Our stay at Walden Ranch was a unforgettable experience. We enjoyed our stay on the beautiful ranch. It is amazing what Alan has built over the years. Alan was kind enough to show us around and taught us a lot about all the animals on the property. He also provided tips for our next destination. I do not want to go in to much detail, you should definitely check this place out yourself!
I wish i had three more days. or si
This review is about Walden Ranch, but it’s really about me.
Health issues, pandemic claustrophobia - I needed to …. do nothing for a few days. Mission accomplished. Alan’s Grove at Walden Ranch embraced me and smoothed out a few jagged edges.
Walden Ranch boasts a wonderful host and crew (two legged, four legged and winged), a beautiful property and an easy vibe. Grills and fire pit available, but I took the slow lane and got some great chow from the deli at the local market. Then I settled into a chair and read fiction for a few days (broken up at opportune moments with voluntary participation in various ranch activities).
Will I go back? Uh ya. Soon. Do yourself a favor if you need one and spend some time on a working cattle ranch with a wonderful host and a special camping experience.
Country living at its finest
Alan was an incredible host with an unforgettable property.
We loved being close to all the action - cows, llama, peacocks, chickens, everyone! My kids are still peacock-calling months later.
I cannot recommend this property enough, provided that you're cool with farm life & sounds.
Hidden gem, one of a kind
This was one of the most magical weekend getaways of my life. Alan met us shortly after we arrived and we were absolutely taken with Alan's charm and the meticulous way he has brought this unique property to life with the pond, willow trees, grassy forest grove, animals. It was inspiring, to say the least, to see Alan's generosity, aesthetic touch, and care for the land and the animals reflected in the magic of Walden Ranch. We are thoroughly rejuvenated after just one night at the Grove.
The camping site was a 10 out of 10, right in front of the pond, surrounded by trees in partial or full shade, accompanied by peacocks, wildlife and farm animals. We really appreciated the huge open camping area where we could choose a spot to our liking. The spirit of the place seemed to invite us to find our joy and creativity, and to be responsible for discovering our own relationship with the land, allowing for an authentic sense of adventure and spontaneity. We had starlight above and lush, soft grass below. There were absolutely no bugs at night - the bugs seemed to be concentrated around the lanterns hung in the large tree by the bonfire area, a good distance from our campsite. There was perfect phone service - a plus. Only very occasional, quiet sounds of passing cars on the rural road at the far end of the very long driveway. It's very refreshing to find something of even higher quality and integrity than we could have expected, and Alan's place is the real deal. Thank you Alan, we really appreciate everything you do for us and all your guests.

I am reluctant to tell you all how wonderful Alan's Walden Ranch is - I want to keep the place a secret just for myself and my family. But here goes...
Just 30 minutes away from my home is Walden Ranch, hidden away in the ag town of Linden. Easy to get to, easy to find, yet a world away from, well, the rest of the world. Alan's Grove is shaded y a great variety of beautiful shade trees and carpeted with clover and soft grass. There are two - only two - camp sites here and that means you have plenty of your own space to pitch your tent and spread out. The ground is level and soft and there are picnic benches for you to lay out. your food and eat at. As far as the cop site is concerned, the place is perfect.
Being a working ranch, you must expect critters and you won't be disappointed. There's a massive old bull named Buster - he reminded me of the Disney cartoon bull, Ferdinand. He's friendly and would rather are in the grass than anything else. There are llamas, a hors, a pony, peacocks, chickens, roosters, a turkey, and dogs, too. Every critter we encountered was friendly and trustworthy around our 3-year boy.
Our host, Alan, is a retired high school English teacher. He is as kind and as helpful as they come! We enjoyed chatting with him and learning about his ranch and what it means to him to be able to share his beautiful space with his guests. I was honored to be asked by Alan to help him feed the cows - I drove the tractor while my partner and our son rode shotgun on the trailer while Alan tossed flakes of hay to about 50 cows and the llamas at sunset. Alan is truly a gracious man and we were so happy to meet him!
After two nights, we headed home. Once we got there, we wanted to go back to Walden Ranch - and we will. This is a vey special place overseen by a very special man.
See you soon, Alan!
