Aloomba Lavender Farm

65 sites · RVs, Tents24 acres · NSW
Welcome to Aloomba Lavender Farm. We offer bush camping with powered and unpowered sites. This means you will not be placed very close to other vans unless you are friends and choose to be together. In many cases you will be able to choose where you wish to park. Not all sites are level, but you are able to site your camp/ van as you wish. There are no cement pads. There is access to toilets and hot showers. You may have to walk some distance to the amenities but the solitude, the quiet, safety and stars make all worthwhile. There is a dedicated firepit and firewood is supplied. We can supply no water other than sufficient to cook dinner. You are welcome to use some of the vegetables and herbs but not to strip the vegetable garden! If in doubt - ask. We have great coffee and Devonshire teas but we are not a cafe. However there is a great little lavender shop where you can buy our own lavender essential oil, or a cake of soap or a Baggallini Handbag. We are dog friendly! We welcome well behaved dogs. We are 20 km from Stanthorpe. You may see wildlife or cattle through the fence and an occasional vehicle going down the road. We have a sealed road all the way to our boundary and then drive through the lavender. If you visit in late November through to early December you will enjoy our lavender flowering, but the plants look very pretty all year around in neat rows. We are a commercial farm so there is the need to work to the rhythm of the lavender.

Stonepine Ridge 'where eagles fly'

40 sites · RVs, Tents2000 acres · Willsons Downfall, NSW
Space, scenic views, a series of mountain bike tracks to test your skills, abundant wildlife, peace and quiet. Mountain biking only? Book a campsite for the day. These best describe this 754 hectare (1864 acres) property. Stonepine Ridge is 'remote' - your camp sites are away from any dwellings - but you are still close enough to country towns across borders. Map to get here ( https://stonepineridge.com.au/map/ ) There is plenty of space for social distancing. Most camp sites are 50 or more metres apart. The terrain is mostly treed with some cleared, pastured country. On the border with the Queensland town of Stanthorpe, Stonepine Ridge is close to the historic areas of Willsons Downfall and Amosfield in New South Wales. Home to many rivers that traverse the property from top to bottom, the Boonoo Boonoo and Bookookookarara rivers and Undercliffe and Boonoo Boono Falls are close by and are popular sites to spend a few hours walking/hiking and immersing yourself in the ambient countryside. The Boonoo Boonoo and Bald rock National Parks are also within this area. The beautiful New England town of Tenterfield is about 20 minutes drive from the falls and offers visitors many shopping and restaurant options. Be sure to stop en route to visit the World War 2 tank traps - (Australia's Maginot Line) and Thunderbolt's hideout. A short drive across the border into Queensland will give you access to the Girraween National Park and a host of wineries, coffee shops, restaurants and pubs. At Stonepine Ridge, some areas of the top country are accessible by 2WD when not wet but high suspension and 4wheel drive vehicles are recommended. This camping property is large and you will find no better place that allows for gentle as well as more advanced walking, hiking and mountain biking. The altitude on the property varies from 900m at the top down to 50m to the bottom. The temperature is variable with mostly cool nights, which makes for restful sleep and a nice fire to add to the ambience.

Binghi Station

26 sites · RVs, Tents4000 acres · NSW
Binghi Station Located approximately 4.5hours from Brisbane, Queensland, or 1.5 hour drive west of Tenterfield, New South Wales. Binghi Station, once a large sheep station, was a thriving tin and gem mine from the late 1800 to mid 1900. Set on 4,000 acres of natural granite rock country and untouched overgrowth of lush tea tree bushlands, the sheer beauty of the land will, without a doubt, leave you breathless of its raw natural beauty. Binghi Station surrendered to the ravaging bush fires of 2019, however, after this devastation came some much needed rainfall which brought hope; the creation of new life in the form of rich, vibrant green country not seen since the 1980’s. You can explore endlessly on this raw outback property. Discover secret hideouts, come and enjoy a swim under our flowing waterfall (for those brave enough to during the winter months!) and simply relax and soak in pure wildlife beneath a million stars in the night sky. We strongly recommend access by 4WD only as the entry 6klm driveway is rugged and very bumpy in most places due to heavy rain fall past 12 months. Please ask for more details if necessary should you have any concerns based on your equipment. Its an ongoing maintenance. The Secret Gorge site is suited to swags, tents and camper trailers. It is not suited for Caravans over 15' due to a tight corner. Other site locations are suited to off-road 4WD caravans and camper trailers. Binghi Station - an extraordinary place to make some truly wonderful family memories. :-)

The best camping near Girraween National Park guide

Overview

About

A popular national park just 26 kilometres south of the country town of Stanthorpe, Girraween offers more than 30 kilometres of walking trails to choose from. Adventurous hikers like the climb to the top of the 1,112-metre Pyramids, which requires some rock scrambling up a vertical incline and results in a reward of commanding views over the park. A giant granite boulder perched at a ridiculously precarious angle is arguably the park’s most famous attraction. Girraween is an Aboriginal word meaning “place of flowers”—in spring, wildflowers bloom all around the park.

When to go

In the hot months of January and February, be prepared to walk earlier in the morning or later in the day to avoid the heat. Temperatures can hit 32°C (90°F) midday, when the sun’s reflection on the granite surfaces make it even hotter. In the spring months of September and October, native pea flowers (bush peas) create vibrant splashes of pink, orange, and purple throughout the park. Weekends are always busy, but winter wind gusts can make the park’s popular climbs too dangerous to attempt. In July and August, you may see frost or occasional snow on the ground.

Know before you go

  • Girraween's granite rocks can become very slippery when wet and should not be climbed in damp conditions.
  • The climb to the Pyramids should only be done in hiking boots with good grip.
  • Most walks start from Bald Rock Creek Camping Area, so if you’re time poor, this is the best place to start.
  • In dry conditions, wildlife can be found on the edge of the road seeking food, so please be aware and drive carefully.
