The Catalina Express dropped us off in Float 3 in Avalon, and I couldn’t tell whether we were in Mykonos, Venice, or on the Amalfi Coastline. Then a staff member drove us about an hour (faster on the private boat they also offer!) inland through a natural preserve into a private island paradise nestled in between mountains with hundreds of acres of conserved land surrounding it.

There were a variety of accommodations at the camp. Me and two friends stayed in the glamping cabins (with electricity) and another friend stayed in a glamping tent (no electricity but they have similar beds). We all slept like rocks to the sound of the Pacific waves crashing onshore.

Def worth jumping off the camp’s private dock to take advantage of the camp’s snorkeling, SUPing, or private tours. Or just hanging out with the other guests and local expert boatman Captain Dan over a mezcal (which you should pack in advance, if that’s your thing! Also ask Dan about the local fauna! We saw a bison!)

The best cell service is by the showers and bathrooms. Be sure to remember your shower shoes and to stop and feed the camp’s turtle, a piece of lettuce, or two around dinner time. Check-in with a staff member before about what the food options are during your time there. There might be a possibility of a camp cook providing meals or you may be responsible for your own food. It’s always a good idea to bring lots of snacks though and any beverages you would like :) I’d recommend stocking up at the Vons in Avalon before you embark to the camp, because that’ll be the last place you’ll be able to buy things.

All the staff members were incredibly welcoming and helped us feel right at home as soon as we arrived. Definitely recommend coming here to truly immerse yourself in an escape from everyday life in a gorgeous Mediterranean environment.

Semi-pro tip: You can check-in bags for the day for $5/per bag at the lockers near where the ferry arrives if you plan on hanging out in Avalon.

Heading over to the cabins. They got some comfy lookin sweat shirts in the gift shop. Perused the gift shop.Riding over on the ferry!
