McDermit Ranch is a 320 acre working sheep ranch, just 40 minutes north of Regina, Saskatchewan. Open year-round, it has wide open spaces in large pastures and hay fields. There are several aspen and willow bushes to camp beside. Depending on the time of year, you might see the sheep flock graze past your campsite, followed by two big white sheep guardian dogs that live with and protect them! We allow campers to have dogs on a leash in the pastures where the sheep are not grazing. The sunrises and sunsets we get here are often stunning! We offer 20-30 minute guided tours of the ranch, where you can get up close and personal with cute Dorset lambs in the spring. If you come on shearing day (usually the first Saturday in May), you can watch the professional shearers skillfully and gently remove the fleeces off the sheep. Some extras we offer, are lamb chops, sausage and fresh eggs to cook at your campsite or take home with you. We are just 20 to 50 minutes away from several beautiful hiking trails and lakes. Plus, our local town of Southey, six miles away, has a great free spray park for the kids. There is also a nice new Co-op grocery store, gas station/C-store, Subway and two restaurants there.

The Hay Field
What a way to experience a fantastic show of stars in a velvety night sky. We sat outside our RV and looked at so many constellations. We had a great parking spot and our host met us and took us right out to this great place. We could see some sheep but didn't go too close so our dog would not bother them.

The Berry Bush
Jelaine is really welcoming and will personally guide you to your campsite, the place is lovely with open fields, sheep and two big dogs. The sunset was amazing and the sky was full of stars. Also it has the most beautiful outhouse you’ll see, fully equiped and feels like a proper washroom. Would 100% recommend!

Prairie Heaven on a sheep ranch!
Idylic and quiet, the perfect private camp site. We enjoyed watching the ever changing prairie skies. It was a thrill for us to tour the farm and meet the sheep and and the sheep dogs. Jelaine is a wonderful host, so generous with her explanations of the day to day operation of a sheep ranch. Just wait till you visit the elegant outhouse, so clean and thoughtfully well designed! Her Hay Field campsite is a rare treat. We are already planning our next retreat.

My aunt and I are traveling across western Canada and on our way we stumbled upon Jelaine’s property. We couldn’t be happier about it! She was very accommodating and very sweet. The place she let us tent was a beautiful field, had a complementary fireplace, chairs and firewood. We were able to watch an amazing sunset and the outhouse that was right around the corner was very clean! We were very impressed! And don’t even get me started on the sausages! I would highly recommend staying at the McDermitts property it was lovely!
