Peaceful, quiet and worth the stay!
Soooo quiet. Want a place to recharge? Here it is. If your into primitive, this is perfect. Bathroom and kitchen are a stones throw away. I forgot my coats and John gave some to use. I forgot my flashlight, he had one. He made me homemade, from scratch Apple Strudel! YUM!!!! So worth the staying here. Did I mention it was quite?….. Thx John!!!!
Amazing experience 10/10!
This is truly a hidden gem! My partner and I stayed here for labor day weekend, wanting to get away from the city for a bit. We didn't know what to expect and were pleasantly surprised by this place. The cabin is adorable and nestled right into the woods. John has hand built everything on his property and you can tell that there is a special touch on everything. Upon arrival, we were greeted by Goose, the best black lab EVER! John then took us on a tour of his property. This was very special and we really got to know the area from a local perspective. We went to the Rand Yacht Club and stumbled upon a concert in the mountains, which was a treat!
John and Moose were absolutely wonderful hosts and made us feel very welcomed. John has great tips, recommendations, and stories to share. If you are looking for a magical getaway hosted by great people, this is the place to go. We will definitely be back!
John's place is a lovely getaway where you can enjoy peace and quiet under the canopy of rustling aspens (I recommend bringing a hammock). John and his dog Goose are very welcoming and accommodating. My dogs had a blast running around the property, swimming in the lake and wrestling with their new best friend Goose.
The cabin is cozy and comfortable and it was great to be unplugged for a weekend. You will have as much privacy as you want, but John was around if needed (you might be lucky enough to get some homemade pie as well :) and I recommend stopping at the bar in Rand for a pickle shot!
We will definitely be back!
A slice of heaven!
My fiancé and I have stayed all over this state, and yet we could easily say that this is our favorite place!! Not only is the cabin in a little slice of heaven, snuggled right into an aspen grove at the edge of a lake and field of sage, but John was the most welcoming host we've had yet! He and his dog Goose kept us in great company. If you enjoy hiking, biking, off-roading, or horseback riding, incredible trails are just within an arms reach. I've lived under Montana's Big Sky most of my life, but nothing is quite like the stunning sunset on the ridge, or the full moon rising over Owl Mountain. In Montana we say that Montana is the "last best place on earth" but we'd say that John's Cabin in the Woods is the last best place you can experience on your own. I feel like we not only had a wonderful experience, but also made a wonderful friendship.
