A note to all our campers in 2021:  Covid-19 has been a scary and difficult time, and we are so excited to see you back with us. Please know that, while we love having company, our essential mission as a producer of safe and healthy food to our community during this time of COVID-19 is of paramount importance to us.  If you choose to camp and we observe that you or others in your party are not observing our safety rules about off-limits spaces, social distancing, hand-washing or mask wearing, we reserve the right to ask you to leave without a prior warning, and no refund will be issued.  You must commit to do your part to keep yourselves, our family and our community safe in order for us to honor your reservation.  Thank you for your understanding.  We look forward to many happier years ahead with communal kitchen dinners, campfire rings, and songs shared under the moon after this time of turmoil is past.  Be safe.

SAFETY IS OF PARAMOUNT IMPORTANCE TO FORTUNATE FARM!

Because of this, we are taking the following COVID-19 Related Precautions:

1.  We will follow all County and State regulations regarding public safety, including any ban on short-term rentals (these include camping).  If your reservation falls within a period of County or State-mandated closure, we will issue you a cancellation or reschedule with no fees, up to the last minute.

2.  Depending on the local health situation or the situation right on the farm, we reserve the right to take more stringent steps than County or State regulations require, including closing our sites or requesting that you cancel your reservation, if necessary.  If we make this decision please understand that it will be for everyone's safety,  including yours, according to our best judgement.  If this happens we will give you as much notice as we possibly can.  We don't want you to be disappointed, but we also want you to be well!

3.  Due to extreme fire danger we do not allow any open flame at the camp sites except for small cannister camp stoves on a stable surface, up out of the grass.  Due to COVID-19, our shared kitchen in the barn requires masks worn at all times.  We will have the camp refrigerator available and hot water, soap and disinfectant will be supplied so you can clean up any time, including before you cook.  It is not possible for us to clean up between every use of the kitchen, so please be thoughtful of other campers and clean well after your turn to use.  It's fine to eat at your campsite or in our hang out zone behind the barn.  We recommend storing extra food well (in your vehicle or in the fridge at the barn) and cleaning up leftovers  to discourage unwelcome, hungry critters who might smell a lovely snack and try to visit you!

4.  We require masks for all (including children) every time you might be inside a structure (porta potties, too!) or when you might encounter farm personnel or other campers.  Please bring masks with you.

5.  Please follow all other posted directions, especially signs that indicate "staff only."  For our staff's protection, please do not walk up on them, enter their personal space, or touch tools, vehicles, or tractors and implements.  We are all happy to chat with you and answer questions about the farm - from a safe distance.

6.  We are happy to hear comments or concerns you might have.  We want to be around to enjoy the farm with you for many years to come, and we appreciate your understanding and respect for these requests during this time of extreme uncertainty.

THANK YOU!

>>> Fortunate Farm is an inter-generational family farm that grows heirloom vegetables and flowers in the small town of Caspar in Mendocino County. We farm with sincere care for the land and are committed to improving and protecting its beautiful, rock-free sandy loam soil. The farm’s 40 acres are made up of pastures, forest, and a large spring-fed irrigation pond (the pond is not accessible to the campground). We are proud to continue the history of organic agriculture on this land. Our mission is to feed people locally, sequester carbon and empower our community.   We celebrate LGBTQIA people and believe Black Lives Matter. ALL are welcome here.

When campers choose Fortunate Farm for their next outdoor adventure they will have the opportunity to experience our farm first hand. We offer 8 camping zones, each with varying levels of privacy, and all within short walking distance of our communal barn and portable sanitary potty. Each zone can accommodate several small tents or a few larger sized tents. Our beautiful redwood barn is open to campers for cooking, access to potable water, or just to hang out in the shade and observe the authentic farm life in action.  We are taking special precautions now due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

My friends and I stayed at Fortunate Farms this weekend and had a wonderful time. The host U`i took amazing care of us. We booked last minute but that was not a problem. She got back to us right away and confirmed our reservation. Then we needed to change the reservation from 2 people to 4 people - also not a problem for U`i. She was so easy about it and accommodating. The farm is beautiful and quiet and you can hear the ocean in the background. It's amazing. The campsites are a bit close to each other with little inbetween to block you from seeing the other campers, but we all seemed to be able to space out in a way that made it all good.

We did not really grasp this from the description (either that or we did not read the description) but there's a barn with a full community kitchen where you can prepare food. If we had known this we would have played our meal planning much differently. We brought camp food and cooked our own food at our campsite, but later on went to the barn to see what it was all about and there was a group of people cooking and eating and there was a stove and there were cups and dishes and electricity and everything you needed to prepare food (maybe not everything but enough it seemed) and clean up after yourselves there in the barn. It was cool. We ended up hanging out with the folks who were there and then U`i came down to say hello and played the ukulele for us. It was a fun night filled with warmth and laughter. Great folks all around.

Lastly, we had forgotten coffee so U`i set us up with coffee for the morning - ground the beans and labeled it with our campsite number so it would be there for us in the morning. They even had a french press! It was so greatly appreciated.

All in all we had a wonderful time. I am not sure if this is the right spot for people who want to be alone or "away from other people", but if you are (somewhat) social and don't mind having other people nearby, this is a fantastic spot. It is easy to get to, friendly and accommodating.

Thank you so much U`i for a beautiful, fun filled night. We look forward to seeing you again soon.

Fortunate farm was great! We rolled in late (after dusk) but the directions were super clear and the check-in process was contactless, quick, and easy. Bathroom facilities were spotless!

A really pleasant camping spot located on a farm, right off the one. About 7 minutes from the town of Mendocino. The camp sights are nicely spaced and separated by rows of flowers— quite pleasant. There’s also a little barn with a selection of produce if you want to grab veggies for cooking!

We very much enjoyed our stay at Fortunate Farm. The rustic, flower laced grounds are beautiful and the hosts friendly and kind. The coastal location is ideal for Mendocino/Ft. Bragg activities. Staying on a working farm that sells fresh flowers and produce was a huge bonus. We look forward to returning soon.

Really fun to stay at Fortunate Farm. We had Site 7 which was back in the trees and more private. The site was spacious and nice. The only issue we had was a sunk coming around at night in the site! We had no issues but it certainly scared us into our trailer pretty quickly.

The sites were mostly full while we were there, but there is plenty of space. There was an event on the farm, and people coming and going from the farm stand. This isnt a place you camp for a totally private experience. If you are looking for a fun, community-oriented spot check out Fortunate Farm.

Fortunate Farms was a great stay! The location has a farm on site so you can pick up fresh produce to enjoy. The location is amazing because it’s so close to many great spots, like the beach. I didn’t checkout the entire campsite but there appeared to be room for camper vans with shade. Definitely ask ahead if your spot comes with shade so you can plan!

Lovely farm to stay on but too expensive for what you get. The wild flowers are a beautiful touch.
