Owl Tree Acres - Sunflower Cabin
5 sites · RVs, Tents10 acres · Hollister, NCWe discovered this farm while searching for hunting land for my husband.
As we drove onto the property, a flock of wild turkeys ran across the driveway and I knew we would be hooked.
The family that loved this property before us had a long and wonderful history of farming here and we are still in contact with them today.
My (Gail) own family history is firmly rooted in this and surrounding counties so it felt like home as soon as we explored the barns on the property.
Jonathan and I fell in love at first site, although there was a lot of work to be done.
After almost 3 years of renovation and restoration, we are ready to share what we have done and are doing to make this farm a loving and learning adventure for all who visit.

We have 3 tent campsites on various areas of the farm. There is a large central fire pit area, bath house and game areas available to all campers. The tent campers will use only the central fire pit area which has easy access to electricity and the bathhouse. If you choose to pitch your tent close to the workshop, patio or studio, you can use a drop cord to connect to electricity if needed.
We converted an old smokehouse into a beautiful bathhouse that features an indoor bathroom with shower that is handicapped accessible - as well as an outdoor shower that is private and a real treat to use. We have outdoor spigots with both unlimited hot and cold running water.
Our homestead features multiple gardens, pastures, barns, virgin forest, creek and river nearby. Say hello to our various flocks of chickens and our fat and happy rabbits! Lots of things to see and do here on the homestead including collecting your own eggs and organic fruit and produce in season, enjoying a golf cart ride over the farm and through the woodland trails provided by the host.
The host will give tours of the homestead and is happy to explain the many systems we have put into place to make our farm as self sufficient as possible. During various seasons, you can learn or participate in harvesting produce, preserving it and even a cooking lesson or two!
Explore the old barn or participate in some craft or art classes in the Art Studio if they are in session. Wander the pasture or check out the raised bed garden area and greenhouse. The food forest is growing well and there is a Rabbit Shed in the works. The chickens love to have visitors too.
Pets are allowed as long as they are kept on a leash at all times (the breed and size must be cleared with the farm owners) as we have livestock and semi free ranging chickens.
Our 10 acre farm is conveniently located about 15 miles off of Interstate 95, and easily accessible with a large driveway and gravel parking area.
Our home here in Halifax County is located directly in the middle of the Haliwa Saponi Indian nation and there is a magnificent PowWow within 2 miles of our homestead every year in April. Historic Halifax NC is a short 20 minute drive where the Halifax Resolves were written and there is a historic district that can be toured. The town of Littleton is 12 miles away and features some lovely shops, restaurants and a grocery store.
Medoc Mountain State Park is very close by where you can enjoy hiking, fishing and hunting for Big Foot. Beautiful large clean lakes (Roanoke Rapids Lake and Lake Gaston) are easily accessible for swimming, fishing and boating adventures within a 15 mile drive with boat ramps and a day use area with a beach.
