best bike parks in New England, Kingdom Trails in Burke.  Also nearby is Jay Peak, a ski resort with an indoor water park, golf course, ice arena, climbing walls, and much more! The farm is located just 2 miles from the Canadian border. Magog, Sherbrooke, and Montreal offer a taste of international cultural that will appease your Quebecois desires! If you plan to visit Canada while you are here, remember you must have your passport!  Stay at one of the most beautiful places on earth, and allow us to help you find peace and tranquility, or we can be your personal adventure guide! We go out of our way to provide you with a memorable stay, and do our best to facilitate the kind of vacation you are looking for!  We love dogs, but we must insist dogs be kept on a leash at all times. Dogs are not allowed in the farm's fields because we grow culinary grade crops and must protect them. All dog waste must be cleaned immediately and is restricted to designated pet rest areas. Owners will be held responsible for any damages. Please keep your campsite clean.  Fires are allowed, as long as winds are not strong. Our weather can be breezy, and exposed at times, so pack according. Bring a sweater and a kite! There's a reason we have a 140ft wind turbine.

Willoughby Farm Animal Rescue

9 sites ¡ Lodging, RVs, Tents107 acres ¡ Fairlee, VT
We are a 107-acre forest and farm animal rescue. Sleep with the sheep, alpacas, donkeys, potbellied pigs, and rabbits when you pitch your tent or park your camper on our Vermont Farm! Reserve the group site and sleep in the middle of the action! Co-located in the open, grassy area with the free-roaming farm rescues is our RV site. Co-located sites share a community fire ring, so it's a great way to meet and make new friends! Don't have a tent or RV? Spend a magical night in "The Greenhouse" (it's a real, working greenhouse that doubles as accommodations for those looking for a more "glamping" experience). Want a little privacy? Reserve one of our two tricked-out Tent Deck sites, (Buddha North & Grandmother Pine) each with its own picnic table, private fire ring, and commercial-grade park grill. Nestled, discretely in the forest adjacent to the area where the animals are, you will feel like you are in the middle of nowhere even though you are less than a 5-minute walk from your car! Looking for something a bit more remote and spectacular? Hike a half-mile to the Big Sky Tent Deck. An incredible vista awaits you for a little effort! Need gear? We have it for rent, from cast iron grill baskets and griddles to make cooking over a charcoal grill or fire a breeze to tents to 1- and 2- burner propane stoves to tarps to water containers. We even have an Anker Portable Power Station and Portable Kerosene Heater for rent! Need Supplies? Charcoal? Propane? We've got it. ----- We are a small non-profit (501c3). When you stay with us, rent equipment from us, or take a tour with us, 100% of money you pay goes directly for the care and feeding of the rescue animals. Thanks for supporting us in making a difference in the lives of neglected, abused, and abandoned farm animals! ----- IMPORTANT: MAY 24-26 2024 IS OUR VOLUNTEER WEEKEND AT THE RESCUE. LOTS OF PEOPLE, LOTS OF ACTION, LOTS OF FUN, LOTS OF POOP SHOVELLING AND MORE . ----- CHECK-IN TIME: 3:00 pm - 7:00 pm. Please arrive within this time window. You may purchase a check-in extension for $15 in advance or $30 on arrival if absolutely necessary.

Lake Tenting/Sm. RV Hyde Park VT

1 site ¡ RV, Tent6 acres ¡ Hyde Park, VT
You have your choice of camping with your van or small RV or tent, in a level, forested area (not lakeside) with picnic table and fire pit, or tenting lakeside with water views, picnic table and fire pit, or both! You have access to both, one reservation comes with both spots, so you can enjoy the lakeside regardless of where you sleep. Vehicles cannot reach the tent site, it is a steep trail about a 150 feet. Although our campsite is near the lake, you cannot drive to the water from the campsite. It is a steep, short hike down to the water. We recommend you bring canoes, kayaks and/ or paddle boards to get the most enjoyment out of your stay. It will be a rugged trip with the boats up and down the path to the water, but worth it in every way. There are three private homes on the lake, adjacent to where your site it located so we ask that no loud partying, play music only quietly and no generators. There are no campers on either side of your campsite, we only offer one, the perfect social distancing location. There is a nice, clean outhouse and no other amenities (Tier D in HipCamp-speak). No on site water. There are no other campsites at our place, you have the place to yourself. We have two dogs on the property, who are friendly and are off leash. If having dogs around would be a problem for you, please don't make a reservation. If you plan on bringing a dog please let us know.

Very quiet with great swimming and lots of hikes right from your sites. 2 of the Brookside Sites (Wishbone Left and Right) are close by (2.7 miles) where we have another 1/2 mile of river frontage and can handle bigger groups as Conservation land on Sunrise Farm only allows 4 campers per site. Sunrise Farm Sites 1 and 2 have oodles of space and Spectacular 50 mile views of Mount Monadnock with no house lights out there in the evening except the party string lights we provide. Site 1 (with entrance 70 yards south of the farmhouse) is best for camping in with up to 20 foot trailers or multiple tents …on the large flat spaces in the 25 acre field to choose from. Great Well water available near farmhouse. Biodegradable soaps Only if used in the ponds. Double Olympic sized Swim Pond we stock with Rainbow Trout to keep clear. We have been advised Not to allow imported firewood (can import Wood Beetle dangerous for our forest). - PLEASE use the Firewood bundle tubs we provide ($11) - pick up at the farmhouse or pull wood from the woods (and make it safer for use). Beautiful and plenty of wildlife nearby... as well as Port a Potties are marked on Map we provide with solar lights marking them at night. Do Not Leave food out when camping or away from site. Bears are rarely seen but it is wild country. Sites have locking garbage lids. Unique and lovely as well as being next to trails and roads to miles of remote spots with very few if any ... people. In Winter we request only AWD vehicles go down to this site or park up by farmhouse and hike in so you can easily get out. When wet park up by the road if you have 2 wheel drive. Always WISE to arrive When LIGHT out as we do not live at the site and are not able to show guests to their sites as a result.

Bear Mountain Horse Camp (off grid)

5 sites ¡ RVs, Tents448 acres ¡ VT
EXPLORING AN OFF-THE-GRID HORSE CAMP BEAR MOUNTAIN HORSE RESORT Located in a remote section of Maidstone Vermont near Maidstone State Park is a new totally off-the-grid horse camping experience called Bear Mountain off grid Horse Resort! It’s not often when a new horse camp lopes into existence. And, even more rare, is to find one totally off the grid—not hooked up to conventional sources of electricity and water. But this off-the-beaten-path camp offers some of the best views of the woods you can enjoy from the back of a horse. Some of our riding friends had spoken enthusiastically about Bear Mountain Horse Resort. After hearing about their adventures, we wanted to see what it was like in person and hear the story behind it. So, we loaded up our horses, Ben and Frank, and headed to Maidstone Vermont. For being in such an isolated location, it is a little difficult getting in off of Route 102. No one wants to beat up their living-quarters trailer on a rutted, dirt road. And we had no problems with our living quarters. However, if you have a longer trailer, you may want to drive in first without your trailer and check out the Bear Hill Road for large rocks that could bottom out your vehicles and see all of potential washouts, turns and dips in the road. Maidstone is located near Groveton, New Hampshire off of Route 102, travel on Route 3 as well from Lancaster, New Hampshire. Located 20 miles north of Santa's Village. Don’t be worried about how far away it is from stores because they all are 15 or so minutes away: the best is yet to come. Turn left on Bear Hill Road if you are traveling from south to north, look for the Bear Hill Mountain Resort sign on the left about two miles after leaving the pavement!

Hawk Haven Farm

2 sites ¡ RVs, Tents5 acres ¡ West Burke, VT
We offer one campsite on approximately 5 acres of land dedicated for camping. Situated in the path of totality for the solar eclipse, our property boasts stunning views and absolute privacy. Ideal for self-contained 4X4 vans and truck campers, our site does not provide water, toilets, or electricity. All trash brought in must be taken out with you. Tents, trailers, and open fires are not permitted. Located in close proximity to Kingdom Trails biking, which commences in East Haven, VT, our site also offers excellent loops and trails for walking. Additionally, a brewery is just 2 miles down route 114. Hawk Rock Road is an excellent gravel trail for bike riding, and our location provides easy access to Burke Mountain and the myriad attractions of the Northeast Kingdom. Please note: The current photos reflect conditions after a recent snowstorm; the area is now dry and flat.

RV camping in Vermont guide

Overview

As you wind your way through Vermont’s picturesque highways, minding roadside moose along the way, you’ll find plenty of epic places to park your RV or campervan for some camping. Vermont’s opportunities range from private RV campsites with full hookups, free wifi, and bathrooms to state park RV sites (typically with no hookups), such as those in the mountain biking stronghold of New Discovery State Park. The state is especially popular among outdoor adventurers in summer after the harsh winter and unpredictable spring have gone, although summer rainstorms are common (nothing beats the protection of RV camping to combat a downpour—it’s much better than a worn-down rain fly). Park your rig in Vermont to go paddling Green River Reservoir State Park, cycling in Grand Isle State Park, or driving through the mountain scenery.
