When you come to the ranch it feels like you are hundreds of miles away from civilization and it's real quiet. This is a great place for someone who wants to escape city life and enjoy the tranquility of nature. Much of the ranch is open wilderness for you to explore, and it's not uncommon to see deer, frogs, turtles, quail, turkeys, or the other countless species of birds. Diamond Gulch Camp is the perfect place to relax if you’re a photographer, artist, family or a group of friends looking for a place to camp near Yosemite.
A small portion of the property was used as a gold mine years ago, and you may find remnants of old home sites if you go exploring. We're not far from Wards Ferry Road, Groveland, Lake Don Pedro and other interesting places.

Friendly host, clean and open!
Great first experience using HipCamp. Recommend going during daylight but found the place from directions in the dark. Once there it’s a large open spot with solar lights scattered around to guide the way. I had the whole place to myself and my pup. Clean portapotty and access to potable water. Met John on the way out and had a great yarn about all sorts. Super friendly host and would definitely stay again!
Great dog-friendly spot
John was a great host, and the spot was perfect for our van (and our dog). We stayed here planning on driving into Yosemite every day, so we didn't explore the immediate area. It took us an hour and twenty minutes to drive to Curry Village.
Having the cows nearby was a fun perk!
This place is so awesome that I almost
Don’t want to give it a review because I want this place to stay a secrete. John is awesome, he and molly(the dog)greeted us when we got there and gave a run down of the property and the ok to hike around. He saw us on our hike and picked us up in his utv and gave us an hour long (or more) tour of his amazing property. My family and I hope to come back here often even if it’s for a night to just hang with the cows. Thanks John!
A lovely simple spot to stay
This is a very simple but lovely spot in the very charming town of Groveland. John was a lovely host and came to greet us when we arrived. The town is very charming and a good spot to stay if you can’t find a camping spot in the park. We also took the YARTS bus into Yosemite one day; it picks you up right in town and as long as you get a spot on the bus you’re guaranteed entry into the park (no park reservation is necessary).
Wildlife, friendly cows, great host
John is a wonderful host with a beautiful piece of land! Our stay was peaceful and we enjoyed the history his property had to offer. With ample wildlife and stars at night we throughly enjoyed our stay and highly recommend for all travelers in the area. Comparatively to other campsites, he and his property are above all else. Thank you John!
Cold running water (wonderful for rinsing off after a sweaty day in Yosemite), clean port-a-potty, nice trees to hang string lights, sunset views, and about 5 mins from town with lots of food options. John was a great host!
Magical ranch camping experience
My boyfriend and I camped at the ranch for 3 nights and it MAGICAL! Its a huge 800 acre, gorgeous property which you can walk around and explore. The owner, John, was so kind and welcoming. He took us on a Polaris tour and explained all the rich history of the land. It’s super quite and the sunsets are unbeatable. Plus there’s lots of cute cows and puppies around. It’s about 30 minutes from the Yosmite Big Oak Flat entrance and we drove in every day. The campsite also has a very clean porta potty and is a less than 5 minutes drive from Main st Groveland with a grocery store, gas, and lots of really good restaurant options for a small town. Our favorite was Cocina Michoacán’s - a hole in the wall authentic Mexican spot. Overall this was an excellent experience and could not recommend more! We will be back.
