$27.50 per person per night, which works out to $55 for a couple (two people who are together). Kids 11 and under stay free. Morning Star Ranch is a working Thoroughbred horse farm nestled in the shadow of the majestic 7,000 foot Snow Mountain, located within the Mendocino National Forest boundary. Reconnect with nature while relaxing by ponds or appreciating the rugged beauty which surrounds you. The star gazing is amazing! Take a guided tour of the horse barn and small petting zoo for the kids, if interested ask to make arrangements. (Petting zoo and barn tour Monday through Saturday, 11:00 AM to 3:30 PM, and by special arrangement on Sunday). Your well behaved dogs are welcome here, although they must stay on a leash at all times. Camp fire wood is available for sale at the ranch when fires are allowed. Fishing in the ponds is temporarily suspended due to last summer's extremely dry weather and the damage it did to the fish and other pond dwellers.
For a larger, separate, group camping site for reunions, etc, please visit our 2nd camping area on Hip Camp at Morning Star Ranch Group Camp.
The Stonyford OHV area is just under 2 miles west of the ranch on Forest Road M10. Take a hike and practice your rock hounding in the nearby Stonyford Volcanic Complex, (in Mendocino National Forest boundaries) which is an ancient forearc seamount yielding some beautiful jasper rocks. Close proximity to the historic Eastpark Reservoir (closed in Winter) for all your water sports and swimming. Pet one of the ranch horses who have access to wander through camp. A friendly note to light sleepers, since this is a working horse farm, there may be horses whinnying to each other occasionally during the night, and often the bullfrogs around the pond can't resist singing a few songs after dark. Catch a small glimpse into ranch life. We also need to make mention that, like most of California, this is rattlesnake country so paying attention to where you put your hands and feet are important. Looking forward to meeting you soon! Drive safe!

Wonderful camping experience
The campsite is quite, serene, and away from civilization. Went to see the meteor showers over the weekend and it totally exceeded my expectations. The night sky was phenomenal - nothing like I’ve seen near the city! The sunsets and sun rises were beautiful. Also got a chance to see all the animals and pet their horses. Lucinda and Bruce are super cool and so kind. Overall amazing experience. highly recommend!
Beautiful, peaceful, and horseful
This place is the best kept secret in Northern California. Top notch stargazing and so peaceful. Couldn’t ask for better hosts, they helped us out when our camp stove conked out in the middle of dinner and gave generously of their time the next morning to introduce us to the horses. Not to mention local treats that made our stay even sweeter. I would come back anytime!!
Great site for a dark sky
We went looking for a site with dark skies for a telescope and Morning Star Ranch was great. We had access to great areas there were clear to the skies, yet our camp site had some great shade and felt a little cozier. Lucinda made us feel very welcome and couldn't have been more on the ball with questions leading up to our trip. We'll definitely be visiting again!
Hands down the best camping experience we’ve had as a family. The site and views of the rolling mountains were beautiful. Lucinda and Bruce were so welcoming and took so much time with us and the other visiting campers. We feel like we have found a real gem and can’t wait to go back!
My husband and I really enjoyed our weekend camping. Lucinda was a very welcoming host and we appreciated their hospitality! The short drive into Mendocino Forest was very convenient and we enjoyed beautiful views and lots of wildlife. It was fairly windy while on the ranch, so we made sure to upgrade our tent stakes so nothing blew away.
If you are looking for remote wide open spaces alone with nature, then it can’t get much better than this. The stars shine bright at night, the birds sing and the frogs share their happiness at night. Deer and turkeys roam the land that surrounds you.
Oh, the hosts were second to none! Amazing and hospitable, greeted with a warm welcome along with delicious bread and honey. Take a tour of their farm and meet many of the critters they have, especially their thoroughbred horses - such beautiful c
Camping under the stars!
The hosts were incredibly welcoming! On top of that, they were kind enough to give us a tour around their farm and see all their animals. We also got to sample some homemade banana bread and local honey!
The site itself was really well equipped with drinking water, clean toilets, an outside shower, flat land for the tents to go up, as well as camping chairs, a table, and a BBQ grill!
The night sky was truly awesome and the site was very peaceful.
Camping at the Morning Star Ranch was exactly what we hoped for! Quick weekend getaway and only a few hrs from the Bay Area. Lucinda and her Husband were incredible host. Welcomed us like family and even took time out of their Saturday chores to show us their ranch. Meeting the animals, hearing their stores and seeing their unique personalities make the trip that much better.
The campsite was perfect to escape the busy city life. Stargazing was the picture perfect. We were even fortunate to have one of the horses who roam the pasture come and visit out campsite. He was very curious and calm. If you bring bread, he will be your best friend!
Would highly recommend and looking forward to our next visit!
