Our "Off Grid" campsite is nestled in the midst of a mini-Rainbow Eucalyptus Rainforest, with native Ohia trees sparsely located throughout our property. Hapu'u Ferns are also within our mini-Rainbow Eucalyptus Rainforest. Enjoy the stunning 90 - 100 degree ocean views of Hawaii Island's Western Coastline, as well as the new Volcanic Vent (Known as Fissure 8) created by the 2018 Eruption of the Kileaua Volcano. The Hawaii Volcano National Park (HVNP) is a 14 mile or 20 minute drive from our campsite. HVNP has a visitor's center to get information about the park, hiking trails throughout its boundaries, steam vents and the awe-inspiring caldera, which is the location of the volcano's lava pool. At night, the glow from the lava in the caldera can be seen at the park. Our campsite is also an 18 mile or 29 minute drive from the Hilo International Airport and the town of Hilo, Hawaii.Experience relaxing and enjoying in your own private cabin. You'll be nestled amongst the apple banana plants, citrus and guava trees, and a mini rain forest of Rainbow Eucalyptus trees, Giant ferns, and many other species of flora. Enjoy the sights and sounds of this tranquil tiny cabin location in the tropics, alive with the beautiful, lulling sounds of the Cocqui Frogs, star filled and moonlit skies. Be marveled by the quick wit of the homestead's Muscovy ducks. As the cabin's namesake suggests, our Muscovy ducks are as tropical and cute as can be. The cabin bedroom sleeps 2 campers in a full sized bed. The 2 additional campers can either sleep on the lanai, in the kitchen area, or tent (camper's own tent or rented tent from hosts). The lanai can accommodate 1 cot and the kitchen can accomadte 2 cots (campers own cots or rented cots from hosts).

The Tropical Duck
amazing experience!
My family and I had such a relaxing stay here. We loved waking up to the ducks greeting us and falling asleep to the birds and tropical sounds. It was a very peaceful stay after being in a resort all week. Despite it being a rustic cabin, the bed was very comfortable and kitchen was fully equipped with all necessary cooking supplies. Christopher was very friendly, and we loved hearing about his experiences living around volcano country! Will definitely return next time we visit the island.

The Tropical Duck
The ducks are fantastic greeting and following us around. I enjoyed feeding them. The cabin is really a glampiing (glamorous) experience. And to top it all Esther and Christopher are very friendly, very hospitable hosts. We had a quite great conversation. She’s also suggested the local popular eateries around the area. Awesome place, awesome people, awesomely ducks!

Cozy and Perfect
Oh my gosh what a perfect stay. Chris and Esther are the nicest people ever and make you feel so welcome and cared for. The thought they’ve put into their lil guest house is awesome and honestly we didn’t want to leave lol the ducks are so cute and Esther even offered us limes from her tree. The bedroom windows are screened so you sleep like a baby in the cool air and the sounds of nature. The night sky was incredible and the location was only a few minutes from the national park. It actually did feel like a home away from home and you physically cannot be stressed while staying with them. We’re already trying to figure out how to get back and stay again lol

The Tropical Duck
The most gracious hosts I have experienced with hipcamp so far. Attentative to the max and overall wonderful human beings. They accommodated us over and over and over again and really made our stay feel like we were with family. Location is perfect visiting the volcano national Park and wanting to get off the grid while still having life's luxuries.

The Tropical Duck
Absolutely recommend staying here! It’s a very cozy tiny house. Chris and Esther are wonderful hosts. They met us when we arrived and provided a little tour guide. The ducks are super cute – you can feed them with the food provided by the host and even pet them while they are eating! 😁 Hot water, comfy bed, kitchen, coffee, growing bananas, lots of stars!
