The Navasota River Ranch

16 sites ¡ RVs, Tents600 acres ¡ Navasota, TX
The Navasota River Ranch is a 600 ac parcel of land bounded by more than a mile of the Navasota River on its west side and two tributary creeks on its north and southeast sides. The river bottom is wild and untamed, while the rest is rolling hills reminiscent of the prairie that once greeted settlers. Nearby is Bryan-College Station home of Texas A&M University To the west on Hwy 105 is Washington on the Brazos State Park. This is the location where delegates gathered to hastily draw up a declaration of independence before joining the Runaway Scrape to avoid capture and execution by the advancing Mexican Army. Farther down the road is the famous Blue Bell creamery in Brenham. The tour and ice cream are well worth the trip. On the property are miles of Jeep trails excellent for off road and 4WD vehicles. Guests might prefer hiking along these trails or strike out on foot trails and game trails. Thanks to the hunters who have come for the deer and feral hogs over the years there are numerous observation structures for viewing wildlife up close, or just enjoying the solitude of the deep woods. Three ponds offer bass and perch fishing from the bank or bring your own boat. And then there is the Navasota River...

Buck Acres near Lake Conroe, TX

20 sites ¡ RVs, Tents6 acres ¡ Montgomery, TX
The previous owner had plans to turn our property into a 42 site row by row RV Park. Once we saw the beauty of the property, we knew we had to keep it as wild and pristine as possible. On 6.5 acres the perfect number of sites was 18 keeping the large house for short-term rental (coming soon.) Sorry, we are still under construction but excited about our progress! See a short video at https://www.buckacresrv.com Buck Acres is technically not even an RV park, we just want to share our property with fellow travelers so we added some gravel roads. The only amenities are a Wi-Fi, 50/30/20A plug-ins, a porta-john and water. We use HipCamp and The Dyrt for bookings or just give us a call or text at (832) 303-9940 "Close to everything, away from it all" We're in the country but close to city amenities and beautiful Lake Conroe. It's only a few minutes from April Sound and the largest marina on Lake Conroe, 8 minutes to Wal-Mart and Kroger, yet it's peaceful and quiet on our forested property. As full-time RV nomads ourselves we know RV park rates are getting crazy, Buck Acres is our attempt to help the community. We've done everything we can to keep rates down. The only amenities we offer are shade, Wi-Fi, electricity, water, and an ADA porta john that is cleaned every week. Affordable RV parks shouldn't be sweltering parking lots where you're packed in like sardines! At Buck Acres we have 100' tall hardwoods and pines that have been trimmed up 60' for the safety of you and your rig! Buck Acres is still under construction and it is a labor of love. All proceeds go immediately back into the park. Bring your family, pets, and friends - tents and RVs welcome! Please Note: Quiet Hours are 10pm - 8am Please keep fires within designated fire rings Keep pets on leash - Clean up any pet waste Do not walk through other people’s campsites. Respect the boundaries and their privacy. Dispose of garbage in designated trash receptacles Guests are responsible for the behavior of their children and pets Guests are responsible for all damage or destruction of property and any injury to persons caused by the guest, or by their family, visitor(s), or pets. Camping near San Felipe guide

Overview

Just an hour from downtown, the riverside suburb of San Felipe makes a strategic spot from which to explore the Houston region. Campers will find a choice of RV parks around town, but the most scenic spot to camp is the Stephen F. Austin State Park on the banks of the Brazos River. Dive into Texas history at the San Felipe de Austin State Historic Site, enjoy forest hikes and bike rides in the 437-acre park, and admire kites and warblers along the riverfront. There’s even an 18-hole golf course right next door.

Where to go

North Houston

Houston’s northern suburbs are hemmed in by a green belt of state parks, lakes, and national forests. Camp, hike, and fish at Lake Conroe or Huntsville State Park, explore the sprawling Sam Houston National Forest, or continue north into the adjoining Lake Livingston State Park. Closer to the city, Lake Houston is a popular recreation ground, and you can camp at the lakeside Wilderness Park

Along the Brazos River

South of San Felipe, country campgrounds and RV parks pepper the banks of the Brazos River. The Brazos Bend State Park should be top of the to-do list for fishing and birding enthusiasts, and camping options include primitive sites and an equestrian camp. Further south, the sandy beaches and coastal wetlands of the Gulf Coast are easily reached on a day trip.

South Austin

West of San Felipe, the Colorado River winds its way to Austin, passing several state parks, lakes, and camping spots. Enjoy fishing, canoeing, and lakeside camping in Buescher State Park, or choose between walk-in campsites, full hookup sites, and cabins in Bastrop State Park. Just 20 minutes from downtown Austin, McKinney Falls State Park is ideal for urban campers looking to escape the crowds.

When to go

Camping is possible year-round in San Felipe, but spring and fall bring the most pleasant weather. Summers are scorching in Texas, with daily temperatures averaging 94°F and high humidity—you might want to rethink hiking and tent camping and take your RV to the riverside instead. Migrating birds pass through the Stephen F. Austin State Park in spring and fall, while forest hiking is most scenic against the colorful backdrop of autumn leaves.

Know before you go

  • There are no public transport links to Houston, so you’ll need your own way to get to and around San Felipe.
  • San Felipe has a selection of shops where you can purchase groceries, camping gear, and fishing supplies. Pick up everything you need in town before heading out to Stephen F. Austin State Park.
  • Most Texas State Parks require reservations for both day passes and campgrounds, and fishing permits are often required.
