We're a five acre piece of an historic Texas ranch in Southwest San Antonio, just 20-minutes from downtown, sitting along the Medina River. Come for the day or stay the night for some primitive camping. We've got plenty of room for tents, roof-top-tent setups or car/van dry-camping. We’re currently in the building/restoring process, but we’ll have some electrical, drinking water, fire pits, plenty of shade, compost toilets, water in the river, and plenty of good vibes.  Old Herrera Ranch has been in our family since the early 1800's and holds a lot history. A couple of our old buildings, the "jacals", are dated from around the 1830-40's. You'll also see the old "Dance Hall" which is great for hanging out or even some cover if it rains. They say that Santa Anna's army, invading from Mexico, may have crossed through our area on their way to the Alamo. This may be because our part of the river includes some of the more shallow areas of the Medina River. For more information, feel free to take a look at our page on the San Antonio Conservation Society's website https://farmandranch.omeka.net/exhibits/show/blasherreraranch We use Hipcamp to help maintain, preserve, and restore the land my family loves so deeply. We're excited to share it with you and see what all we'll be able to do. Thank you in advance for your support! Coming soon: picnic tables, benches, outdoor cooking area, South Texas Jungle Gym, Pink Elephant Cantina (BYOB), and more! We're a five acre piece of a historic Texas ranch in Southwest San Antonio, just 20-minutes from downtown, sitting along the beautiful Medina River. Slice of paradise
Old Herrera Ranch is a great place to camp. The host, Dax, is very friendly and proud of this piece of paradise that’s been in his family so long. Very peaceful and beautiful. The small beach down at the river has huge cypress trees and is gorgeous. You will also find the old cantina , dance hall and jacals very interesting. Don’t miss out!

Beautiful Property!
The land was beautiful! My family and I camped for 3 days on his property & were the only ones there during that time, which made it extra pleasant. We would definitely camp there again! A few things to note: 1) The only toilet is a compost toilet to be used when going #2 so bring toilet paper if you’re a lady needing to go on a tree. 2) It is near an interstate so bring some noise canceling headphones if you have trouble sleeping with those types of noises. 3) There is a nice big communal campfire area. We ate 4 meals there and it was so pleasant under the trees. 4) There is a “dance hall” where we could charge our phones which was a nice surprise. 5) The creek is an easy walk from the campsite. My kids loved playing in the creek despite it being chillier when we camped.

Old Herrera Ranch - Medina River
Our camping adventure on Dax’s land was nothing short of magical. Being so close to the Medina River allowed us to enjoy numerous refreshing strolls and swims, adding a serene backdrop to our stay. The campsite, with its prime view of the stunning sunsets, featured an impressively large fire ring that became the heart of our evenings. Exploring the property, we were charmed by the quaint old structures and captivated by the enchanting dance hall, which, under the glow of string lights, provided an idyllic setting for night-time revelry. Our experience was delightful, and we're already looking forward to our next visit.

Sweet Ol’ Somerset
Where to begin… This land, Dax… nothing short of incredible. Dax was patient, flexible and one of the kindest host to ever work with. Our 5 day stay turned into about a month! The river was a godsend for our pup and even next to the highway, never once did it bother us. The energy of the property, the daily red cardinals, proximity to town, we couldn’t have asked for anything better, really! So grateful for this place and Dax at a time that made us feel held, happy and so safe. A high recommendation, to say the least… If ever to return to SA, we now have a place to call home.

History, Nature, and Romantic Spot!
Out of the 9 Hipcamp sites I've been to this year, this one is one of the best so far. I thought the land was diverse with upper hill top flat land that overlooks Medina River down below. I loved the history and the historic buildings on this land. I loved the massive cypress trees. This land was very clean and green (Feburary!), perfect for impressive date nights down by the river during the week when there are less people or maybe none at all, plus you can leave the land easily if need be. Arrive early to claim your spot. Also, this land is not totally flat down by the river if you're pitching a tent. So for my diehard overlanding community, this land is more communal and prepared in the since that you can get electric, water, and restroom if you need it. If you visit during busier days, you'll likely camp next to others in relative proximity. This land is not total isolation in nature from the outside world as it is right off the main road that leads you back to 410. You will hear sounds of the passing traffic and potentially from other campers as well at night and during the day. I'm not sure how much of the land you can explore for overlanding, but from what I saw you may not be able to venture that much further away from the main entrance which means you are camping near the main entrance probably less than .25 miles from the entry gate. I think it's still worth checking out to see if it fits what you seek. I had a great time and booked another night upon arrival.
