Swings made the trip!
Beautiful site, fit time with hipcamp for us, so we were not sure what to expect, but it was a beautiful peaceful spot. The road nearby was a bit busier than we expected given that it is a private road, but that didn't deter from our stay. Mary was kind and patient with us, the swings entertained our kids for hours. If you are taking a camper, there is a dump station at Nevada Fairgrounds about 10 minutes up the road.
We stayed two nights with our 9 month old and 3 year old and it was perfect for us. Both kids loved the trampoline and swings. We liked walking to see the goats and horses. And Grass Valley is not far away for other activities.
Mary’s place was so tranquil and peaceful. She had everything just so it was perfect and clean. Even took a little dip in the creek! The night sky and milky way at night was amazing. The wildlife was a bonus, turkeys, deer and a sweet cat. We will be back!
Great stay at mary’s
Mary was a most gracious and accommodating host. We really enjoyed our stay here and felt like our privacy was respected and that the space and we were cared for. Mary was kind enough to make some gentle suggestions of what to do in the area and I’m glad we listened to her. We found beautiful swim spots along the Yuba river, cute little towns, and places to get goods along the way. The area gets very remote (outside of Mary’s property) and I often lost cell reception. It was nice to be provided with a detailed explanation of our surroundings and a map. She also was helpful in lending us items needed but forgotten (can opener! Doh!) and swim tubes and a pump that we floated around in on one of our meandering drives. Because of the smoke, she was even courteous enough to offer us an indoor space if we felt uncomfortable. The sound of the creek at night was lulling and wonderful. Mary is a natural host who I would recommend highly!
Our host went above and beyond, we had an incident on arrival with our trailer and Mary helped in every way she could. This was our second stay at this site and it was just as wonderful as the last. The rushing water from the creek was very relaxing.
Lovely creekside camping
We had a wonderful stay at Mary's camp. Our dogs thoroughly enjoyed all the smells of nature and local sites to explore. Unfortunately, the weekend we booked far in advance happened to be a heat wave. Mary's site had great shade and a nice breeze so sleeping was cool and enjoyable, but during the day it got very hot.
Pros: The site itself is beautiful. Directions are clear. Mary is communicative and an excellent host. The creek has a pleasant sound. Amenities include picnic tables, fire pit/grill to cook on, a net for games, and a portable potty. There are also a few swings. Mary is very kind and checked in with us during the heat to offer generous solutions for staying cool. Property is well maintained and clean.
Cons: Our dogs got a few ticks from going in and out of the creek. Comes with nature and the territory so not complaining but helpful to know. The potty is located very close to the best shade to set up tent. Great for convenience, not great for being in a heat wave. The site is essentially in the back yard and visible to Mary's home. If you are looking for complete privacy, this may not be the choice for you. That being said, Mary is very respectful and we still felt that we had privacy.
We would absolutely love to stay here again - when the weather is a little cooler.
Private, shady, flat camping spot
Mary was very accommodating and helpful. We enjoyed our stay. Penn Valley and Grass Valley are close by with things to do. Nice, shady, flat, quiet, private space with lots of room. We will definitely be going back.
