The Bird Line nests on spacious slice of open desert and features a shared open-air shelter - a nice shady respite in the desert, central to six reservable campsites. Sites are available to tent campers, self contained mobile units such as vans, vehicles with small trailers, and adventure vehicles (motorcycles too). The shelter (repurposed homestead cabin) offers a gathering spot for campers to cook and socialize together, and includes a shared kitchen sink with hot and cold washing water. The host has a bedroom and private bath in the shelter. For guests there is an outdoor bathroom - flush toilet (with optional bidet), fulled heated shower and sink. Care is being taken to disinfect shared surfaces.
Come enjoy the raw desert - the views are gorgeous. It is a quiet place, this Wonder Valley. Come think, write, and make art - star gaze, and sit around the campfire or hang out in the Hammock Hut. Hike nearby at Joshua Tree National Park (or Bureau of Land Management areas). Socialize and listen to live music at The Palms Restaurant, the local watering hole (when they reopen).
When booking, select the site that best suits your needs:
1) and 2) - best for vans and adventure rigs
3) - best for car and tent
4) and 5) best for vehicles with small trailers
6) park near the shelter and walk in to pitch tent

My friends and I had a great time at this site. Michael was very friendly and easy to contact for our last minute reservations. The accommodations were clean, well maintained, and nicely designed. Thank you for the wonderful fire pit and overall experience. We would definitely recommend and stay again!
We had a great stay here at the bird line! It was only my second time in the area as my boyfriend and I recently moved to california from Florida. We absolutely love Joshua tree and are in awe of the desert. The property was beautifully located in the raw desert with a view of the mountains. Michael was very welcoming and helped us get settled when we arrived after dark. I was very impressed with the cleanliness of the bathroom and shower/sink area. The fire pit was lit through the night and there were some other friendly campers on the property as well. We had a lovely time!
Micheal was a great host and greeted us as soon as we pulled up to the campsite. the amenities (toilet, sink, shower) were all very clean! although we only stayed one night, we had a great time here and would definitely come to stay again.
A great stay!
Micheal was a great host! He greeted us even if we arrive pretty late. Our Camper Van got stuck in the sand and he kindly help us to get it out. The bathrooms were very clean and the campground pretty private and isolate. We will definitely repeat! Thanks Micheal!
Perfect, socially-distanced, glamp!
Michael’s campsite was spectacular! Camping in the desert with running hot water, raging campfires every night, and great hiking and biking nearby? Yes, please! We’ll be back.
micheal is an architect, not just of structure, but of community and nature. he’s designed a such a unique gathering space in wonder valley to foster connection within and with each other. micheal was the consummate host. he had lots to share, from his story and ethos, his designs and art, to tips to forging your own trail in the sheephole valley wilderness. with his vision, he’s created something truly wonderful. be sure to gather around the nightly fire, bask in the desert dawn glow, and soak in the hot water outdoor shower.
We’ll be back!
We loved staying at The Bird Line! Everything was perfect and Micheal was super accommodating. We especially loved the outdoor shower and open air “throne.” The hammock hut was awesome too!
