From scenic lookouts to the remnants of a WWII bomber, the park offers a unique blend of cultural and natural attractions. Campers can revel in the serenity of bush camping, with fire-rings provided for a traditional experience amid the park's eastern slopes and subtropical rainforests.

Notable campgrounds

  • Griffiths Creek camping area - Accessible by conventional vehicles in dry conditions, offering a traditional bush camping experience.
  • Razorback camping area - A high-clearance 4WD haven, perfect for campers seeking a remote and rugged escape in dry weather.

Tips for snagging a campsite

  • Book early to secure your spot, as camping areas in Kroombit Tops are limited and can fill up quickly during peak seasons.
  • Check the park alerts for any closures or restrictions that might affect campground availability.
  • Be flexible with your dates, as mid-week stays may offer better availability than weekends.
  • Explore nearby camping options to maximise your chances of finding a site during busy times.

When to go

The best time to visit Kroombit Tops National Park is during the cooler months from April to September. The weather is more pleasant for hiking and camping, and the risk of flash flooding is lower. Summer months can be quite hot and wet, making access roads slippery and potentially impassable.

Know before you go

  • Check the latest park alerts for any access restrictions, especially during wet conditions when roads can become impassable.
  • Bring enough water for drinking, cooking, and cleaning, as well as a portable stove to reduce fire danger.
  • Mobile phone coverage is limited, so consider bringing a satellite phone or personal locator beacon for emergencies.
  • Be mindful of wildlife and practice safe food storage to protect both yourself and the animals.
  • Respect the park's cultural heritage, including the WWII bomber crash site, by leaving it as you found it.
