Surrounded by 1,000s of acres of state land just across the street, this is the perfect location for your outdoor getaway! There are dozens of amazing lakes nearby, too! Don't forget your ORVs, hunting gear, fishing poles, snowmobiles, boats, jet skis, kayaks, golf clubs, & the dogs! There is no shortage of outdoor activities to do when you're staying at the Kozy Kabin! You'll have full access to the entire Kozy Kabin, minus the utility closet in the bathroom. If for any reason you need to access the electric panel in there, we are only 10 minutes away to come unlock it. The shed in the backyard does have a lock on it, and the key is hanging on the coat hook for use. There are 1,000s of acres of state land directly across the street, great for hunting & exploring. The ORV trailhead is at the end of the street with some of the best trails for ATV's, dirt bikes, UTV's and snowmobiles. You can ride directly from the Kozy Kabin to the trails. There should be plenty of room to park your truck/trailer and additional cars in the driveway as well. Please do not ride in the yard, keep it on the trails. If there is any sign of riding in the yard, there will be an additional charge to your stay to repair the lawn. Other things to note: We do not currently have WiFi at the Kozy Kabin, but you are able to hook up the TV to a hotspot to use the smart TV/roku features. Most cell providers get good service here. There is no smoking or vaping inside of the Kozy Kabin, but you are welcome to smoke outside. Please do not dispose of cigarette butts on the ground. If there are any signs of smoking inside there will be an additional cleaning charge to your stay. Dogs are always welcome, but please clean up after them. There is a designated poop shovel in or near the shed. Please do not leave any land mines in the yard, but the woods is fine!

O Me, O Mio

1 site · Lodging1 acre · Mio, MI
A rustic, permalog style cabin that is suited to accommodate up to nine. This is a cabin to help disconnect from the hustle and bustle of our chaotic lives. There is limited cell signal, no internet and no local or cable channels. The cabin is pet friendly, as I believe our pets are an extension of our families and should get to vacation with everyone rather than boarded (dogs only are allowed). Primary source of heat is a propane wall furnace. There is an electric fireplace in the living room. In the summer there is a window AC unit at the cabin and a fan for the loft (it does get hot up there). The cabin is very close (1/4 mile) to the AuSable River where you can easily launch boats, canoes and more. The ORV trail head is just a 1/4 mile down the road. This is also the perfect cabin for hunting, fishing, hiking and trail riding. Be sure to keep an eye out for an eagle or two. Also had deer tracks in the yard.

Camping near Alpena guide

Overview

Leave it to the lakeside vacation town of Alpena to serve up the best of Lake Huron. Hugging the shores of Thunder Bay, this Michigan town is a mecca for water activities like kayaking, fishing, and boating. Onshore, historic lighthouses and state forest treks ignite your adventurer's spirit.

Thanks to Alpena's healthy influx of tourists, Northwoods camping is easy to find. Make your home base in one of the state parks, county parks, or RV parks. You can even pitch a tent at the Alpena County Fairgrounds.

If you want to catch your dinner, head to Long Lake County Park. Besides excellent walleye fishing, the lake also has waterfront campsites and some great swimming holes. A short drive inland brings you to Ossineke State Forest. The rustic sites here are the envy of hardcore tent campers.

Once you're settled in, rent a boat (or bring your own) to explore the Lake Huron shoreline. Are you looking for more adventure? Hop on the Thunder Bay River for a day of kayaking or canoeing. Paddling gear can be rented at a local canoe livery. Hint—the Alpena Wildlife Sanctuary along the river is a great birding spot.

Alpena is a true wilderness paradise in Michigan. As a result, parks here are in high demand—it's not uncommon to see campsites for July filling up by January. If you want to camp in the summer or fall, booking early is a must.

Want to escape the crowds? Don't throw out the idea of a winter trip. You can always retreat to a heated cabin after a day of cross-country skiing or ice fishing.
