Barron River Getaway at Kuranda

4 sites · RVs, Tents50 acres · Kuranda, QLD
Surrounded by 40,000 acres of world heritage rainforest, 15 minutes outside the village of Kuranda, you will camp next to the mighty Barron River. This place is totally private and you have access to a sandy beach where swimming is safe and completely secluded. It's a great place for kayaking and stand up paddle boarding. There is a 360 degree view from the property, with nothing made by man in the way. When we purchased this property 37 years ago and built our unique home, it was denuded cattle land, and now we are surrounded by the most beautiful rainforest. We planted approximately 8000 trees.! We have 4 sites available all close to the river, and can provide water as well as access to our toilet. We are agile wallaby carers, with the rescued joeys being released back into the forest from here. After a day of kayaking or hiking or exploring the area we also offer a sunset massage (as available ) by a local masseuse who lives on the property. Watch the stars in the night sky at your own campfire.

The best camping near Barron Gorge National Park guide

Overview

About

Embark on an adventure through Barron Gorge National Park, a tropical haven of steep gorges and cascading waterfalls. Explore the lush rainforest canopy from elevated boardwalks, marvel at the mighty Barron Falls, or glide above the treetops on the Skyrail Rainforest Cableway. While camping is not available within the park, nearby Speewah Conservation Park offers camping facilities.

When to go

The best time to visit Barron Gorge National Park is during the dry season from May to October, when the weather is cooler and less humid. The wet season, from November to April, can bring heavy rains and cyclones, making some areas inaccessible and reducing visibility of the falls.

Know before you go

  • Check park alerts for any closures or warnings, including crocodile sightings, before your visit.
  • Ensure you have a good level of fitness for the walking tracks, which can be steep and uneven.
  • Wear sturdy footwear and carry plenty of water, especially in the hotter months.
  • Be mindful of the park's natural environment; take trash with you and stay on designated paths.
  • Respect the cultural significance of the park to the Traditional Owners, the Djabugay people.
