**Please note that it's $20 per person per night. Small farm and vineyard at Macquarie Plains in the Upper Derwent Valley, southern Tasmania. The property is 380m from the junction of the Lyell Highway and the Gordon River Road. It has 450m absolute river frontage on the River Derwent (no riparian reserve). The river here is freshwater, potable and a renowned trout water, (licence required). Three kilometres from the village of Gretna. 4WD Preferred. 2WD need to assess river access. Campers need all own amenities and leave no trace. Dog friendly but please see rules, we have livestock and so dogs need to be well controlled at all times. Campfires permitted when restrictions aren't in place (see rules around campfires). Due to hydro generation activity, the river may slowly rise or fall up to 1m (often without rain) so please be careful around the water.**Please note that it's $20 per person per night.  Absolute frontage on the River Derwent. Here the river is fresh water and populated by platypus with trout and eels below the surface. Above are seen Sea Eagles, black swans, darters and wild geese plus a multitude of small birds like the welcome swallow, Dusky Wood Swallow, gold and green finches and the Superb Wren. Occasionally good and close sightings are made of the Wedge Tailed Eagle including mating rituals across the river. The river offers exciting kayaking runs and pleasant summer swimming. A riverside Blackwood shades the river bank Fish for brown and rainbow trout, play on the field, or just laze in the hammock above the river's edge, in the shade with a book and surrounded by the sounds of the river and its life. A great base to explore the Derwent and Tyenna valleys from Mt Field to Lake St Clair and into the Western Wilds to Strathgordon. We only have one multi-vehicle site that can take take one booking at a time so you have the whole river paddock to yourselves - no sharing with strangers! The campsite can fit 3+ caravan and car combinations, camper-vans or tents and, say six people per car/camper/caravan plus kids tent. (2 adults and however many kids you have!). If you have friends who wish to join you on a different date, message me and we can make that work. If this doesn’t suit your numbers, message me and we can make it work too!. * UNSUITABLE VEHICLE: At the moment the road down to the river is not suitable for the Cruisin’ Fiat Ducato Camper (or similar), due to its front wheel drive. We are working to make our access road suitable for these large campers. Meanwhile we can accomodate them on higher ground above and 100m from the river. PLEASE NOTE: Pricing is $20 per person, per night. Please select the correct number of guests when booking. Children under 5 years stay free 6 to 12 year olds are half price!

River camping with the animals
The camp-site was fantastic, privacy was great, lovely vines, beautiful river, cows, sheep and horses to admire. Derek was a great host, very friendly and educated us on the grapes on the property. We can't wait to come back! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Ryelands Farm
The most beautiful place to stay. Right on the river all to ourselves. Light a fire at night and a swim in the river made this the best place I have ever stayed. Thankyou Derek for sharing your place

Ryelands Farm & Vineyard Camping
This is our second stay at Ryelands Vineyard. We love the location (right on the river's edge), the serenity and that we don't have to share the site with other campers. Derek is the perfect host. He even delivered a beautiful bowl of freshly picked mulberries for us to enjoy. There were six people and three small camper-trailers in our group and there was plenty of room for everyone. We'll be back.

The site is on the banks of the Derwent river. It is flat and plenty of room. The host Derek is friendly and very knowledgeable about the local area. The river swim was very refreshing in the warmer weather. Picnic tables and fire pit although there was a fire ban locally so couldn’t use it. Great place. Will certainly be back
