Nice little gem!
Great spot! Camp host came out to greet us shortly after we arrived! Spot was very clean! Had a picnic table, half enclosed fit pit, personal outhouse that was very clean as well!
We met the 2 goats that roam on the property (they’re friendly!) and enjoyed their company - as well as the abundant wildlife (quail, rabbits, chipmunks, just to name a few!) that came through/around the site several times a day!
The only downside is - as noted by other reviews - there is a rather large amount of yellow jackets!! So be prepared!
We are used to them so we would just set out a few slices of lunch meet around the site about 10-15 minutes before cooking - but be prepared they are there by about 8am & again towards evening time again!
We were told about the Eel River (which wasn’t too far!) and thoroughly enjoyed that as our trip included just about triple digit weather 😳 but the river cooled us down nicely (& it wasn’t crowded at all!)
Everyone was friendly and accommodating! We are definitely keeping this gem in our back pocket for future camping!
(We stayed at Nature Camp - there is a nice amount of shade - but it definitely moves with the sun! Lol)
Just leave your laptop at home...
Very much enjoyed our stay at Lightworks Ranch! FYI, this review is specifically for anyone who wants to try to call into work during your trip:
Our large group booked several campsites. While we set up our tents at Creekside 1 & 2 (highly recommended! I left a separate review for camping at those sites), I booked Nature Camp specifically for access to power and wi-fi so I could attend some unavoidable work meetings.
The outlets are great, but the wi-fi is still a little spotty and I needed to walk further into the host's property (which he said was fine) in order to get a sufficient signal to run a Zoom meeting. Even then, there wasn't really enough bandwidth to maintain stable video, so I ended up turning off both my video and the video feeds from participants. After that, the audio connection was stable and sufficient. All told, you could call in, but I'd say don't bother to try to attend work meetings while camping here, just enjoy the farm camp vibe and get back to work when you return home!
One more note: This campsite is the closest to the friendly goats, and the kids really enjoyed having access to them!
Nice spot off the beaten path
Nice spot off the beaten path with access to a small river a short walk away. Directions for the gate were slightly confusing but everything else was in good order. It's closer to the main house/barn area than the name lets on but there's a nice big wall built out of redwood slashes providing plenty of privacy.
Fun, goat greeting, good time!
Once again a great trip to Lightworks! We really enjoyed the campsite near the river last time but needed electricity for the heater at nite. This site was fine, good rock for my 4 yr old to climb but a lil too close to the house and a easy but still a walk to the river! Regardless is was a good time and Stephen is warm, friendly amd super cool! Also we were greated daily with 3 sweet goats! Another hit for the kiddo. I say if u want total privacy this site may not work for u BUT the electricity at this site is a must this time of year ;)
The other sites on Stephen's land is 👍
We had a blast at Lightworks Ranch. It was our first trip in our camper and with our newborn, Stephen was very kind and communicated well. We were able to purchase firewood that was there for us at the site when we arrived. The creek was a close 5 minute walk from the camp site and we walked there a few times each day for fresh air and to let our pups take a swim. It was a perfectly relaxing way to get out of the house and ring in the new year!
You’ll be pleased.
Nature camp was the perfect spot for us. Stephen responds quickly and was easy to work with (even when we had to cancel or first trip due to the fires.
The goat welcoming committee was a lot of fun, and it always nice when the pit toilet is on a new pit! Stephen stopped by about once a day to see if we needed anything, and made sure to put our firewood in a plastic container so it wouldn’t get wet. Everything was perfect for the two of us in our small camper.
This place was ok. Not a lot of "nature" here, was right next to a bunch of other vehicles and shacks. Host did not wear a mask when he greeted us. Ground was flat and there appeared to be water and electric (we didn't use either).
