The Ponderosa
A true rustic paradise
Almost too much to review! The property is tucked off of Highway 95/93 far enough to make you feel secluded yet still somewhat in civilization. The campsites are rustic but well groomed. Ours was exceptionally large and quite level. The sites are separated enough to maintain privacy. The hosts have used felled trees as well as creative natural fencing to segregate one site from another. There are two port-a-potties that have been cladded to appear as authentic out houses. A tree of knowledge carved by the host contains a small
Library accessible to campers. This camping experience at Ponderosa was exactly what we needed for our first camping experience in Canada. The hosts are an amazing couple with extensive knowledge of the area and a deep love for nature! I cannot say enough good things about this camp or its hosts! We are already planning a return trip to visit this amazing location. And I almost forgot, there is an amazing hike on a “Bunny Trail” to a spiritual overlook of the Kootenay River.

5 Star camping
Bernie and Stewart were the most hospitable and kind camp hosts I’ve met. They made our first night in BC one to remember. I would 100% recommend staying at their campsite. Thank you Stewart and Bernie!

Helpful hosts. Clean & quiet. 12/10
Hosts are above and beyond! Campsite is clean and quiet, nestled in pines, with creek sounds below. Close to Lussier Hot Springs. Thanks Berny and Stuart for your local knowledge and tip top Huckleberry Pie!

The Hideout
Best Hipcamp Experience Yet
This is a must visit Hipcamp if you’re passing through. Their property is incredibly beautiful, the 20min walk to the overlook was one of the best views we’ve seen. The cinnamon buns were amazing, they brought potable water down for us to fill up with, and Berny even went out of her way to bring down a big fresh Elk bone they had just finished carving up for our dog to chew on. A perfect experience and we’ll certainly be back when we’re in the area again.
