You will park at our permaculture farm and it is a short walk back into the woods. The woods may be shared with treehouse and tiny house guests, whose accommodations are a comfortable distance away.

You will enter the property and park at our farm. The greenhouses, garden beds, bees, chickens and orchards provide food for us and others in our permaculture group. The farmstead is the base for work-trade and educational opportunities centered on organic, biodynamic farming and permaculture. Because we have a rooster and so do our neighbors, you may hear crowing in the early hours.

We are located on two acres approximately six miles north of Crescent City, California, halfway between Portland, Oregon and San Francisco, California—a comfortable day's drive (350 miles) from each city. We are three miles from the old growth redwoods at Jedidiah Smith State Park, part of the Redwoods National Park jointly managed by the state and federal governments. The tallest coastal redwoods in the world are within 10 miles of us.

Two miles separate us from the ocean as the crow flies, about four miles by road. The nearest beach is Tolowa Dunes State Park where you are likely to see elk herds and porcupines. The beach is lightly used and on a weekday morning you can walk for miles north or south without seeing another person, though you are likely to see seals staring at you from the surf.

The town of Crescent City is six miles south. Here there is dining and entertainment, shopping, a museum, a beautiful crescent-shaped beach with surfing and tide pooling opportunities, the National Park Visitor center, a park with the nation's only beachfront disc golf course and more. The largest coastal lagoon south of Alaska is very close by with a hiking trail that starts less than a mile from the property.

A few miles north is the Smith River, the last un-dammed river in California. It's clear, turquoise waters can take your breath away at first sight. Upstream there is the Siskiyou wilderness and Six Rivers National Forest—no mining, agriculture or human development are allowed to disturb the landscape or water. The unique water color comes from the rare serpentine soil. The area also supports the rare, carnivorous pitcher plant (Darlingtonia Californica.)

We welcome you to our redwood grove!

I enjoyed my stay at the tent platform. It was a great basecamp for exploring Jedediah Smith section of Redwoods NP & SP. They have a nice clean composting toilet and a safe feeling gated parking area. Easy access to town and beach parks. I usually like to have my vehicle next to camp, but it wasn’t a big deal to carry my gear to the site. I’d guess it’s about 150 feet from parking to tent platform. Some reviews mentioned barking dogs, which I didn’t see until after I had booked. There was some loud barking between the dog on-site and her neighbor friends. They all quieted down shortly after dark, so it wasn’t a problem. Hosts were friendly and kept mostly to themselves. They gave me a map of the park and I got some good recommendations for activities from a friend who was visiting to drop off some pigs for their farm. Beautiful grounds with redwood forest and charming farm. Great place to stay. Treehouse and tiny house looked pretty nice as well. Thank you Hope & Dave!

Wonderful example of a redwood grove. Note the massive stump on the way in - it sets the tone to appreciate all the offspring that make up the grove.

Solid tent platform built in a redwoods grove - really beautiful spot! Simple structure that fit our three person tent comfortably. Set in the back of the property near a treehouse and a tiny house but felt pretty private. Lovely woods! Outhouse and dish sink provided as well as fresh water. House cats and puppy were very friendly as were the hosts although they mostly kept to themselves. Designated parking and easy access! Very nice stay overall!

The tent platform was perfect for us! We didn’t see anyone other than the owner during our stay, he kindly showed us to our spot. We accidentally left an item behind and the owner promptly called us so we could turn around to retrieve it, and we are so grateful! We really appreciated access to the composting toilet and sink to freshen up. The platform was just a short walk from our car and made set up/take down super simple! Overall, the property was beautiful and we will definitely be coming back here on our next trip up the coast!

The campsite was very nice, well-maintained, and easy to access. I rented the tent platform, which was fine, but if you want to anchor your tent be sure to bring something that you can use to tie your tent to the platform or otherwise stabilize it. The other two sites on the property weren't available when I booked, but the treehouse, in particular, looks like it would be a fun experience. When I arrived and set up my camp I was looking forward to a few glasses of wine followed by a lovely, restful night with nothing but the ocean and the music of the forest lulling me to sleep. Tragically, the barking, whining, howling dog that was staying at an adjacent site (or maybe lives on a neighboring property?) had a different kind of night in mind. He began his complaints at around midnight, just about a half hour after I crawled into my tent and tucked myself into my sleeping bag, and continued arguing his case until 4:15 in the morning. The infant that was clearly staying somewhere nearby, also unable to get much sleep, objected frequently and with zeal to the dog's many grievances. There are a few other reviews here that also mention a barking dog and if I had done my due diligence I would have seen that and might have chosen another campground.

It was wonderful to be nestled under the redwoods with gentle mist in the evening and early morning. The crowing and clucking of Hope's chickens, visits from the cats and the lovely gardens were special.
