At Howe Ranch, we provide more than just a farm stay; we offer a healing, transformative experience that teaches relaxation and rejuvenation through profound connections with our gentle, trained farm animals. Experience the magic of immersion in the farm world of our residents—from mini cows to white donkeys, mini goats, ducks, chickens, lop bunnies, and even a barn tomcat. These animals are ambassadors of modern farming and healers in their own right. Among them is our Scottish long-haired mini cow, Buttercup, who has a remarkable ability to connect with children on the autism spectrum, offering them moments of joy and tranquility. Buttercup, along with his calf friend Flint, also provides comfort to visitors dealing with anxiety and stress. Whether it’s hugging or grooming Buttercup, meditating with him and Flint, or engaging in one-on-one sessions with our gentle goats and chickens, every interaction is designed to soothe and inspire. Proceeds from HipCamp directly support the feed and care for our farm animals, of which most are rescues (501c and private). INCLUDED IN YOUR FARM STAY: Personalized evening and morning farm animal encounters with animal feeding and care routines, unique learning experiences and opportunities to relax with the gentle barn animals, organic chicken and duck eggs for breakfast, a restroom, free use of outdoor kitchen with moderate use of propane stove, BYO charcoal grilling on the BBQ with utensils available, dish washing capabilities, free use of camping equipment (pop up canopy, chairs) and entertainment for the whole family, a safe space for children to play in with toys and games in the large sand pit, panoramic views, and access to "Extras" such as electric and water hookups, hot tup, extra parking, and breakfast. The overnight farm stay experience is generally available from Friday 1:00 p.m. until Saturday 1:00 p.m. on limited weekends of the year. If you would like to visit with us for longer or during the week, please inquire first if we have the capacity to accommodate. The camp is typically not available on Saturdays after 1:00 p.m. due to other community activities and engagements of the hosts. Located on a rural off the grid property near the Deep Creek Hot Springs, this 160 acre property is the perfect place to escape the city and immerse yourself in nature. Nestled in the mountains of the high desert, come camp and enjoy yourself in a peaceful setting where beautiful natural desert scenery and mountain views surround you. The natural high desert landscape of junipers, joshua trees, chaparral and sages, combined with the nearby San Bernardino mountains in the background, create an amazing 360* view from just about anywhere on our land. This private homestead property is located 6 miles off the pavement, just far enough to escape the sounds and lights of the city, and is surrounded by 1,000's of acres of undeveloped government managed lands. The natural rural setting creates a serene atmosphere on the property that allows one to easily relax and recharge. You can set up your own tent and campsite or rent one of our furnished glamping tents to stay in when you come to visit. Have a special event coming up or just want to celebrate? Check out our private hot spring pool sites and private cold spring pool sites we have available for up to 300 guests. There is plenty of activities nearby to keep yourself occupied, such as nature watching right on the property, or exploring numerous hiking and ohv trails just off the property. With the trailhead starting on the property, the Deep Creek Hot Springs is just a short hike away, and well worth the effort, with nearby fishing and gold panning along the creek as well. Deep Creek flows all year around, and the 6 creek-side hot spring pools are always full and consistently hot all year around, ranging in temperatures between 90F-108F. The hike to the Deep Creek Hot Springs is steep in places and can be fairly difficult for some people, especially in warm weather. In order to be prepared with the correct gear to make this hike and know the USFS rules that apply to the area, please educate yourself before coming by visiting the USFS website page for the Deep Creek area. Know before you go! *Although children are permitted to be on the property, we do not recommend bringing them due to occasional nudity that may be seen in the area and the degree of difficulty of the hike. The hike to the hot springs is fairly difficult and everyone’s physical fitness needs to be considered when deciding to take children, elderly people, or over-weight people.

The cold creek water in the Deep Creek canyon flows all year around, and the 6 creek-side hot spring pools are always full and consistently hot all year around, ranging in temperatures between 90F-108F. The hike to the Deep Creek Hot Springs is fairly steep and can be difficult for some people, especially in warm weather. Camping near Pomona guide

Overview

For nature excursions in the Los Angeles area, Pomona is an ideal basecamp. The city sits at the foot of the San Gabriel Mountains, just a 30-minute drive from the range and the surrounding Angeles National Forest’s crisp air, alpine hiking, waterfalls, and summit bagging. West of town are classic SoCal beaches with surf, sunsets, and soft brown sand, while those who head east will reach the Mojave Desert wonderland of Joshua Tree National Park. Come winter, you can even ski and cabin camp outside of Pomona at Big Bear Lake.

Where to go

Pomona Surrounds

Camping destinations around Pomona include the Frank G. Bonelli Regional Park in San Dimas, home to trails and lakes, and Chino Hills State Park, which features over 90 miles of hiking, biking, and equestrian trails through Southern California chaparral and sage scrub. RV campers can book spots at RV parks and RV resorts in Pomona and nearby San Bernardino, many with full hookups, free wifi, and other amenities.

San Gabriel Mountains

The San Gabriel Mountains are practically Pomona’s backyard with numerous hiking trailheads, including one to the summit of the 10,064-foot Mount Baldy. The surrounding Angeles National Forest also has many scenic driving routes.

Big Bear Lake

Further east of Pomona in the San Bernardino Mountains, Big Bear Lake is an awesome year-round escape from the city. At 6,752 feet of elevation, the lake is a prime spot to beat the summer heat or hit the ski resorts for a snowy winter getaway.

Pacific Beaches

West of Pomona, the Pacific coast beaches of Orange County, Los Angeles, and Malibu are world famous. For beach camping, check out Crystal Cove State Park and Leo Carrillo State Park, both home to beach campsites with picnic tables, showers, restrooms, and dump stations.

Joshua Tree

Joshua Tree National Park is about two hours east of Pomona. With incredible rock formations, otherworldly flora, and high definition stargazing, this desert playground is an incredibly popular destination from Pomona.

When to go

The Pomona area is good for camping year-round. Winter has the highest likelihood of cold weather and rain, but is an excellent time for desert camping. Spring visitors may find running waterfalls and blooming flowers. Summers can get hot with poor air quality in the valleys, but the beaches and mountains usually offer a cooler, cleaner reprieve.
