This was such a gorgeous, tranquil, and beautiful spot! I would love to return sometime for a longer stay. I fell asleep to the sound of crickets chirping and it felt like a magical getaway. Lisa was a friendly, welcoming and excellent host. I highly recommend staying at this Ancient Oak Grove!
Such a great experience staying here! Lisa is such a great host!
The location is so close to everything. Quiet and cozy!
If you enjoy camping this is the place to be at!
Will definitely come back soon!
Lisa is a kind and generous hostess. She had a wealth of knowledge on the local attractions. The property is ideally located. It’s a short drive to the 101 and close to Topanga Canyons laid back cafes and excellent restaurants. We’ll definitely return. Thanks Lisa!
Great stay in topanga
We had a great stay in Topanga. It was a little noisy in the morning with some barking dogs and a rooster but other than that great. Our host was great and bathrooms super clean.
Easy, relaxed, perfect for getaways
If you’re looking for a place to rest, relax, restore, and regenerate, then you’ve found your campsite at the Cross Bull Ranch. You’ll be greeted by your host Lisa along with Lilly the Shiba Inu and Robin the Rooster, and you’ll camp on beautiful land tucked into the Topanga mountainside.
The weather smiled on me during my trip. It was late July and there were a couple of light sprinklings of rain that cleared the air and kept the temperature between the mid-60s and the mid-80s the entire time. Still, I’m told it can get very cold at night, so pack accordingly.
The two campsites on the north side of the road are flat and easy and that’s where I pitched my tent. The southeastern-most site is the most secluded site, and it has a bit more terrain but isn’t too difficult. The fourth site, I was told, is typically used for RVs.
There is a hiking path behind the birdbath that will take you up the mountain. It is not for the faint of heart or the inexperienced. I stopped about 30 minutes up the trail when the hike became more of an upward crawl. Bring a machete and your best gear if you’re feeling adventurous, and you might reach the top.
Topanga Beach is an easy 15-20 minute drive south and is a great place to spend the day.
I also wanted to say a few words about the SOMATIC HEALING SESSION Lisa offers. Somatic healing is a technique that uses the structures and the energies of the body to access different ways of healing on a deep level. My session with Lisa began more like a conversation with stretching, and led very naturally into an outdoor cleansing ritual followed by an indoor table bodywork session. The entire session was tailored to me and to where I was and what I needed at the time. I went camping to reset and restore and the healing session helped me along in that intention. If you have any questions about the healing session, I encourage you to send a message to Lisa and let her know what you’re looking for and what your intentions are.
To clarify - yes, you will be camping on residential land in residential Topanga, and the land borders a couple other residential properties that are each tucked into their own nook and cranny of the topography. If you’re looking for a very secluded site with no one else for miles around, this is ~not~ your site. But if you’re looking for a beautiful setting that is easy to travel to and access, this is your place. As for me, I’m going to camping at other more distant sites later this year, and this site was the perfect place for me to get in some practice pitching my tent and using my gear.
