It's Located a few miles from the Carrizo Plain National Monument and Soda Lake it is one of the best-kept secrets in California. Only a few hours from Los Angeles and San Luis Obispo the Heritage Campsite offers visitors a rare chance to be alone with nature. Some visitors say you can "hear the silence." The night sky is amazingly clear and beautiful. You will see the beautiful mountains on all sides along with a quiet valley scene. Its like going back in time during the pioneering days or the native american passage travels. During the spring bloom days lush valley flowers of Blue, Green, Purple and Yellow blanket the mountains.

We are on a trip cross country and where looking for a cool cheap place to stay. We have stayed in hotels, camp grounds, and at rest stops camping in the truck. This camp site was private, beautiful, and so peaceful. It is what we needed to stretch our legs and get back to nature as sleeping in a truck isn’t very rest conducive. I was intimidated by the directions but we found the site even in the dark and set up camp with the moonlight couldn’t have asked for more!

Good: Lot of stars. Beautiful open field. Private.

Bad: Windy. Lot of dust. Certain views looked little bad because abandoned projects or residences.

Heritage camp was a great, remote spot. There really isn't anything but a table, fire pit and 360-degree views. This spot will be ideal during wildflower season! Otherwise, it's a nice, private, place to camp for the night in the middle of the Carrizo Plains!

We stayed at Heritage near Carrizo Plains National Monument as our first night in a rented RV and also our first time boondocking. We could have boondocked nearby, but it was easier to go with a known location on private property well off any public road. This really paid off on this first-ever RV day. Everything took longer than expected and we pulled in 30 minutes after sunset. It was great having really clear directions and GPS coordinates--one less thing to worry about! This is not a "Dark Sky" park, but the skies were plenty clear for me to take a few star photos. I would have missed the Milky Way if the coyotes had not awakened us at 3:30am. It was cool taking photos of our RV, the Milky Way and our Great Pyrenees, Bear, as he looked for the howling coyotes. The location is fairly flat, quite private and has a picnic table. Tent camping would have been fine at this location also.

Coyotes awakened us at 3:30 am, just the right time for me to capture the Milky Way over our RV. Bear is looking for the critters.

We only stayed for a night because it wasn’t available otherwise. It was very beautiful and we would love to go back.

Heritage Camp was a lovely place to camp if you want to get away from crowded campsites and get some peace and serenity. It was a beautiful drive over looking the Plains and we didn’t see any people for miles, so we had complete and total privacy at this site. The views of the hills surrounding the valley was beautiful and the sunset over the mountains was gorgeous. Sweet little picnic table and campfire ring, all you need!
