There's a road that leads to a flat pad where you can park your car, and a wind breaker fence.

it is perfect for sleeping in your car when you cannot find a spot in the park (Joshua Tree national park is very often full). The land is not far from the entrance (about 15 minutes drive)

You will need to bring your own little table and chairs + whatever else you wish to have there.

There is no bathroom or trash on the land. Please pack everything back out with you and discard once you reach a public trash.

You will enjoy over 2 acres of privacy, endless views, starry skies complete with sunrise and sunset :)

(The city allows us to camp on our private vacant land only 4 nights a month, and of course does not allow short term rentals. For that reason a suggested donation of $25 per night is all that we are asking from our hipcamp community to help keep the space maintained :)

Primitive paradise was perfect, private, secluded but also close to JT and coffee, food, gas, and supplies. I felt very safe and enjoyed my stay, the sunrise and sunset was beautiful! Roni was very quick to respond and very helpful with directions on the location! Would highly recommend!

We couldn't find a spot in Joshua Tree so we booked this spot. Amazing experience. The wind wall helped keep the sun off us in the morning. Great view of the stars without feeling too close to town.

Roni’s directions were clear, the site was easy to access, and exactly how it’s pictured. The next morning, we drove 20 minutes and were hiking within Joshua Tree National Park.

Full disclosure, I reserved this in a pinch when I couldn't secure a site within Joshua on recreation.gov, but I ended up finding the first-come-first-served (FCFS) sites within the park mostly available (late August at 4PM on a Friday). So, I actually didn't spend the night at Primitive Paradise. But, I did stop at PP before heading to the park and got the gist.

It's as advertised. It's a single dirt parking spot a few hundred feet off the main road with space to pitch a tent and a wind break. No other amenities. The pros are the absolute certainty of a place to stay and the proximity to services (food, gas, etc.). That's it. Given this, in my opinion, $25 is overpriced. But, it's an option.

For those in a similar situation, I would check with the ranger at the entrance for FCFS sites as they seem plentiful (if the right season), use the park's back country sites as a fall back (equipment and convenience not withstanding; they don't look like epic treks to the site), and then it's a toss up between PP and a Walmart parking lot. 🤷

Not super quiet, but not a big deal

Very basic, but that’s all we needed. Road noise all night from hwy 62, but not a big deal. Stayed on a Sunday. Music from a bar or night club on hwy 62 could be heard most of the evening, but again no big deal. Hospital with helicopter pad close by (maybe 1/2 mile west), watch helicopter land a few times during the evening. So overall not super quiet, but just needed a quick place to stay at the last minute. All good!

My wife and I loved our stay here! Tucked away and a very short drive from Joshua Tree National Park, it was the perfect place to stay for a night under the stars.

Convenient location. Feels remote but safe as you are still able to see the main highway off in the distance. Convenient location to Joshua Tree park entrances.

Great stay, absolutely nothing wrong with the site, stayed for multiple nights. There are other properties nearby you can hear, and I would love access to a bathroom nearby, but otherwise it was perfect.
