Medicine Tail Coulee Camp
I stayed for two nights. I loved it. The site was on the Little Bighorn River, where the Cheyenne had been camping when Custer attacked. The battlefield is a three minute drive. Birdie was a delightful host.

Medicine Tail Coulee Camp
Special Location on Little Bighorn
Incredible location to camp. Right on the bank of the Little Bighorn River at the mouth of Medicine Tail Coulee. This was the exact place where the Northern Cheyenne contingent of the Souix/Cheyenne camped the morning of June 25, 1876 when Gen. George Armstrong Custer and his troops attacked.
The ingress road is hard to find but we were met at the entrance by the hostess, Birdie, who showed us where to camp. She was very helpful and explained the layout of the site. There are horses and cows that occasionally pass through the area along with a couple of friendly local dogs. We greatly enjoyed our stay, particularly the peace and quiet of the location and the historical significance of the site. It only takes about 5 min to reach the Little Bighorn Battlefield from this location. The site has several porta potties but no picnic tables.

Medicine Tail Coulee Camp
We stayed on one of the busiest days of the season on the anniversary of the Battle of Little Bighorn (which coincided with a Pow Wow then and now of tribes in the region). We actually found this site because our trip was without planning and local motels were booked or their rates rather high. Recent atypical hard rains also sent the river to its banks as well which affected the usual campsites; but Birdie was an awesome host and let us use one of the tipees. Since Birdie's property is on the site of the tribal encampment of the Battle of Little Bighorn; it was amazing to be able to link to that hisotry.

Exactly what Hipcamp should be
Awesome place. Host meet us, showed us around, and gave us the history. Camped right next to the river were we watched wildlife and horses come up to drink. Kids had a blast.
