Andrea’s property is gorgeous! There is a ton of space, unreal views, and access to an incredible region of CA. I can’t recommend this place more if you are looking to stay in the Mendocino area!
Great site, we did not have a 4x4 and made it ok up the dirt roads but that was during the dry summer month. Could be different if there is mud and rain.
Clean toilet with soap, toilet paper and mosquito spray.
We were in site #1 and I have no complaints. Sites #1 and #2 are close but not on top of each other. You can definitely see and hear each other. I will say #2 is bigger and has more open space. We were right in front of the outhouse and had a water spigot in our site, which was convenient. I was concerned about the drive (we don’t have 4WD) but it wasn’t as scary as others made it seem. We were in an SUV but saw that other people made it there in a sedan. You should be fine as long as it’s not wet/rainy and you take it slow. Overall it’s a beautiful site. We enjoyed ourselves and would recommend to others!
Beautiful rustic camping
This is a great spot for rustic camping with some nice amenities (fire pit with grill, toilet and running water). Bring your own chairs and tables. We stayed in site #3 which is the most private but also exposed and furthest from the restroom. We brought our own shade and had a delightful time. Andrea greeted us on our first day and gave us some extra charcoal as there is a fire ban in effect. Our dog was welcomed and we found Andrea to be super kind and helpful. I feel grateful that we were allowed to stay on their property. A word about the road. This is a no-joke, long dirt road drive. We had an AWD but our trailer hitch cargo carrier bottomed out quite a bit. Don’t try to drive up unprepared!
The location is nice, although the instruction of getting there could be more clear. Actually, google maps had no problems of getting us there.
Tons of insects in the forest, some yellow jackets traps might be handy. Not much to do around the camp if you do not want to drive all the way downhill to the river. The host communication was good.
Great summer fun
Our stay at Campsite #2 was such a sweet summer treat! The bathroom was super clean and TP was provided, the spring water was clutch, and Andrea was so incredibly helpful. Just a short drive down the hill you can get down to the Eel River, which was a blast to spend the day at. And the hike down to the meadow is steep, but worth it. Campsites are close together, but it was way better than camping in a state park next to a bunch of RVs. Thank you Andrea (and family)!!
We have stayed here several times and each time it has been great! The hosts keep the campsites so well maintained! They have added a third campsite since last year and all of them are prime camp spots! The yurt sites are incredible as well! Choose the red yurt if you want a spectacular view over the valley and trees and hills and the green yurt if you want more of a wooded area. There are small charcoal bbq’s on site to make dinner and running water as well! Shangri-la is also close to the river so we had a great river day on Saturday. Love this place and can’t wait to go back!
