A map/ clearer instructions would have helped navigate smoothly to the dome at night on arrival. Nevertheless, host was responsive to the phone call and text.
solar powered lamps, string lights, pathway lights. (I think) they last for sufficient but limited time in the night, so use wisely.
Bed is relatively smaller in breadth for two people. We kept hitting each other frequently. Second night we were tired, so slept well.
Coffee, vessel, pan dishwasher, hand wash, cleaning brush, paper towel roll. Stove with ignition and gas all for the dome.
Wind: no breeze or wind. It helps retain the temperature.
Night sky: it's a valley. Limited visibility to the sky due to tall trees. could see full moon and few stars as it was partially cloudy.
Sounds: owl at night, woodpecker, pigeon, sparrows in the morning. Soothing sound of flowing water in the background.
Waterfall: hike to the waterfall appeared never ending. But it's just a right amount of adventure and exploration. Keep following white/yellow marks. And yes, waterfall was all ours.
2 portable pit toilets. At a minute walk from the dome. It's maintained clean.
Hot water was quick. Felt safe and secured taking shower.
Great. Made a mistake of putting in one more log which significantly increased the water temp.
2 fire extinguishers on property + bear horn in dome
We spent a magical NYE camping on Harmony’s land.
There are only four campsites on the property, which are situated around a communal space. The Hermit Dome where we stayed was the most secluded and felt completely private. The Yurt was also fairly secluded; it was visible from the communal area, but down a long path providing it with plenty of privacy.
Our site was charming and well equipped with a new stove, fire pit and running water. The dome is up a hill and you wake up to the sounds of the river below.
The wood burning hot tub was fully worth the extra cost. Reserving it meant we had access to it all night and we enjoyed it for hours. With no lights on, you could see the stars and hear owls hooting from the tub!
There was also a beautiful private hike we took advantage of on the property.
Although the communal area, which included an outdoor kitchen-like structure, was less well maintained when we visited, I can imagine having a lot of fun renting the entire site out with a group of friends.
On to the property: it had been unusually raining when we camped here. The steep road down was muddy, but we were able to get down in a 4x4. It was a little dodgy after a big rain, but not bad after it had dried out. The other couple that was there had a Prius and wasn’t able to make the drive down when it was muddy. When dry, it would have been tricky (it’s a steep windy dirt road), but doable. You park in a lot and then pull your things down in a wagon.
Such a cute space ! Had everything we needed (coffee press , pots and pans , etc) kitchen was set up next to the camp. The waterfall hike was clearly marked. Dogs had a great time .
For those concerned with the drive , I have a Prius and was fine. Drive slow on the way down to avoid any uneven surface, and press the gas on the way up so you can get over the hills. Might need a fwd if it rains but when we went it was dry and made it down and up without a problem.
Unwind, relax and rejoice
The location is Calm and Serene in deep woods not so far away from LA ( less than 2 hr drive). The sounds from creek burbles, chirping birds are so soothing , relaxing and makes you feel very close to Mother Nature. The path leading to the site from San Marcos is a downhill, unpaved and rugged. We made it through with a sedan , downhill was not an issue but uphill was a bit of challenge. I would recommend a SUV. Parking area has some carts to help with the luggage. The portable toilets are at the entrance, it was well maintained.
The property has 4 sites . 1. Creekside tent - Closest to parking, restroom and creek access. Fully furnished tent, cooking area including propane stove ,hammock , cleaning station , open hot shower.
2. Yurt, the spacious of all - Cooking & cleaning station, hammock, open hot shower tub, propane stove.
3. Tipi, as of now it's standalone and Harmony has plans for future developments.
4. Dome - Located in a secluded spot. The path leading to this spot is slightly uphill. The dome is fully furnished, with open hot shower , hammock and cleaning station( No stove) and farthest from restrooms.
There is a large community entertainment area in the center, with cooking and cleaning station, wood fire hot tub, a stage , plenty of camping chairs and tables. Perfect for large groups to hangout.
There are trails for creek access and waterfalls. Please bring water shoes , as you might have to cross the creek a few times to reach the waterfall.
I definitely cannot miss talking about the host Harmony , she is a very talented, friendly and helpful person. She has thought through a lot of minute details in the planning and design of every site in order to provide a comfortable stay for the guests. A very big applause to the wood work through out the camping area coming from her Dad's workshop.
I would definitely visit this place again and would recommend my friends.
