Campsite #5 is in a wonderful secluded location surrounded by redwoods. It has a picnic table and a fire pit. It is far from the main house, bath house, and entrance, so choose this site for its isolation. Be aware that 4x4 or AWD is required to access this site.

- Get directions at the main house or follow the signs if no one is home.

- There is a simple latrine at each site. A full bath house with a flush toilet and hot shower is available next to the main house. A water spigot is attached to the main house.

- Spare camping supplies are available by the bath house if you forget something! Ask ahead if you need to borrow a specific item.

More about the property: I built my home high upon a southern ridge. Watching the river of coastal fog flow in and out below me is one of the most wonderful views to behold! I have 30 acres of land to explore and camp upon in the surrounding redwood forest.

10 miles east are Montgomery Woods redwood preserve with GIANT trees, and a little farther, perhaps a mile is the famous Orr Hot Springs Resort. If you drive a half hour west from my land you will be in the coastal Mendocino village.

We are marijuana friendly!!  Thus, we have created more of an adult oriented atmosphere.

one last note: We recently made separate listings for different sites. See campsite #1 for reviews.

Cool and isolated spot. Cosmo went out of his way to make sure that we were set up with a few missing items including mosquito repellent. Would recommend bringing a tarp and an extra table as campsite 5 has very fine dust which helped us keep things organized. Great location in relation to Mendocino. Also, the tuna is truly delicious!!! Wish we had tried it at camp to have brought more home with us. Thank you Cosmo!!!

Great spot! Secluded, 30 min into Mendocino on a beautiful drive. Good amenities, latrines and access to main house showers are nice to have (as our site was a solid walk to the bath house). This is kind of a perfect back woods camping setup, with the benefit of showers, a local exploration hike/walk, and interesting little tid bits of what makes mountain living so fun. And really good tuna!!

This is our first time staying at #5 and second time staying at Cosmo’s camp because we loved it so much. Campsite #5 is very secluded which was perfect for us. We brought our dog who loved having the freedom to roam around. Cosmo, as always, was so hospitable and made sure we had everything we needed including a propane fire ring since we couldn’t have a campfire. Will definitely come back!

beautiful!! peaceful, incredible views; we stayed at site 5. would recommend AT LEAST an awd vehicle for this site but our 4runner felt most comfortable in 4high or 4low. AWD will likely work for the other sites. highly suggest bug/tick spray for you and any furry companions. if you’re looking for a chill stay on a mountain in mendocino this is for you! cosmo is super helpful, his tuna is SO GOOD and the mountain is just gorgeous. 10/10 would absolutely stay again.

This was a sweet and secluded spot at Cosmo’s camp that was perfect for our one-night trip. We were bummed to see campfires are banned in the area, but Cosmo set us up with a propane fire pit that made for a great substitute. As others note, you’ll definitely want all-wheel drive to get to the site, and some decent clearance wouldn’t hurt — our Impreza made it just fine but it was a little nerve-wracking at points. We had enough room for three tents at the site, though that was a bit of a squeeze. And heads up that the toilet at the site is fully outside!

Cosmo is a great host! He checked on me once a day to make sure everything was OK. The smoked tuna he has for sale is mind-blowing. I bought a whole case!

Campsite #5 is small and secluded, perfect for a solo camper or a couple. More than two cars would be tight on space for parking. The site is in the trees, with some views across the valley. There were several different birds to enjoy, including some playful (and thieving) ravens. Keep an eye on your potato chip bags!

A few tips: Don't trust GPS. Mine worked perfectly on the first day and was half a mile off the next. Very inconsistent. Also, don't buy gas in Mendocino. It's $2.50/gallon cheaper in Fort Bragg. There's a nice 2-mile hike at Montgomery Woods State Natural Reserve about 10 miles East of Cosmo's Camp. Perfect for kids to explore the redwoods.

Looking into camp. Fire pit and picnic table are behind the tent.

We had a great time at Cosmo’s camp, site 5. Very secluded spot, didn’t hear or see anyone all weekend... except Cosmo who was so accommodating. Our group had forgotten a few things and he came to our rescue... and some more. A great guy and host!
A 4x4/AWD is recommended for site 5 and it being a rainy weekend, was definitely necessary but we had a lot of fun doing it!
If you get chance to try his Tuna, you should. It’s delicious!
Would definitely recommend staying at Cosmos Hip Camp! We look forward to booking again.

Awesome experience. Very remote and private. The land is really a treat with a lof of quirky enhancements (like motorcycles hanging from trees) that make it not only a exceptional camping experience, but something you will always remember. Cosmo met us as we entered and was very kind and engaging. We purchased the optional "living off the grid" tour and got an incredible overview of how he and many others have chosen a different lifestyle. And campsite #5 def required a AWD vehicle as he notes. Lastly, treat yourself to a can of his tuna - it's incredible. It's very smokey and tasty, a really unique treat. Thanks Cosmo, we will be back!
