Description

Sandy Flat Campground is a hop, skip, jump and throw away from the Kern River, making this a sweet spot to get your river party on and head back to camp for a relaxing rendezvous with Mother Nature. On the South Side, the Sequoia National Forest offers one-on-one time with the world’s largest trees; there are thirty groves on the lower slopes! Reach some serious natural highs with elevations from 1,000 to 12,000 feet. The natural leaps and declines in elevation create gorgeous rivers, hills and waterfalls. (We recommend you check out Salmon Creek and Grizzly Falls during your stay! Epic.)

Camped at Sandy Flats July 2018, campsites are very close together, not too many flats spots for tents, access to the river was not good, only two places and due to the campground being full it was very crowded at these two places, not much shade (tress), not easy to navigate for long trailers.

Had a great time camping at this site. Bit of a windy drive up, but it has beautiful views of the river along the way. There is easy access to the water and it's only a short drive to Kernville where you can enjoy their small town and delicious brewery. Not far from the Silver City Ghost Town as well, which hosts a fun / cheap / haunted tour.

If the more popular Hobo Campground nearby is full, check out Sandy Flat. The upper loop of campgrounds are fairly exposed, but the lower loop is tucked away under trees, and located right next to the Kern RIver.
