UVA sports complex is only 30 minutes away and your able to go the back way in to skip the gridlock of the traffic. Arcadia Sanctuary

Arcadia is the name we gave to our 83-acre mountainside retreat center for Earth-Based Spirituality. It’s nestled on the south-eastern slope of 4000-foot Mount Pleasant in Central Virginia, convenient to I81. (Note, there is a town called Arcadia off I81, but that is not us. Not to confuse.) We have a mountain creek with waterfalls, towering Beech and Sycamore trees, Witch Hazels leaning over the water, trout, crayfish, snakes, salamanders, and all the rest. We have about 2000 feet of the vertical mountainside with trails to explore. (But the stage and most of the camping is down closer to creek-level.) There are more sites higher up the mountain if you like more isolated camping. More of a trek to the bathrooms/showers/freshwater. We have one of the finest private stages on the East Coast with a top-notch sound system and a natural amphitheater which is like a single pie wedge of a Stadium that has regular live performances throughout the spring, summer, and fall. Our yurt is regularly booked as a unique glamping experience. There are chickens, ducks, turkeys, and guinea fowl free-roaming. Two dogs, nine cats, and several humans are blessed to call this home.

Camp Cove Creek

Camp Cove Creek is located in rural Faber, Virginia which is 20 minutes from Charlottesville in beautiful Nelson County. In addition to the many natural features like the Blue Ridge Parkway, Appalachian Trail and the James River, Nelson is home to Wintergreen Resort and Oakridge Estate and hosts events such as the Lok'n Festival, Camp Jeep, and Overland Expo. Camp Cove Creek was originally part of the my grandparent's Waveland Farm. Originally situated on over 600 acres, the brick antebellum house across the hill was used as a hospital in the Civil War. The camp used to be a horse and cattle farm as well as a flea market and airport with grass airstrip when my Mom owned the land. Our vegetable Garden was by the swimming hole. The airstrip is the future home of Faber Christmas Tree Farm. Camp Cove Creek is easily accessible via Rt 29 and Rt 6 east (Irish Road). Our property sits at the confluence of Bear and Cove Creeks where wading is permitted and encouraged (with water shoes). We are continually trying to improve the site by removing old barbed wire, poison ivy, and invasive plant species in addition to planting Christmas Trees, raising 3 kids, and working 2 full time jobs so please forgive our works in progress. Enter at the site we still call the Flea Market (1980's use of the hilltop). This is the top of our 12 acre camping playground. 4wd vehicles are welcomed to drive "the dirt loop" clockwise and camp anywhere along it or the creeks bordering it. The loop is bordered by Irish Road to the south and creek bottoms to the west and north. We encourage walking the route first as it has intentionally been left primitive to provide more of an authentic and fun getaway adventure. Adventures do tend to scratch paint no matter how tough the ceramic coating is so enter at your own risk! Nearby in the soapstone mining town of Schuyler you can visit the home place of Earl Hamner, best known for his creation of The Waltons TV show. While you're there check out the Waltons Mountain Museum, which happens to be my old elementary school and my parent's former high school. The dam bridge in Schuyler is pretty cool too!

It's a wonderful opportunity to disconnect from screens and reconnect with those around you. It is surrounded by nature with a gravel road running along one side of the property and a stream running along the other. The yurt is the perfect balance between comfort and camping. There's electricity, mini-frig and coffee maker, actual beds for sleeping, and plenty of space indoors to spread out for a meal or play a board game. However, please note there's NO running water so bring your own for drinking and washing dishes used. Fans are used for cooling the yurt in the summer months; there is no AC. There are plenty of outdoor adventures to be had nearby including Saint Mary's Wilderness (personal favorite!), Crabtree Falls, White Rock Falls, and Goshen Pass Natural Area Preserve. Also worth noting is Rockbridge Vineyard & Brewery is just 3 miles away!

Bring your own linens, blankets, pillows, or towels as we do not provide those. • RV Sites Our RV sites can accommodate any size of camper. We offer full hookup 50/30 amp, water, and electric 50/30 amp, pull-through, and back-in sites. All sites have gravel pads, picnic tables, a fire ring, and Wifi. Most sites have complimentary digital cable TV. • Tent Sites We have several tenting options for small to large groups. Creekside sites for up to 8 people and backcountry sites for up to 100.
