Rustic tent site with fire pit, firewood, picnic table, and outhouse. It is a very secluded and quiet site surrounded by birches, spruce, a young maple stand, and some cute fledgling pines. There's open space to the south with sight-lines toward Frenchmans and Flanders Bay. To the north, east, and west, there's about 70 acres of tree-growth with some old logging trails to casually bushwhack if you feel it. There's a glacial erractic (big big boulder) not terribly far from the site. Please note that it is possible to get lost if you go deep (though unlikely). There is proper hiking throughout the area, not least of which is Acadia National Park and Lamoine State Park. But there are hikes even closer. Long Ledges is just a couple miles up the road (off Punkinville, right by the high school). And these trails are ambitious, even connect up all the way to Schoodic Mountain, which in addition to being a great hike on its own, is surrounded by Donnell Pond and Tunk Lake. Further trails throughout and amongst the State Preserve are great. Swim, fish (get a license before doing so), boat (plenty of public landings around to put in a kayak), hangout. Biking is probably best on the carriage roads of Acadia, which are island-side on MDI, or over at Schoodic in Winter Harbor (make a loop starting at Frazier Point). Sullivan has a stretch of the sunrise trail, which is an ATV trail, and which is billed as bike friendly but it's not super great for tires narrower than mountain bikes. Go eat seafood at Tracy's, less than a mile up the road. Eat some ice cream at Shanahan's Sweet Retreat. Dunbar's Store has a good beer selection, carries an assortment of food stuffs including some vegan options-variety is the spice of life. Young's Market has breakfast Sammy's, coffee, pizza, cigs, fuel. Check out our 70 acres in tree-growth with some old logging trails. Casually bushwhack on if you feel it. There's a glacial erratic not terribly far from the site. Please note that it is possible to get lost, though unlikely! Please be courteous and respectful of the land and neighbors. Please be mindful that the Maine region is in moderate drought. Pick up after yourselves. Listen for the wildlife, look before speaking. Enjoy! DO NOT BRING YOUR OWN FIREWOOD! Again, DO NOT BRING YOUR OWN FIREWOOD. There is firewood on site.Rustic tent site with fire pit, firewood, picnic table, and outhouse. Rustic Maine Camping
Beautiful remote campsite about an hour outside of Bar Harbor, 1/2 hour from Schoodic Point. A good option if Acadia is booked up, or if you are looking to have a little more privacy than the park campgrounds. Has a fire pit, picnic table, and pit toilet nearby. There is also a firewood pile on site (under a tarp) and water buckets for putting out the fire (though you might still want a bundle of dry wood to get things going as the mornings can be a bit damp). There are a few other campsites nearby, but they are spaced well enough that it's not too bad. We could hear the closer one, but you are nowhere near as packed as in Acadia proper where you are 20 feet from other campers. You can definitely hear highway 1 well into the night.

Rustic Maine Camping
Back for a second year with our small camper, we appreciated this quiet spot in a field and this year, the new fire pit and the stack of wood was a great addition. We seek out places with few amenities because we like real camping and this site allows us to easily discover new Downeast trails and outdoor assets!

You gotta see this
Absolutely stunning piece of land. Me and my dogs had a quick trip and stayed at this site. It was clean, quiet, and felt like being in the backwoods (with the perk of an outhouse) would absolutely recommend staying here

Rustic Maine Camping
We enjoyed our time in George's land! There were plenty of places near by for us to visit and hike. The view from the camp site was beautiful and there was plenty of space for our doggo to run around! We did meet the neighbors who were very nice, there was another group camping near by though that were a bit loud at night. Not our hosts fault but something to note that you may be in ear shot of others.

Rustic Maine Camping
Quiet, secluded rustic experience
I enjoyed the rustic experience on George’s land! The land is beautiful and is quiet, secluded, and exactly what I was looking for trying to escape the hoards of loud people at Acadia. I would recommend staying here if you’re interested in having a quiet getaway, but aren’t afraid of the rustic experience (no showers or real bathrooms).
Location
