Back to the basics, come and experience Tar River Life’s primitive camping on the Tar River. Enjoy being on the river and listening to slow running sound of the Tar River. Bring your own tent or rent one of ours. You can drive your vehicle to all of our campsites. The drive to camp is about 1/2 miles. Each site includes a fire pit, wood and trash bin. Cook your own meals or try and catch your own fish from the river. Campsites can be secluded or grouped. Each site comes with a picnic table, 1 bundle of wood and trash can. Stay for a night or longer period of time, come and enjoy the outdoors with us. We have lots of walking trails, fishing access, wildlife, kayaking and tubing (must be purchased through us). 2WD vehicles are ok except during wet conditions. There is also the Vollmer Farm, with seasonal produce a Full Coffee Shop with breakfast goodies and baked goods and not to mention their fabulous ice cream. They have goods from around NC including, eggs, honey, meats, beers, wine and more. There is a grocery store (Food Lion) about 15 minutes away. So you can stock up on supplies on your way to your next adventure. We are pet friendly!

Tar River Tent Camping (Max 6 Tent)
A lovely spot for a birthday
This was a great spot for a large gathering. There was some flooding of the campsites due to some rain the last few days and they put us in a spot away from the river and it was perfect. They provided a clean Porto potty with toilet paper, firewood and trash. They checked in on us to see if we needed any more firewood. Also some nearby grocery stores and restaurants for easy meals.

Camping in March
Staying at this location is a lot of fun. I stayed with my son and my friend and his son. Everything is organized and the sites are ready for your arrival. Our location had a picnic table which is great for sitting containers on and preparing food. We had plenty of space to set out tents up. They provide you with firewood but you can pay to have a little bit more stacked for longer fires. We had great weather, no rain and was in the 50s as we slept. The spot is right beside the river so you can fish right there at your camp spot. I would like to plan to camp there again hopefully in April or May. There is a small shop nearby you can always get breakfast from too [coffee and breakfast sandwiches] but may need to drive back out onto the road to get to. Highly recommend.

Great time!
Great location and campsite. Hosts were very helpful. Complementary firewood was great and we really enjoyed the short walk to the farm stand for coffee and breakfast!

This was a great site and we will definitely be back! The site was roomy and secluded. The view was great. We could hear lots of wildlife at night.

Tar River Tent Camping(1-3 tents)
Perfect getaway!
We absolutely loved staying at Tar River Life with Nikki and Mann! It was beautiful, especially with the fall foliage. The campsite was clean and scenic with the lake right beside us, perfect for kayaking. The fire was already made when we pulled in (since we were running a bit late), which was unexpected and so appreciated. We stayed in one of their large tent accommodations that came prepared at the site and it made the entire trip!!! The tent was large enough to stand in and it could have fit over 6 people. The tent had a wonderful skylight to view the stars and windows on all sides for air flow and added views. It even rained both the nights we stayed and the tent protected us from the wet and cold. Our site was very private and the few other campers we saw were very friendly. All of this, for such a good price made it one of our favorite camping experiences ever!!!
